There are no sanctions. What you call "sanctions" is the refusal by US banks (e.g. IMF) to give Mugabe any more money. It is by no means "sanctions", it is simply a refusal to finance his corrupt regime! The only real sanctions are against personal effects and businesses owned by about 200 corrupt government officials. And even these sanctions are by US and EU only. The true obstacle for a trade is that there is nothing Zim can offer the world: both its economy and agriculture have collapsed.

For example, introducing modern medicine into Africa has greatly increased the population there, which I doubt is a good thing. The modern world currently has little to do with Africa in comparison to other parts of the world. China, India and the middle east all get more attention. Modern medicine includes modern methods of birth control. If you don't breed like rabbits the population won't grow. If you blame the white man, what colour is Mugabe? Who is killing who? There has to be a way for black Zimbabweans to address the land greivances of the past that is also consistent with growing enough food to feed everyone and maintaining the health of the Zimbabwe economy. Instead, what Mugabe has done, is hand large chunks of land to his supporters who then lack the knowledge and skill to farm it properly. So Zimbabwe spirals into poverty and ruin. Nothing can justify that. It's stupid.

Indeed. And anyway the proposal makes no sense. Zimbabwe isn't Kenya - this isn't about 'tribal territories' (by which I guess you mean fair distribution of resources across ethnic lines?) Everyone in Zimbabwe is being governed by their 'own kind' - it's one nation. This is about politics; about land and investment strategies and visions for the future; and about the tactics that politicians use to stay in power.

There is sort of tribalsm with Ndebeles and Shonas, Mugabe is himself a Shona and thats where he gets a lot of hhis support from, you see in many cases where he decides to give most speeches in Shona. I fear that talk of tribalism is a red herring that can make things more dangerous. Journalists in the west have been falling back on a lazy 'tribalism' explanation for events in Zimbabwe for many years. But even they now recognise that it doesn't explain anything. It's true that the siNdebele-speaking areas are more likely to support MDC than ZANU, but leadership of both parties is spread across ethnic groups. Zimbabwe is striking for its absence of tribalism - let's try to keep it that way!
