The only motor-sportsmen/women I'd call true athletes are the Off-Road Bike racers (Moto Cross, Enduro, Desert Rallies, etc).

Remember, that was written long before motor 'sport' existed.

I know there are many, many very fit drivers in motor-sports, but I stand by my original comment that competing in a car doesn't make you an athlete.
