this delicate version is wonderful ... but please take some to listen to the original bobby troup recording (1958) i just posted, ever so fragile and immaculate ...
Beautiful! Anything with the late great John Collins in gold. I studied with him in the early 70s. His knowledge of music and guitar was astounding. He was also a great person. Thank you so much for posting. Ron
This song is beautiful. We traveled Route 66 last year and paid our respects at the gravesite of Bobby and Julie and I saw this beautiful saying on the marker and now I know the story behind it. Thank you so much for sharing. What a talented and loving couple.
Thanks for posting your dad's AWESOME song....any idea during what time period he wrote it?...was it ever on an album of his?...I also presume the Four Freshman were first before Brian Wilson, in putting harmonies to this melody?....thanks in advance, Bruce
He wrote it in 1957. it was on his album "a class beyond compare" the Four Freshmen were before Brian Wilson. Brian wrote the lyrics to "a young man is gone"
Great, thanks so much for answering, going to try to see if I can get some of your dad's lp's on ebay...I have a Crosley machine that records my old Lp's to DVD, but still love having the original vinyl LP's!!...warm regards Bruce

simple and beautiful version - no SATB, no acapella- yet, who's to argue with the composer?

At the risk of stating the obvious, it might be good for those who see this and don't know it: Bobby Troup wrote this song.
