@missineichen Alan Rickman played Valmont in the stage version. I don't know why they didn't choose him for the film. He's better looking and has a superior sounding voice, plus everyone I've heard of who saw the play said he was brilliant in the part. Oh well, that's Hollywood for ya.

GREAT MOVIE--read the book by Delaclos--but the Movie is much better...it got nominated for best picture, but lost to 'Rain Man'--Still, one of the best movies--it's not only of an era, but it's themes are for all time...the ending is excellent....

Basically she had died in a convict because psychical pressure -- sorrow, guilt, disappointment, love -- that caused her to fall ill.
