Did Tony Banks subliminally or,on purpose Steal this "pair idea" when "Strictly,Inc." came out 15 years after Anthony Phillips had this idea for a "pop" lp ?!! They should get back together again , and settle it with Genesis Mark II !!
Sure was surprising when I first heard this album. Was AP trying 'to hit the big time' (going for a hit) or did it just work out that way? Songs not all that different from this *were* popular on the radio at the time. - Maybe his working w/ Richard Scott was an influence (& getting new keys + drum machine, seem I recall he said this in an interview). Looks like about half of the album was co-written by him and Ant.
AFAIK only when re-released a 2nd time did it carry the moniker 'The AP Band'.
OMG THIS SUCKS!..and i like anthony phillips...just not this 80s garbage with the god-awful drum machine.im convinced the worst time for music ever was the 80s and currently.
I'm 20 and I love this. When the guitar starts to play the synth line it's so powerful and emotional. Anthony Phillips truly is one of the most underrated composers of all time.
This album is from 1984, Anthony Phillips sang this one and seemed to capture it very well ( seemed to overcome his known shyness) also played all the guitars, SynthBass from (Analog!) vintage ARP2600 and melody-harmony with a Polymoog. he is associated with Richard Scott on this album, who is credited here using Roland TR808 drum machine and a vocoder. my infos are from the original CD. this is one of my favourite of Invisible man along with last instrumental "Alex". really nice to see it here
Wow. This is as close to perfect, musically and lyrically, as a song can get.
The ring of the telephone
The quizzical "Hello?"
The glass in my shaking hand
Lying shattered in the snow
I can't think of any song that captures better what it's like to be head over heels obsessed in love. And the way that 12-string enters on the chorus. Masterpiece.

I can't stop listening to this... Such a catchy and fantastically satisfying tune, and he sings it so perfectly.
Real drums would be nice though... That drum machine sounds pretty lame :P

Really about as perfect a pop song can get. They don't have songs like this anymore.
