  • Be-au-ti-ful. Thank You

  • you play a mean guitar

  • you are Frosty the Blues Guitar Man!

  • i believe this just convinced me to buy a j50 over a j45.

  • Roy Bookbinder is a great player. However you shouldn't sell yourself short Frosty. A great tune very well played. Bravo.

  • Thanks. Makes me remember why I favorited your tubes. And man that J-50 has it all. doc

  • that's fantastic.!

  • "I learned the tune from a recording by Roy Book Binder."

Of course you know that's how Roy learned it too right? Nice job! One of the many Roy tunes I just haven't been able to figure out - yet.

  • Man! You're excelent!!!! Great Job!

Now you have a fan from Brazil!!!

  • i like the slow mellowd out feel of the way you play this..... now i have to go check out some more songs you have done!!!

  • wow your j-50 sounds sweet sweet sweet.

  • What a great song and you played it perfectly. I'm thinking about getting a J-50 I'm actually looking at some older ones now, do they sound alright with flat picking?

  • I think the Gibson J-45s/J50s are better for flat picking than they are for fingerpicking - and they are pretty good for fingerpicking.

  • Man you got that nailed. Beautiful job!

It's been referred to as the graduation piece for blues fingerpickers - you have definetely graduated. Please keep sharing!

  • sounds alot like robert johnson.

  • Yaaassssss!

  • Whew!!!! DAmn!!

  • Beautiful playing. You are a great artist!

  • Great work!

The tone on those j-50s blows my mind! I can't get over the low end... Just amazing :)

That looks just like the one James Taylor used to play except for the pick-guard.

  • I listened to you on the Guild D-55 a minute ago. Now this. I love the blues (who doesn't). Really nice mate. From Oz.

  • That was amazing and the best I have ever heard. Thank you for posting this and thank you for the inspiration!

  • You're a master !

The sound as you record it is absolutely great !

    How did you ???

  • Wow, is all I can say. This is why I wish sometimes I'd learned guitar instead of bass. Id love to just sit by a fire or outside playin songs like this!

  • please tabs..............tanks

  • awesome J-50! i have a 62' that was given to me 2yrs ago. its my first guitar and im just starting to learn. this is very inspiring! great vid!

  • Ah man, that is some sweet blues playing man. Nice job, great sounding guitar too.

  • whata tune to play on such a gorgeous day!!!

  • i am very impressed with your guitar skills and style. how long have you been playing guitar for?

  • I wanted to comment on your rendition of this song, and i gave you 5 stars. The original version of the piece has no turn around, but ends on the 1 chord...with a 3 beat cadence and a rest: similar to MJH's "candyman blues."

  • beeeuuutifull. just got to look for a tab sheet to learn from. thanks for the inspiration..

    gazza uk

  • Nice sweet playing - so many others just rush through this - I love the groove you create

  • Thank you for those wonderful songs you play!

Regards from Chile (yep, you got a South American fan right here)

  • Fine recording of your piece, wish they all recorded so nicely. Good levels and excellent timbre there. thanks for the lovely playing!

  • Thank you for posting this. Really nice.

  • Ton and the other guitarist on the old Kicking Mule label were an inspiration to me. It is a delight to hear him play on those videos, thank you very much for the pointer! And thanks for the kind words, I am pleased to know that you have learned some tunes from my recordings.

  • Man, you play wonderfully.. Such a gentle and precise touch!

Saturday I opened a gig with Mississippi Blues, actually without being able to play it.. Let's say that what my hands couldn't do, I tried hard with my heart..! ahah

    Great playing,.. bravo!

  • George Lucas!!!!

  • beautiful will sub immediately!

  • Great job! I really enjoyed it.

  • you're so awesome! I would just love to jam with you sometime

  • Wonderful playing....how many guitars do you have??? Us gear-heads gotta know! : )

  • really good.

  • It's cultured middle-class white blues playing. And very good too - we can all learn from each other's music -that's how the blues was created I think.

  • muy bueno desde barcelona....gracias! te invito a visitar la sociedad de blues de barcelona ,España,...un saludo!

  • Ye gads. The man plays EVERYTHING and does so flawlessly. What an instrument collection. What a talent.

    I think I`ll jump off a bridge....

  • Your good

  • Lovely, lilting rendition. Beautifully played. Very cool.

  • Dear Frostymorn, terrific videos.....pure silver and gold! Also a great thx for introducing me to Roy Book Binders beautiful music - yet another of all those incredible pupils of Revd Gary Davis....Love n Peace

  • five stars!!

  • You Are Freakin Awesome Brother I Would Rather Watch You Play More Than Any Other

    Guitar Player!

  • This sounds like the Stefan Grossman version I learned about twenty years ago.I still can't play as well as you though. Good stuff.

  • You are amazing. What's the title? Mississipi Blues?:) I 'd like to learn it :)

  • Excellent Mississippi Blues! You sound a lot like "The Book". I play this as well and, like you, I don't have the boogie triplets bass part down pat, but maybe some day. I was playing this part one day and my wife was actually dancing to it. I though, whoa, I must be on to something. But enough about me.

I really liked your "famous 'A' lick" and the ease at which you float into the E7.

    Keep on picking!

  • Book is an inspiration - his picking and his attitude towards picking. I wouldn't worry about playing exactly like Roy, I don't. Besides, we know Book doesn't want to mess with anyone's "personality". 8-)

Thanks for listening - keep picking, right back at you shine98.

  • Very well done 5* !!!

  • reminds me of my childhood, thanks for this!

  • Could you also play some chord strumming with this guitar? Like to hear how it sounds when strumming.

    Thanx!

    Keep on playing, it's wonderful

  • very sweet playing:) sounds great...

  • Beautifully played - thanks for sharing this!

  • you are soooo great

    :D

  • Very nice playing! Sometimes I have my doubts about this whole YouTube thing, and then I find a video like yours and the clouds go away...

  • dude i'm jealous of all your guitars. :(

  • Beautiful playing. I really enjoyed that.

  • beautiful piece nice job on it

  • Yikes! Well done. Have you tried "Georgia Camp Meeting"? It`s my all time favorite guitar piece.

  • Thank you for the recommendation. I do play a version of GCM and agree, it's a fine guitar piece. No video, but I do have an MP3 recording available of the tune on Soundclick. Search for "georgia camp meeting" with quotes. Thanks for listening.

  • Nice job!

  • Nicely done. Very pleasing. Love those Thomastik's

  • Amazing, your videos are always astounding, and you play the guitar beaurifully, it's like angels singing. Good job son.

  • That's some pretty neat playing :) This song just made my day. Thanks! This guitar's really aged beautifully, excellent tone. BTW, what gauge of strings do you use to play finger-style?

  • Thank you! It is very nice to know your day was improved by listening to my guitar playing. It's a delightful guitar with a wonderfully rich tone. My setup includes Thomastik Plectrum AC-112 strings for 6,5,4,3 and plain steel (Pearse, I think) gauge .017 and .013 for the top two strings.

  • Oh..ok. BTW, I just got myself a Guild D-50. (I love your D-55 too.) I think mine's fitted with medium gauge strings because for some reason they seem pretty stiff to play and the bottom strings buzz (esp. the E string) lest I press down real hard. I'll try your setup and see how it goes.

Oh yeah, do you have the tabs for this song?

  • The song is transcribed in "Books Blues Book". I suggest that you have your guitar looked at by a competent repair person. A good setup should make even medium gauge strings play better.
