  • LOL LOL she went down the stairs the second time!

  • not now Scarlet im pooped HAHAHA

  • The part where Scarlett falls down the stairs the first time is actually better staged than in the real movie.

  • @TurquoiseMood In the movie it wasnt done for comedic effect.

  • @MPL029 No, but it's so poorly done it looks like it was.

  • @TurquoiseMood I disagree..but to each his/her own

  • Hilarious!

  • where can i get one of those dresses?

  • Thanks for the great upload! :)

  • most dont know it, but the dress is a Bob Mackey original design and is in a museum now !

  • I remember watching this first run. Funny stuff

  • this cracks me up ./..LMAO .....just saying

  • Not that I could ever presume to improve the funniest scene in television -- but how funny would it have been if he tried to carry her up the stairs with the curtain rod in the dress and gotten her stuck in the bannisters??? Maybe it was too dangerous.

  • @ravenel2

That would've been hilarious! You should be a comedy writer. ^__^

  • lolll I love how she rolls down the stairs....such a funny remake

  • God Bless Bob Mackie for the costume and the writers for the best line in the whole skit, 'I saw it in the window and I just HAD to have it!." ;) This is my favorite Carol Burnett skit by far

  • I remember the first time I saw this on TV and I nearly died laughing at that ridiculous dress she was wearing. When I saw it again here on utube I nearly died laughing again. One of the most funniest moments in TV history! The funniest line though was when she said "I saw it in the window and couldn't resist it!" That just sends you over the edge! She is a comic genius. I will always love her for making me laugh and being a wonderful person on top of it all.

  • When the curtain-rod scene first aired, I remember lying on the red shag rug of my parent's house laughing until I couldn't breathe. There was a longer pause for the audience reaction then than there is now. I'm surprised the cast stayed in character/didn't crack up, as they were prone to do at the drop of a hat later on. Conway tries to steal the show with a couple of ad-libs (that whole Camptown Races thing was a.l., as evidenced by Ms. Shore's just repeating her line), but it doesn't work.

  • I love how sissy really says THE line!

    Classic

  • thank ya...i saw it in the window and i just couldn't resist it...

that accent always cracks me up

  • i <3 carol burnett! she cracks me up!

  • "You know, that's real catchy, you oughta' say that to music"

  • @kayjo101 It is "set that to music."

  • That curtain rod look reminds me of Michelle Obama

  • @KraZedSexPoodle You are soooo right! Good one Buddy :)

  • what wind?

    (music)

well thats pretty but it doesn't answer my question.

  • Hahaha this is the greatest thing ever!!

  • This is genius!!!! The originality and thought that was put into this is a timeless classic! I love the curtain rod scene, and Sissy saying, Oh, Scarlett, I don't give a damn!!

  • Dinah Shore was great

  • The curtain rod is classic.

  • totally awesome....saw this when I was a kid.....haven't seen in a hundred years and it all came back to me. funnier than ever! read her autobiography this past year...she talked about this skit. Bob Mackie was her costume designer and he was the one that came up with the infamous dress! She gives him so much credit for what he did for that show.

an amazing woman, an amazing talent

  • Why does Brashly have on a Calvary hat?

  • That gown is one of the best sight gags in the history of television, if not THE best...

  • @GloriaD5767 it's up there with the I LOVE LUCY and the candy making episode

  • @Morgaine845 Definitely!!!!!!!

  • @Morgaine845 And the raw eggs and Hollywood with Bill Holden! And vitameatavegamin!

  • 15 people poked their eye out trying to put the curtains on their bodies :)

  • I have remarked on other threads about Carol Burnett and am always , forever think that this fine, funny, lady, who has given so much joy and comfort to others will always have not only a special place in our hearts, but heaven too. God Bess you Carol for helping all of us through some hard times. We will always love you!

  • This was a real treat to see this again after all these years. Carol Burnett could always make me laugh out! Loved the part when she comes out in that dress and says she saw it in the window and just had to have it! God that's FUNNY!

  • funniest female comedian to ever walk on this damn planet! XD

  • the sketch was called "went with the Wind"

  • @mx5alive Even the title is funny! I never knew that.

  • I remember seeing this when I was a kid. How much talent? Not just Carol but the rest of this cast too. Great television. And the curtain rod!!!! Couldn't catch my breath!

  • sissy rocks !!!!!!!!!!!

  • The best ending of all parodies in comedy history.

  • When she comes out in the Curtain Dress I laughed so hard i couldn't breath.

  • That is just funnier every time I watch it. xD I KNOW THE LINES ALL OF THEM!!! XD

  • Harvey Korman was superb as Clark Gable doing Rhett. I still lmbo when I see his performance.

  • Scarlett went Ga-Ga

  • OMG!! I cant remember laughing so hard, when Carol comes out with the rod still in her dress.. !!

    Carol was the best!

We stopped watching TV in our house cold turkey 5 years ago. Recently, during a visit, I caught sight of some programing the kids were watching and I was disgusted. So when people ask why many of our young people are narcissistic and unmotivated (I could go on) the answer is what they are watching on TV, they are mimicking it.

  • I think that was the longest laugh in television history, as Starlett descends the staircase. I will never forget that moment!!

  • Sissy is the best character in this sketch!

    "Look away!"

    "Look away?

    "Look away!"

"That's real pretty but that don't answer my question"

  • This sketch was re-edited. I remember the night this was broadcast, when she appeared at the top of the stairs with the curtain rod still on, Carol stood at the top of the stairs and the laughing went on for at least four minutes.

  • @Dorsalfin Well, it is pretty funny, but I suppose since Youtube has a time limit, I can understand why they shortened it. My mom said that was the most memorable moment of any show she'd seen. I only wish it was in better quality.

  • this is the BEST of the carol burnett show, and there were a lot of good skits.

  • One of my favorite bits!

  • CANT STOP LAUGHING!!!

  • Brashley

  • lol

    this is sooo funny!

  • "HOW ARE YOU?!" "Oh I'm pretty good thanks, and you?"

  • AMAZING! :D

  • My Favorite Carol Burnett Show on 'Gone With The Wind'....:)) <3<3

  • Whoever wrote this was a genius!!

  • "Show the minister out" "For 300 dollars I'd show him anything" hahahahaha

  • look away! LOOK AWAY!!

  • The single best sight gag in the history of the universe. A masterpiece!

  • Scarlet: "But Rhett what shall I do? Where shall I go?

    Rhett:"Frankly my dear, I don't really give a damn."

    I have this movie memorized!

  • Absolutely hysterical!!! One of the best comedy sketches off all time. A masterpiece!!

  • The hysterical curtain dress is now presiding at the Smithsonian (along with other television treasures like Archie Bunker's chair, the Fonz's jacket, the original Kermit the Frog and other things! The best comical skit in American history!

  • LOL is all I can say!!

  • LOL is all I can say!!!

  • I saw this as a kid and could not stop laughing for 20+ minutes!! Funniest tv moment ever!

  • The costume is much bigger than it looks in real life!

  • THE funniest moment ever on tv. STILL as funny today as it was when i first saw it growing up. The Carol Burnett Show makes SNL look sad, sad sad. What fantastic writing and performing!!!

  • Tim Conway was great 2

  • Lmbo at melody

  • The curtain rod dress was a masterpiece of comic absurdity! Congrats to costume designer Bob Mackie for one of the most memorable scenes of the show!

  • Carol and Co. are my idols. I love the show! I wish I could have seen it in its prime.

  • Reality shows sucks! The old sitcoms are the best!!!!!!!!

  • @august1302 I couldn't agree more. I was born too late. Thank God for Netflix and reruns! Carol Burnett is a national treasure.

  • how are you??? HOW ARE YOU???? Oh, i'm pretty good, thanks!

  • Absolutely the best. Carol and Company were just tooooo funny. Miss watching them.

Will read Carol's new book for some behind the scenes stories. Carol and Lucy were simply the best !!!

  • awesome video could u check my channel out if u like my vids u should subscribe. keep it up.

  • For us baby boomers, Carol's walking

down the stairs as Scarlett wearing the

curtain rod in her dress remains one of the funniest moments in television history.

  • This skit has always been my antidote to the awful movie

  • LOL I love all the references to old southern songs.

  • Nearly fainted at the sight of that green curtain dress costume

  • I saw it in the window and i just couldn't resist it.

  • "Low-life Captain Butler"

"Why, precious Rhett. Where is he?"

    Lmao!

  • I saw it the window.....and just couldn't resist it.....................

    Classic.

I've remembered this scene since the first time it aired. How good must it be for that ? Pretty great.

  • @jasper799 ... that was the single greatest scene in television that I can recall. When I first saw that curtain rod, I rolled out of my chair laughing with tears in my eyes. Every time I ever saw Gone With the Wind, I half expected Carol Burnett and her Drape Dress to come down the stairs.

  • I wish they still made shows like this today.

  • lol that dress makes her look like turandot

  • It's a Mackie!

  • There were lots of great things on Carol Burnett but the green curtain rod dress bit is the only friggin' clip they ever show!!!!

  • oh that dress! sheer genius!

  • They sure don't make shows like this anymore,it's a shame. Now all we have are reality T.V. shows.

  • I love that dress! This is a classic Carol Burnette!

  • hehehehehehe G.O.N.E with the W.I.N.D xD

  • my mom says this is hilarious and i tried to watch it but it took for ever to load

  • Rat Butler: Startlett, I love you...that gown is gorgeous!

Starlett: Thank you---I saw it in the window and I just couldn't resist it!

  • No dress rehearsal for that scene. Genius.

  • Ahaha, that curtain dress!

  • my grandparents wanted me to look this up i luv it 3:31 AMAZING DRESS!!!! LOL its awesome!!!!!

  • 5:15 you can hear her say to him to just keep going lol

  • LOL! I did! he was tripping over that ridiculous dress LOL!

  • HAAHAHAHAHAA. i love the last part.

"well ms scarlett, i don't give a damn!"

  • Ms. Starlet :)

  • lmao! I remember being in tears the first time I saw this. Bravo!!

  • I saw this when it first aired. And I remember seeing GWTW at March AFB when it was re-released in the late 60s or early 70s. (And I'm going to see "The Wizard of Oz" on the big screen on 9/23! These are the kind of movies you want to see on a big screen.) Loved the Carol Burnett show, this was the best sketch she did. Why don't we have shows like this anymore? Although, I do love to see Craig Ferguson.

  • This is and was the funniest thing that I ever saw on TV or in the movies until Saturday Night Lives's Chris Farley and Patrick Swazey did the "Chippendales " tryouts. That one makes me laugh so much that tears are streaming down my face...as does the Carole Burnette (Scarlet scene with the curtain rods).

  • Love it!

  • I remember this episode from my childhood. It was so hilarious then, and it's even more hilarious now. Thanks so much for posting! I had a much-needed laugh today. What a wonderful time, when comedy was clean enough for the whole family to enjoy...

  • I remember this from my childhood as well, a shared memory with my grandmother.:) We watched this show whenever it was on for a well deserved giggle.

  • Sissy: "Shoot! For three hunnert dollahs I'll show 'im anythin' he wants". LOL!!! That's the funniest line ever!!!

  • One of the funniest sketches ever!

  • HA,HA,HA,HA,HA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That was so funny my side is hurting I was lauging so hard. I love the end where she slaps Scarlett and says frankly miss Scarlett I don't give a dame. That was so funny.

  • "I can die a hapy woman. Bye y'all! *mwah*" (thud) LMAO THAT WAS SO MEAN BUT FUNNY AS WELL XD!!!

  • Carol's "slow roll" down the stairs is priceless!

  • haha that gown is gorgeous!!!! :D

  • Love the way the managed to compress the main scenes and dialogue into the short sketches. Very clever.

  • NO NO NO - that was the whole point of this sketch - its supposed to be a parody, which made for a great comedic situation!

  • "I saw it in the window and I just couldn't resist it!" LOL
