Personally, I fell asleep during Star Trek, and don't remember anything. That also happened with the new Sherlock Holmes. Movie theaters put me to sleep. I also fell asleep to Alien, which is weird, because "scary" movies usually keep me from being able to sleep. I like Alien though, and I own it. I fall asleep to movies when the rooms are dark. I don't know why. I usually fall asleep to some Arrested Development or Futurama.
Just so you know, I'm just trying to have conversation, not trying to enter into a hostile debate. I will respect your opinion, I'm just asking you what your problem is with the film. Just wanted to explain away any percieved hostility from my earlier comment.
I loved Star Trek, and I liked the new Kirk...and obviously he and Spock were friends by the end of the film...so how what does it matter that they were at odds through most of the film?
Also, it makes sense to me the way they played up his "jerk"ness. They even blasted him off the ship and left him there...he GROWS as a character, he's not instantly likeable, but so what? I can think of MANY protagonists that fit that description.
Minority Report is a mediocre, flawed film, but CM is clearly over the top in its criticism.
As for Star Trek, it too is a deeply flawed film, but entertaining on a very basic level. There's nothing wrong with that IMO, weak films can still be fun (although it helps to switch your brain off while watching them), but I like to think Star Trek should aim for a higher level of entertainment than that. It may be cliche to say, but I really do think Gene is rolling in his grave over this one.
CUZ! In all seriousness, IMO he did a good job of paying homage while not trying 2 pull off a bad impression of Shatner. I also personally liked the way he handled the decisions made about his character in the story; the angry arrogant genius approach appealed 2 me especially since it was balanced by the intentional lack of him winning any of the fights he was in (the opposite of original Kirk who NEVER lost a fight) - the only way he wins any fight is by leaping & cheating; Spock's opposite
Kirk wasn't a jerk in STXI. He was cocky and arrogant in many ways, yes, but only because he was correct about everything. He cockiness was deserved, as was his captaincy.
I found your Matthew/Anakin impression funny. A good send up of CM's review style.
And no, I didn't take offense to anything you said. You don't become as hardcore a Trekkie as me without learning that not everyone shares the same opinion of what is "good Trek" (if they even like Trek at all, that is).
Your comments on new Kirk are AWESOME.

Yeah, I agree with your MR points, I felt Farrell's character was good, his ending was abrupt but I was sad that he died.
I'm going to say it- I LOVE ST:XI. Hee. I think Pine's Kirk is decent, he had that destructive, impulsive thing going on.
But HA! at your Anakin joke. God, how I hate him. ''YOU UNDER-ESTIMATE MY POWER!'' Just STFU and become Vader already, Ani.

I laughed out loud, man. I laughed out loud.
Wasn't expecting the ST twist. :)

As you have given consent, I would be happy to respond to some of this at some point. Thank you for the response.

I didn't think so. Personally, I found the new Kirk thoroughly unlikeable, but that's just my view.
On that note, I hope you weren't offended by this video. If so, then I'm sorry.
On another note, what did you think of my Confused Matthew/Anakin Skywalker impression?
(By the way, I was not the one who marked your comment down. I respect your opinion on all things Trek.)
