Bobby Sands was a Brit! He was voted into The British Parliament and by doing so became a British MP, He died for nothing, nearly 30 years on Northern Ireland still remains in the UK and all his legacy has left is his comrades conforming to British Rule and serving The Crown in Stormont.

Sands purposely targeted Protestant owned business's around the Dunmurry area from furniture stores to smaller shops, his team intimidated many of the Protestants that were initially living in Twinbrook and the surrounding area insuring it was Protestant Free, he endangered the lives of ordinary civillians, he was a sectarian thug and criminal, criminals should not be afforded certain rights whilst serving their sentence.

Sands was intimidated by Loyalist Paramilitaries and not Protestant Civillians, He and his cohorts chose to attack and intimidate many ordinary Protestant people, you say civillians shouldn't have been targeted so will you agree that this was criminal behavoir by Sands and co? BTW many working class Protestants were discriminated by the Unionist Government pre direct rule, I'm not making any excuses but this is fact and the CRM had many Protestants in it untill Republicans seen them off.

The point is they wanted to be treated as 'special' catagory prisoners, they would be exempt from carrying out 'ordinary' prison duties etc. They wern't being held as POW, they were jailed and being Punished for crimes such as murder, bombings, robberies and paramilitary activity, if your husband or child was murdered by someone would you want them to have special status? They knew what they were doing and they knew the consequences.

It has nothing to do with asking for release, they were tried and convicted for crimes they committed and given a sentence, who can a democracy be seen to be giving concessions to people that have broken the law, it makes no difference if you commit a crime as an individual or on behalf of a group, it is still crime and you have to be punished, why should have sands and his friends been treated differently?
