Hi vinxbass love your style. I have recently been getting into bass myself after about 30 odd years of playing the 6 string and and having a ball jamming with local muso's here in OZ. Anyway I was thinking of purchasing the same bass as I dont have a fretless , are these good quality Chinese instruments and do you think I will get similar sound to yourself with the stock standard PUPs?
Cool thanks! I was thinking of putting those in my Vintage Modified fretless. All of my other basses have active pickups, so going to passives was a bit of a change.
You have a good Jaco Pastorius tone. I guess it doesn't matter what kind of bass you have it only matters if you have good technique and good pickups.
When I play live with the Squier, I don't use the Jaco tone at all. I roll back the bridge pup and leave the neck pup full up, with the tone full up too. The music my bands play do really leave any room for me to use the Jaco tone at all; it's ok.
Thanks, I was just messing around with the fretless. Kinda experimenting around with different techniques to see what it's capable of. It actually sounds quite nice for under 3 bills. Thanks again.
Bassplayer mag had high praise for the Squier VM basses. Fender really raised the entry level bar with these bad boys -got my eye on the fretted Jazz.
Sorry to take so long to get back to you, I'm using Ernie Ball Hybrid Slinkys. 45-65-85-105 are the gauges. I like em. They don't hurt the Ebonol fretboard on the Squier much at all, maybe just a few lines from the strings themselves, but that's about it.
I've been playing bass for 35 yrs., but just started to fiddle around with the fretless this year. This is why I got the Squier FVM Fretless so I could get into a good fretless bass for cheap.
I'm flattered that you want to learn my solo, I've never been told that before - go after it.
Heh, I have a knack for going around youtube and learning how to play live concert pieces and improvs other people put up. There are so many amazing bassists with so many unique styles on youtube its great. If I had a webcam i'dd throw a few covers up... but alas with the hard times I can't even purchase one.

hey, i love your sound! i searched for bartolini because i planned to get these pickups for my jazz bass, and you've just convinced me!
are they the split coil or dual in-line coil? thanks!

The Barts are not necessarily hotter, that have the Bartolini sound - strong low mid punch and the clarity is much better than the Duncans.

what kind of bartolini pups are they?
PipeFellow3434 2 years ago
They are Bartolini 9J1's. They really make this bass zing with "mwah". And that is "zings", not sings.

Are the Barts hotter than the stock Duncans that are in the bass?
