If you do get the book, I recommend reading it along with the audio verison because there is a lot of French in the book; so unless you can pronounce French, it's helpful, and also adds much more emotion to experiencing the book.

I know it sucks because this is a sick story and Humbert is a pedophile. But Jeremy Irons is hot and because its in his POV we dont see it that way as much. In the book he uses persuasive speech and downplays what he does in order to win over the audience or "jury" as he puts it. But he knows hes wrong and thats why he's so paranoid. And obviously Lolita is gonna act out because her innocence is stolen from this older predator. He is using her sexually when shes only 12.

This BOOK and movie are about the deep, inbedded perversion within, that one can not seem to control. IN THE BOOK Humbert starts his infatuation back when HE himself is only about 15.and falls inlove with a "nymphet"..whom Lolita reminds him of *obviously later in life*. He is OBSESSED with her, INFATUATED...and yet adores her or the IDEA OF HER. Once she is grown he will no longer yearn for her the way he does now, as she is...as an untouched, yet temptress of 15. Its all about the forbidden

It's my 2nd time watching this movie. I think, now that I've seen the whole thing and am looking at it from another perspective, that Lo sensed from the beginning that he was infatuated with her and she was just testing his boundaries to see what his motives were. Which is why she switched back and forth from being a child to a temptress with him. -Knowing what he sees in her, but wishing she could be a kid. Wanting his approval and wanting to be herself. Wanting a dad and testing her sexuality.
