Definitely not what they show here. This piece is beautiful, but rather clichee. I don't even find it sexually provocative, it's very conservative dance.

Although the performers are the cream of American dance and moreover I find nothing wrong in choreographing sexuality (though I didn't quite see that here) even for children to watch, as long as it's nothing vulgar or distasteful, I have to agree that this is very conventional choreography and not representative of neither Complexions, nor the innovativeness of the contemporary dance world.

haha... im actually not an ex-performer, im a current performer! i have a BFA in dance from NCSA and im working on my MFA right now at NYU... i am not ignorant or clueless... im devoting my life (and more money that ill ever be able to pay back) in my dance education...

you obviously have not seen very much dance outside of the commercial world, which is fine. they are dancers too, and they work hard, but they are not where the innovation happens.

LOL woooow. These are YOUR feelings. Not kids. Saying "kids are watching this" is a poor argument. Many kids see naked bodies in the visual arts without sexualizing it at all. They also have people explain to them that the body can be used for other things even when naked.

i found this video randomly looking for dance videos and i've never heard of contemporary ballet before...but im hooked!!! that was absolutely beautiful!! it put me to tears...the connection the dancers had was incredible and there technique was off the charts!! WOW!!

the way desmond is grabbing her is very sexual, especially for a pre-pubescent kid to be seeing. at one point he lifts her up and sticks his head almost in her crotch. he is in underwear. his hands are so big they wrap around her in a creepy way, i think. plus this choreography is so played out. its just a copy of a copy of a bad copy of something william forsythe did 25 years ago. so bored

so you dont see this duet as sexual? the reason i bring pre-pubescents into it is because that is a huge sector of the viewing audience... i know this because i teach modern and ballet to that age group, and i hear them talking about it constantly. there is no reason that desmond needed to be in such a skimpy outfit manipulating his partner's body in that way... its not a good thing to put out there as a representative of contemporary ballet.

what costume? ive seen tons of martha graham work, i dont know what you are referring to exactly. and sexual is not the problem... i embrace and understand sexuality. but to thrust this into primetime tv is just not good for the development of the artform, in my opinion.
