The National does some amazing stuff! I haven't heard a song of theirs that isn't super creative and beautiful and like listening to a story. Lovelovelove.
I saw them live once, in Portugal, and I was sooo desapointed... I left earlier, cried all night and now I don't have the guts to go to another concert. Why didn't matt sing as well as he does everywhere?
@JohnnyCagePro Ya estamos con ofendiendoa las personas. Y que tal escribir algo simpático como "a lo mejor solo ha sido esa noche, te animo a que veas otro concierto, seguro que te va a gustar"... pff.
@squishtish Just as every great restaurant has a hiccup here and there, so does every great band. It was probably a sound issue, which is out of their control, and very common with live shows. I saw them a few years ago and it was top 5 shows of all time for me, and I see about 100 shows a year. literally. your first problem was leaving early. shoulda just smoked a joint. But leaving early, poor choice. Don't cry, get your shit together and see'em again when they roll into your town.
Seriously, I love the National but this live just takes the fucking cake. You can hear and see all the subtleties of their music, it;s absolutely breathtaking.
a few years ago we had the privilege to organized their concert in our club. Live and as a people are so friendly and special: D aaaa I can not wait to hear them again live.

@theeaglelord I think they were great! It was a seated venue, which definately made it hard for TN. But when Matt - kindly - asked everybody to stand up and walk up to the stage, the gig went into a completly different level! :D
Really looking forward to Roskilde Festival; a place they fit way better! :)
As someone in my late 20s, what I love about The National is that they make music for people in the twilight of their youth. It is not about the age of the performers, there are lot's of middle-aged men writing music for teenagers as well as performers who don't write lyrical content that is specifically aimed any any particular age range, but The National is the soundtrack to the quarter life crisis (even it is really is 1/3), the soundtrack to fleeting youth, all the beauty and the pain...
Very nicely put, I'm glad someone else picked up on that. If all of us late 20 somethings are going to have our quarter life crisis, then at least we can have a good soundtrack to it :-)
The National are a great example, much like Leonard Cohen, Guided By Voices, etc...where it's almost better to make your push for music fame around age 30 or so instead of age 20, because it saves you a lot of mediocre immature embarassing songs/interviews/etc that you'd prefer not to haunt you forever on Youtube. If you spend your 20's going from fair to great, and make your push around 30, the world will only remember you as great.
It's been a long time since piece of music has brought tears to my eyes for it's beaty and brilliance! I have just heard them for the first time today, and damn! Am I sorry! My CDs are increasing tomorrow! They say what is in my heart for many years. thanks National! And thanks for posting!

This a great song, just got High Violet a couple weeks ago & its fantastic! You're all in for a treat on Tuesday. this song is great on the album, sounds nearly identical to this version (I kinda miss those big cymbal crashes on the album version, though). "Sorrow" & "Lemonworld" are my two early favorites so far. Btw, if you pre-order on iTunes, you get 2 bonus tracks! I did it, even though I already got the album, that's how much I love this band!

I hope their new album is a bit like boxer.
I really hope they have some stuff similar to Daughters of the Soho Riots and About Today. .... Oh, and cant forget "Son"

@soccercrazy309 Alligator. Their most accessible album and still my favourite alongside Boxer. Try 'Secret Meeting', 'All The Wine' and 'The Geese Of Beverly Road'.
