Dave Semenko, Jay Miller, John Kordic. Three top of the line goons. I heard these three were actually talented hockey players but were pretty much pressured into the enforcer role.
Gretzkys true bodyguard was Marty Mcsorley, I liked Semenko but overrated, he did have one punch type of power but gassed quick and really had no technique...Although he was the scariest looking guy back then which probably was enough some nights.
K I grew up in Edmonton watching Semenko and he grabbed and grabbed a lot but so did everyone. They all threw cheap shots when they had a guy down or when the linesmen had him tied up. Why does everyone look at the past through rose colored glasses??? I remember a game when Semmy clotheslined a guy for no reason other than looking at Kurri sideways. It was funny as hell though :)
Not sure why there are so many negative comments about Semenko's fighting ability. I remember him kicking ass on a regular basis. If you messed with Gretzky you knew you were going to get a visit from Dave Semenko!
