One thing that people fail to realize at this level. Most little league pitchers throw at around 45mph. Little league pitchers that make it to these games throw around 60mph. And these kids are 11-12 years old. Their bodies aren't done growing so an injury like that can have massive repercussions on his later life..... Or it could just be a really big boo-boo.

I played catcher for several years and I got hit all over the place, pads and non-padded areas. I think probably the worse "boo-boo" was when the batter tipped the ball and it hit me on the side of the ankle. This happened towards the end of the game. I still played but my foot/ankle was numb for the rest of the time. Swelled up pretty good and was really sore for several days. (thankfully had full week to recover before next game).
