@Og3990 In India they use more traditional ones. They are very heavy, and although kettlebells (which I prefer to call by their native Russian name, girya) are similar to Indian clubs in that they are not fixed weights but rather weights that have their center of mass away from the handle, I personally prefer these babies. You might think they're one pound batons, but look at some of the suggestions. I doubt you won't take back every word you wrote.
@Og3990 Oh no, no need to apologize. I was just trying to explain that these are more Westernized versions of the traditional club. There are plenty of good ways to workout, the girya being a very good one, which is why I own and use one personally. On another note, if you also do girya workouts, it feels kind of uncomfortable when the girya slams into your wrist during a snatch. Any suggestions?
@marekiller8 google pavel's enter the kettlebell. He talks a lot about "taming the arc" when you snatch and swing. one thing that works for me is for my snatches I keep my wrist very straight and my grip a bit loose.
I want to get some of these! I especially like the motion at 1:15. Never seen that one before. Could this be done as a warm-up to weight training, or should it be done on an alternate day? Thanks!
hammers will probably work but be careful as they'll be less forgiving when you hit yourself or the two hammers together. The recommended weight for the club is 1lb.
Clubs are not just about strength - flexibility, range of motion, shoulder stability (rotator cuff; tendons and muscles), rhythm and timing, balancing left and right sides of the body and injury prevention. Indian Clubs are a very versatile tool!
Great job... very informative, where do you buy this clubbels? Clubbels like this are great rehabilitation tool for shoulders, do you know a good rehabilitation tool for the low back? I tried kettelbells but it did more harm than good...Thanks
@crowkiller106 I have never really used these but I would think you could. It may weigh only one pound but if you rotate them with a great deal of force it would be one hell of a workout.
@crowkiller106 lets be frank. the indian club training is great for keeping limber and flexible. if you are a martial artist that competes in full contact...i don't care how we americans try to sensationalize the shit...it's gonna be about basics. sparring, bag and mit work will never be replaced. want to be good at a combat sport...you don't spend most of your time swinging some damn clubs. do you see k-1, muay thai fighters doing this shit? NO...we americans love something NEW.
clubs in the video weigh one pound - a good weight to swing, especially at speed. I also have some 2 pounders for a change of pace. Start with the one's as they are the most versatile.
What's old is new again. We are only rediscovering what others have known about Indian Club training for hundreds of years. In this excellent video we find a wonderful example of advanced Indian Club swinging using light weight. Like a seasoned juggler the repertoire is rapid and complex but the subject makes it look easy. For timing and coordination the light weights are beneficial. For stamina and endurance as well as strength heavier weights would provide a paramount challenge. Great Job!
Agree. This looks like a clip from the MotionRX clubs swinging video. The instructor has been teaching it to people in the Army and martial artists for many years. Very interesting to watch and practice. Been doing it for some time, and shoulders feel great.
There is so much going on when you really watch the movement in these exercise that it is amazing for as simple as they appear to be. I think all of us "Baby Boomers" need to learn and practice this for joint mobility.
Excellent presentation. Thanks!

looks great but can you really build strength for martial arts with one pound weight?

@beturkish Plus, doing anything for a long period of time, regardless of the weight, is very tiring.
