Does anyone else get chills while listening to this? I want to be a scout sniper in the USMC, and for some reason every time i hear this song i feel like I should be crawling through the jungle in a ghillie suit in some foreign country.
this song in the movie plays when one of the soldiers is talking to a dead person in the desert and bury's the corpse and hes laughing/going nuts or something? lol at night
@HockeyDarkness22 Actually, it plays when they first encounter the burning oil wells, when Swoff says, "the Earth is bleeding". I don't think any music is playing when the guy is talking to the corpse. If there is, it's much more subdued than this. And he's not laughing when he's ordered to bury the corpse—just pissed off that no one else seems to be as flippant toward a man's death as he is.
It's raining oil. It's raining oil fellas. You ever see that movie 'Giant'? You've seen the movie 'Giant'. James Dean, man. "My well came in, Bick. I'm rich, Bick. Richer than you."
This part of the soundtrack always reminds of the scenes where the main marines are walking in the desert with the oil fields lit up & the sky black, with just bits of light shining through. Most visually impressive scenes in the movie.
@Amorstopineed sadam hussein lit up most of the oil wells in iraq when the marines invaded. the oil and smoke would rise up into the air, some of the oil would get trapped in the smoke and it "rained" down on the marines.
para apagar los incendios de pozos petroleros, se debe efectuar una explosión en la boca misma del pozo, para agotar el oxígeno y así sofocar las llamas, en kuwait duraron casi 3 años apagando los pozos que incendio Hussein
does anybody know how they put out those fires? im pretty curious because thats gas and all and would be pretty dangerous. what, did they have to cut the pipes or something?
It usually involves turning the feed to that pipe off and using a flame retardant to put out the burning oil. Not very complicated and difficult and messy.
@CormoranTick i seen a video on the net on how they put out them fire was pretty cool they got an old airplane jet engine on full power and sprayed water into the engine and it forces it out the back mega fast and kills the fire was only a test so dunno if they put it into real life use but none the less it was sweet and a good idea
No. Sadam wanted the oil but when he saw that the Americans were winning he order his men to burn the fields so the Amercans would be left whit nothing only sand and rocks.
@koalashooter1 they used explosives to suffocate them. no joke, the explosive goes off near by and uses all the oxigen, no oxigen no fire, just oil after that.
@koalashooter1 they would dampen the fire over several days with a retardant and then set off an explosive charge next to the well. The absence of air after the explosion would put out the fire. they would then move in to cap the well. correct me if i am wrong, i saw this several years ago on a documentary on the History Channel.
@koalashooter1 Actually what they do is they set off an explosive, near the fire. It sucks out all of the oxygen from the fire because the explosion needs and it stops of the fire. I knew a guy that did that as his job. I was curious myself.
No, he probably didn't. Those oil rigs are only configured to allow a small amount (respectively) out. I don't think you realize just how massive these oil fields are. More oil was probably burned by Americans drivers in their cars in one day, then Saddam burned with those fields.
Yup, I was dead on. It is estimated those fields burned oil at a loss of 6 million per day. The United States uses over 20 million per day. It is a lot, but completely insignificant when compared to global usage.
The fires burned for 8 months, or roughly 245 days. So, 1.47 billion barrels were lost. About 90 million are consumed every single day, worldwide. So about, 16 days worth of oil was lost. Insignificant.
1.47 BILLION barrels of oil is alot of oil, and to a country thats economy is based on oil was complelty devastating, 1.47 billion of oil might not sound so important to you, but to the US and his allies was a huge defeat, due that the oil could had been used for advancing forces, many of the American forces were in their thin lines of oil cause of the fields, not to mention that if we were to stop them, it could had made a difference on todays global economy, insignificant no.
@DOSU344 It is insignificant. 16 days, in comparison to decades of supply is insignificant. You wouldn't change economic or energy policies if you discovered 16 days worth of oil supply. It was, statistically an insignificant amount.
I think the movie did such a great job shooting this scene with the oil rain, it gave such a surreal atmosphere in a real place, and this song really complimented that surreal feel to it. One of my favorite movie scenes of all time.
cuz i love this job... hooraa.
