This whole "Bush kept us safe" idea has been repeated so many times and people who say it seem to think that if you hold that opinion strong enough that it becomes a fact.
If people want to give Bush credit for keeping us safe after 9/11, they should also give some blame for when he didn't.
It's true that he'd only been in office for a short time before that but the job and responsibility begins from the beginning, especially if you brag about how much you prioritized it after a failure. Conversely, a president works with and through career employers, including those initially appointed by others, and so doesn't deserve absolute blame or credit for any result.

Clinton handed Bush a plan to deal with Al Qaida. Bush never enacted it or any other preventative actions. All of the planning of it happened on Clinton's watch. We invaded Iraq because they were in violation of the cease-fire agreement from the first war. Saddam was trying to get WMDs. By invading Iraq, we forced the terrorists to confront our military in a Muslim country.
Which had nothing to do with capturing the terrorists responsible for 9/11, which was Bush's original reasoning to the people for invading Iraq. Also, IIRC, the real reason we invaded Iraq was because we thought they were in possession of WMD's, correct? They weren't, so we had to change our story again. You are operating under the false assumption that was only one reason for our invasion of Iraq. There were always several reasons. Fighting terrorism is not just about getting those individuals involved in 911. It is about killing as many of them as possible before they kill more Americans. We did not know what Saddam had or did not have because he was not complying with the cease-fire agreement. Now we know, for sure.
We entered into Iraq to accomplish all of those things under a lie. We were told that our troops were being sent to Iraq to find the people who did this to us. Not to fight the entire wave of terrorism. Not for any of the reasons you listed, and we shouldn't have been. Just because we found other things to do while we were over there doesn't justify the failure in our original intentions. It only justifies the distrust that America had in George Bush during those times.

And your assumption that, but for Bush's techniques, we would have had more attacks, is just that, an assumption. I can just as easily assume we would have thwarted the purported attacks with proper techniques, or that, but for Bush's invastion of Iraq, they never would have been planned in the first place.
Liberals are still in denial. They refuse to face the facts when revealed by their own President. Lives were saved by the use of the techniques.
As for President Bush preventing 9/11 in the first place. I want someone to tell me what would you have him to have done? Even after the actual attacks, you liberal attacked him daily for being too harsh in terms of security. What would you have support prior to 9/11?
What would I have had him do before 9/11? How about READ THE INTELLIGENCE REPROTS and then ACT ON THEM. He could have devoted resources to investigating in advance, and possibly have thwarted the attack.
As far as these techniques having saved lives, we will never know if the information obtained could have been obtained without torture.
And saving lives does not justify torture. Lots of things could be done to save lives; things we don't do because the ends don't always justify the means.

If people want to give Bush credit for keeping us safe after 9/11, they should also give some blame for when he didn't.
It's true that he'd only been in office for a short time before that but the job and responsibility begins from the beginning, especially if you brag about how much you prioritized it after a failure. Conversely, a president works with and through career employers, including those initially appointed by others, and so doesn't deserve absolute blame or credit for any result.

Ok I'm a slow typer so I'm not going to start at the beginning. I think things are cause and effect and libral causes allways bring a negative effect. For example, right now they're trying to get Bush thrown in jail for torture. Sounds like a noble thing to do. But if succesful will send the message to our enemies that if caught they will get room and board for their trouble. That will not help keep us safe! I just wish that libralcons were the only ones who had to sufer for all their ideas.

The Brits, French, Germans, Saudis, Egyptians and Israelis (to just name a few) were screaming that an attack was IMMINENT!! 9/11 was a huge fuck up and what followed was worst (every credible academic and analyst will tell u so)...

And your assumption that, but for Bush's techniques, we would have had more attacks, is just that, an assumption. I can just as easily assume we would have thwarted the purported attacks with proper techniques, or that, but for Bush's invastion of Iraq, they never would have been planned in the first place.

What would I have had him do before 9/11? How about READ THE INTELLIGENCE REPROTS and then ACT ON THEM. He could have devoted resources to investigating in advance, and possibly have thwarted the attack.
As far as these techniques having saved lives, we will never know if the information obtained could have been obtained without torture.
And saving lives does not justify torture. Lots of things could be done to save lives; things we don't do because the ends don't always justify the means.
