  • Man, he loves that diminished scale. And rightly so!

  • You can tell that he really practiced a lot...

  • brecker lives

  • Brecker is NASTYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY! Dude can PLAY!

  • 1980. I was 16 and I happened to be in the audience. Now I am a menace to society because I prefer playing the trumpet than shattering windows. Am I real ? Maybe I got a lucky number.

  • I think this bass player may be my new all-time favorite guy ever

  • Nevermind, I just saw it below.

  • What FX is he using at 5:10?

  • @mreschly hey mate the effect is a seamoon funk machine from the70s way cool

  • dang...what i would've dang to see this live...

  • WHATTA KING.

  • Michael is the herbie hancock of sax RIP Michael. Always #1 in my books!!!

  • Anyone know what the black thing is around the neck of his sax is? I'm not sure if that's where he's doing the synth work or if that's something there. I think it is because of the cord running from it, any information on what it is and prices?

  • @24Saxman Its a mic and a trigger for the synth rack he has. Eddie harris had this rig too.!!!

  • It's amazing this vid has only 22,000 hits

  • @darristheman

the average person is too stupid to appreciate music this amazing

  • @DeluxeHobo If they're too stupid to listen to this, then they should stop listening to music entirely.

  • Was Guardala making Mike's mtps by this time? It looks like a Dukoff, but then again it looks gold plated but that may be the lighting. What a f.....n performance, even better than the same tune from Heavy Metal Bebop.

  • Genius

  • which wah-pedal does he use?

  • @KennySaxophone - Mike B. is actually using an envelope filter. Also notice that he`s using an old contact pick up. That is the key to triggering the effect evenly over the full range of the horn I believe. He`s also mixing about 35% dry signal (via sennheiser mic) to 65% effect, I think. That question is asked him in a four part interview done at North Texas that you can find on U-tube. Truely one of the best processed sax sounds ever. R.I.P. Brother, we all miss you very much

  • Does Kenny G even play funk?

  • @CuYlEr409 Does Kenny G even play?

  • wow that one part was so fast, i don't think i've ever heard any instrument play so many notes like that before.

  • I can't imagine bngrace is serious about this comment...

Must be a joke, but of course a bad one.

  • truly some of his BEST tenor playing and his feeling is spot on, man,,,,RIP..

  • Anybody that would post a comment such as "He's pretty good but he's no Kenny G." surely must mean that in jest or he's just posting comment to start a war. Let's all hope that because if he's posting this as a real view, then he must be tracked down locked in a room and forced to listen to ol' Kenny until he drops dead. That's my version of hell on earth.

  • @bngrace Of course not. He is better!

  • @bngrace

Alright guys, let's jump this one.

  • great effects!!

  • @Timppa: his play is so DAMN FRESH and skillfull... I suggest you to listen to Trains or something else by Steps Ahead (sessions /w Brecker) or Time In Place with Mike Stern!

  • Awesome! RIP Brother

  • cool

  • This is so amazing. I've been seriously thinking of forgetting the guitar and get a tenor sax since I found the greatness of M. Brecker few months ago.

  • YES!!!

  • Damn.

  • 5 million stars!!

  • Does anybody know what that string hanging from the neck of MIchael's sax is?

  • It is for a neck pickup in addition to the microphone...probably to use the wah wah without having feedback...

  • Greatest sax player of all time. RIP, Michael.

  • This is soooo funky!!!!!! I am so happy i strolled upon this!!!!

  • He managed to keep 4 choruses of unaccompanied Rhythm Changes in time.

O: <------This was my face literally

  • The Million Dollar Sound

  • i can watch this video over and over again and still love it

  • Towards teh end how does Brecker get those crazy sounds out of his sax? The sound quality is different. I can't tell what it is.

  • hes doing it electronically, manipulating the sound that goes into the mic. you can see that hes using his foot to press some pedals.

  • You mean at 8:00 ? Before 8:00 he uses an auto-wah effect or something like this on his microphone. Then after the lick juste before 8:00, he switches it off and just keeps his natural sound, the same sound he had in the begining of the cadenza.

  • DUKOFF !!!!! WOOO

  • where's randy?

  • Tanto Grazie!!!Per Postare ,

    Abraccio,

  • worlds strongest embourchure

  • Michael One of the truly great.

    I miss you so!

    RIP

  • SPEECHLESS !!!!!!!!

  • Sweet! I have this song on a cd -- "heavy metal bebop" -- what's amazing is that it sounds totally different, but equally cool in either place. It's a real testament to Mike's inventiveness and skill. I'm a musician and I think I can vouch for a lot of us when I say that during a solo on a given song, many of us rely on a pattern--sure we change it up--but if you listen to two solos side by side you can often hear a lot of similarity. Not so here. Hats off to you, Mike!

  • Mike COMPLETELY broke the color line that before him, only blacks could play with soul and play the blues. I'm glad.

Yo, lol. Bb rhythm changes at 2:12. NICE.

  • MICHAEL jordan... MICHAEL schumacher... MICHAEL jackson... MICHAEL phelps... and overall MICHAEL brecker... and more...

why did not my parents call me MICHAEL?

    * Mike Brecker is just ONE of a kind * R.I.P bros

  • Michael Winner??

  • WHAT THE FUCK 818 -825!!!! I need to know that pattern damn

  • miss him.....

    this great sax-player

  • i think around 7:45, thats like the coolest lick ever!!

  • WHAT!?!??!?!

  • Best sax player ever.

  • I don't know if he makes me want to practice or give up now.

  • agreed

  • seconded.

  • i'd say just give up

  • If Michael had thought that way, where would we be? I am pretty sure he would not sanction that notion.

  • @rockrhapsody123 Practice man!! :)

  • H U G E !!!

  • ca du groove mon ptit mike

  • WOOOOOW what a solo.

    what a KING.

  • Legendário! Michael será lembrado forever!!!

    Simplesmente The Best!
