My family lives in Torrance right near Zamperini Field and when I asked them who Louis Zamperini was that they named an air field after him my sister said, I'm not sure I think he was a war hero. When I saw that "Unbroken" was his story I knew I wanted to know more so I immediately purchased and began reading it. OMG I have not been able to put this book down. I am going back to Torrance in a few weeks, I can't wait to tell my sister about Louis Zamperini and give her the book to read.
Louie Zamperini is truely unbreakable. I felt really sad for Bill Harris who was lost in Korea and for Fred Garnett who lost his leg during captivity. In war noone returns home unwounded. I don´t know if could have forgiven the japanese I were one of the POWs.
Louis Zamperini is God's gift of inspiration to the modern world today. I'm 3/4 of the way through the book and only put it down when I can't read through my tears. Thank you Laura Hillenbrand for writing Louis' story so it will be available forever for future generations who may also need inspiration when life becomes difficult.
Read it in two days, absolutely amazing, as good as Seabiscuit. She writes beautifully. All young people should be required to read this book so they understand what our grandfathers went through so they could have the life they now enjoy.
I'm 11 years old so and I'm reading unbroken and my mom thinks it's to bad of a book to read for a kid but the reason I'm reading it is because my social studies teacher actually knows Louie Zamperini himself I'm on page 150 of unbroken and it's the best book ever
What a wonderful book about a great American hero. I could not put the book down. I read it in 2 days. So many young heros that gave so much for our freedom and the power of God to heal all wounds. A story well told. Thank you Laura Hillenbrand.
The praisen on the back cover of the book is better than the quotes above; I am suspect of praise from other authors, because given an opportunity to plug their books, their judgment is skewed.
One of the best books I have ever read...couldn't put it down. Thank you, Ms. Hillenbrand for bringing Mr. Zamperini's amazing story to us. He is a true hero!
Astonishing story made even more powerful because this goliath of a war hero is still living. I was thinking who should play him in the movie...? I would love to see James Woods play him at some part of his life. James has the range and even looks like him a little! Anyone ever see James Woods in "Once Upon a Time in America?" He was awesome in it and played a young man into his elderly years. Francis Lawrence, Director, I hope you find this post..!
Just finished the book. Plowed through it in one week. An amazing page turner. As many twists as in any thriller. A must read for anyone. Inspirational.
CFS is real, baby. I know someone who got it in 1987. It was going around then. Cher got it then too. This person tested positive for Epstein-Barrr virus, as did Cher and Lauren. They said he had mono, but he didn't regain his full strength for FOUR years! What a frustrating thing. Terrible for those who never regained their strength. The article in the WSJ today discussed possible retroviruses.
I expect that Japanese money will try to purchase the copyright of this book in order to stop publishing it because it reveals the brutality of the Japanese. Americans should know about the real aspect of Japan and Japanese culture. Asian people who had continuous relations with Japan in the past know well about the Jap and still hate them.
Incredible story of an amazing unsung hero. Laura Hillenbrand writes from the heart in this breathtaking story of Louie Zamperini. I agree with the others -- this book should be made into a movie for all generations to see.
Just this minute finished this book...How have we not heard this story before now?
I don't know how this could successfully be brought to the screen - It's almost too big of a story to accurately and completely tell. I'm doubtful that anyone, even the great directors, could do it justice. Amazing.
My father is reading this book right now and as a former WWII POW in the far east he has to stop and hold back the tears as Louis' story unfolds. Thank-you Laura Hillenbrand for telling his story.
I just read the book and recommend it to everyone -- it will also hopefully be made into a movie. When you think you have it rough... just read a bit of what this American went through.. hell on earth, twice over. You'll never think you have it rough again !

Louie wrote his own book several years ago; I wonder how it compares to this book. Laura spent seven years getting tremendous detail into this book.

I just finished this special book. Thank you so much, Laura Hillenbrand! Your life in doing the research must have been as exciting as Louie's.
I would love to meet Louie and wonder if Jean Balch is the one I knew at Western Airlines.
