I think "Boss on the Bottom" would've been a better title.
I'd like to see the boss visit the "forgotten" departments. I work in manufacturing, but my department of 3 people makes the documentation. The system is set up to make data available and convenient for manufacturing so I have to reassemble the data, bit by bit, into something usable and no one cares that I spend days on mundane things because it means 100 engineers don't have to change their habits.
Don't get me wrong, I think the premise is a good one. I think a boss shouldn't be so disconnected from their entry level workers. I just think it should be a prerequisite of being a boss and not an afterthought. I am sure his decisions would have been better from the start if he had started out as the guy who cleans the port-o-potties. It is a thing that can't be taught in college and many people of power lack.
Reality Show? Come on CBS, you know there is no such thing. Is "entertainment" thats what it is PERIOD. Any time you have a script and a film crew following you for weeks or months, what is it? ENTERTAIMENT. Here you have this white clean cut guy with manicure hands playing the role of an ex construction worker employed by WM, being followed by a crew of cameras just hanging around speaking to other employeees. I which my employer and supervisors were like that. WM paid CBS. $REVENUE$FWM
How is the person being incognito if a camera crew is following them around where they are working? I would suspect that they would have an idea of who they are. I didn't watch the show so I don't know.
He had an alias saying he was some average Joe going through the different jobs at WM and was being filmed for a t.v. show. They didn't know he was the top executive.
Hats off to you, Larry, for accepting this challenge and worked at the frontline. You did change my impression of WM and the stereotype of greedy heartless top executive. Keep up the good work and take good care of your good crews.
I am suspect. People act differently when a video camera is around.
Also, I suspect some of it is staged. Would someone invite a stranger/new employee into their home and then start telling them their financial problems?
Do not hate your corporate Overlords, they only wish to control you for your own good. You're mind is totally controlled, it has been stuffed into their mold, you will do as you are told, until the rights to you are sold. Follow them as they lead you, until the day that they don't need you. Don't call for help, no one will heed you.
This nothing but a PR scam, WM is losing to much business to over pricing and not taking consideration of thier employees needs I have viewed to many of these videos as a employee. The salary employees only care how the Hrly employees make them look. DO AS I SAY,NOT AS I DO!!!!! WM MOTTO
I would like to see that POS Randall Stephenson from AT&T do this...I know he wont since he is such a money grubbing coward...but it sure would be nice to let him see what a real job and having to really work means. Course, the TV cameras would be having to censor the hell out of the audio.
Wake Up People!, like little Falcon a.k.a. Balloon Boy said, "He did it.....for the show", nothing is gonna change because remember, he (the boss) is the same person that implemented the productivity increases company wide so things may change for now but trust me, when the stock starts to decline it's gonna be back to the pre-undercover boss climate.
I have a question, the woman who lives at home with her family invited the "new guy" home for dinner, here's my question, do all white folks invite strangers into their home around their children and valuables or was this just for the cameras, i gotta know.
nice and fluffy little show you put on there. I have a few questions though. Will all his employees forced to do the jobs of two or three people get promotions and raises? How many times can the old lady clock in late before she gets docked now? Is the nice man with the positive outlook on life still sucking human waste from public portable toilets?
There will always be some problems in companies that nobod sees, but he actually took a great opportunity here. Yes, he only met a hand full of people who work for the company, but he got to experience what it was like for many of the front-end employees, and see directly how his policies affect them. At least now he can implement the policies he makes with a more direct knowledge of how they're going to affect these front-end employees. I do agree that some changes will always need to be made.
Some of my friends and I got together and watched this. Normally I don't care for Reality TV vary much, but this is a great show! Can't wait to see next week's episode where the CEO of Whooters goes undercover to see first-hand how a lot of the Waitresses undoubtedly feel about how they're required to present themselves.
Now that's the kind of company I wanna work for!! Where the people at the top of the ladder appreciate all the hard work you put into each and every day, and actually take the time to see what YOU need and not just what THEY want... Larry O'Donnell, I tip my hat to you!! ;-)
if every reality show that airs on American television was like this one, I'd be a much happier. I can't believe how many trash shows like Jersey shore and other alike crap airs on television and no group of people stands up against such situation.
The first Episode: (Larry) O'Donnell, III is president and chief operating officer for Waste Management. Prior to being elected president and COO in March 2004, O'Donnell was Waste Management's executive vice president, operations support and chief administrative officer. Prior to that assignment, O'Donnell was executive vice president of Waste Management's Western Group. Prior to joining WM, O'Donnell was vice president and general counsel for Baker Hughes Inc.
@tallen0679 and prior to that he was a stipper, and prior to that he was a teenager, and prior to that a boy, and prior to that an embryo, and prior to that a sperm, and prior to that a sexual interaction between two human beings and prior to that he just wasn't anything at all. Its all very interesting when you look at it.
i got to say that idea's may be hard to come by sometimes but this one is one of the insightful and positive ways to look at the problems for our blue collar coworking friends,
come and help me ..mr president ,waste management enployees in LA have the same problems ..........supervisor are DICKS they treat us with no respect..no body can ever help you with any kind of paper work........the only good thing is we make alot of money.........
i can agree w/ da woman who has many job but makes same $ as if she does 1 i work 4 wm i 1st started @ a set amt. ive since had 7 jobs added &7 diff market area with 7 different rates &procedure i been dere 4 1 yr & still same$mind u dat there other ppl in the bldg still doing wat they did win dey 1st got hired &we getthe same $as far as the 30 minute 4 lunch yep 1 min late bad but 1 minute early is bad wat do u do win 6ppl have to clock in by 12:30
The show is fake as hell! Did waste-management pay for this setup. Its like a informercial.obvious when ceo knocks on the door and the camara is already in the house of a person he just met.total B.S.
Pretty normal. They explain in the first 30 seconds that he's posing as a construction worker who's being filmed and followed. They are going to setup shots, just like they were doing a show. They just don't know who he really is.
Hey goco23!! Larry Odonell don't have to go on a route in Oakland, the GREEN TEAM will do it for him. Didn't you learn you lesson from the las strike?
Love this im very proud of working for WM of Vineland i currently do Clayton NJ R.E.L. I happy that Larry took i few minutes of his time to see what we go tru every day and appreciates are hard work.
I can wait to see what other positions he's going to do.. i would like to see him covered in grease as a Mechanic, like us LOL. i hope he does a mechanic. this show is a great idea!! every boss should do this!! team palm beach, south florida.. here!!
Hey randy sorry i mean LARRY i think its great what you did but if you think that was tough try lifting the 96 or even the 64 gallon cans by hand and not with the lifter like most of us do and then let us know how your back feels the next day. Oh and yes i work on a R.E.L residential garbage keep up the good work ! P.S Let me know when you want to jump on my truck lol...
yea the job mite suck and stink but it dam sure pays well. walter in this clip is my dad so im ready to watch the show we'll be watchin it with the company because there throwing him a party on the night this show airs..go da do ya thang J.settles...
