i think i'm one of about three people in the world that was never a fan of sarah's voice. can't stand it. and i personally did not enjoy her at this performance. loved loved loved the guys though. who is that glorious man beside anthony warlow? he may just be my new fave phantom! having said that, MC will always be my Phantom with Colm Wilkinson and Rob Guest being my second place. Can not wait until the dvd release.

By the way, the probable reason he declined to sing is that he is fully involved with eight shows a week in The Wizard of Oz. This last evening concert is the only one he could do that wouldn't require him to miss OZ performances, and he's always felt very responsible about being there for people who have bought tickets for the show he's in now--and are expecting/hoping to see him perform.

--And, when would he have had time to rehearse?

seeing the premiere screening yesterday at Sydney's beautiful State Theatre was so magical and when Anthony Warlow started to sing, the entire theatre filled with applause, it was awesome! Sarah Brightman was flawless. A class production.

Michael's being escorted off the stage when Sarah started to sing was awkward and ungracious. ALW implies she agreed to sing but MC didn't. Whatever the reason, it would have been so sweet to hear him sing just a few notes, like "Christine I loved you" at the finale.  I hope interviewers will ferret out the real story here.

Finally saw this at the State Theatre in Sydney today. The entire production was wonderful (even if I did miss the elaborate set design of the actual show).

For a time both JOJ and Warlow were in contention for my favourite Phantom, but after seeing Ramin perform the show today, I think it's fairly concrete -- he's the best Phantom ever. His version of 'Down Once More/Final Lair' was above and beyond anything I've ever seen, and truly made the Phantom a three dimensional character.

Best guess why not? He was committed to eight shows a week in the Wizard of Oz (had a matinee the afternoon of the concert) and just couldn't afford the time and energy that even the relatively minimal rehearsal for actually performing in the Finale required. I don't think he would *ever* go on such an important show and just wing it.
