  • Ah, asshole elitists, and I thought they all die down :"P

  • Well, there IS Mononobe's nice boat for the water part

  • you used imovie

  • I know what to expect, it's what makes the game more comfortable and not alien. Being a 1-man company I can forgive the reuse of some sprites. So long and the music and stages are fun, no complaints here.

  • Sakuya still not playable T_T

  • i lol'd at the

    Reimu hakurei (duh)

    marisa kirisame (duh2)

  • Oh, and I like Touhou, but I don't have an obsession, I see that pretty insane...

  • @98blasko Im not an fucking troll!!! the argument stopped. But then you started it again asshole.

  • @98blasko that means im smarter than you :)

  • You need some fucking theory, here you go.

    It will have six stages.

    The art will suck.

ZUN will use the same sprites that he always does.

All new characters will be female.

You will be able to play as Reimu, Marisa, and maybe someone else.

There, copy and paste that for every new Touhou game.

  • @OyVeey Okay, first of all, what's with all the hostility?

Secondly, the game's already been announced. It is called Ten Desires. The demo is available now.

Thirdly, I'd like to see you draw better than ZUN. Actually, I'd like to see you come up with something touhou-level popular out of nothing by yourself.

  • @LOZFFVII I came up with the internet, does that count?

    =O

  • @LOZFFVII PWNED,em!

  • @LOZFFVII I just have to say it's pretty hilarious you say "out of nothing" when about 90% or Touhou things are based of other stuff and legends and what not. >_>

  • @saiyoucho Yes.

What I meant by 'out of nothing' was that he built the gameplay, the self-contained story and the music out of nothing.

To put it simply: Touhou didn't exist before ZUN came along. Therefore, he created Touhou 'out of nothing'.

    QED.

I'm writing a fantasy story that revolves around Tarot cards, this story has never been written before, therefore this story is 'created from nothing'.

  • @LOZFFVII Actually, a lot of the music is based on other music too. And the gameplay has existed in overall in lots of other games before it too.

It is however true that Touhou itself didn't exist before. But it has been created by lending lots of pieces from many different places. Not saying that is a bad thing though.

  • @OyVeey Well duh.. technically 7 stages, and a few touhou games had way more than 6 The art is awesome in touhou 13, just look at a demo, same sprites? bullshit.. although I do admit 12 and 11 did better, ok Isnt it obvious? pfft.

  • @OyVeey If you're so hostile to the series, why come to the videos? Leave us Touhou fans alone, you annoying troll.

  • @SamusAran627 I hold no disdain for the Touhou series. I hold disdain for people who seriously care about the plot of something that is about as predictable and shallow as Lucky Star.

  • @OyVeey That's the problem right there. The fact is, it ISN'T predictable. In each one, there are new characters, and they always have different spellcards. You're trying to omit the gameplay factor entirely. That and, the plot is different with every game. In no way is it as predictable as Lucky Star.

  • @renjidude97 How fascinating.

  • @OyVeey Wow I sure snapped there. I mean touhou IS my soft-spot anyway.

  • @renjidude97 When a game that's so innocuous can cause such fierce emotions, I wonder about both the game and the mental health of its fans.

  • @OyVeey my obsession goes farther actually

  • @OyVeey Just about anything that appears online these days can create a fandom. I wouldn't take it out on the franchise, just the fans that take things too seriously.

    For example:

I don't get the whole Mac vs Windows thing. I'm currently using a Macbook pro; it does everything I could possibly want it to, but there aren't many games for mac, so I have a Windows partition on my hard drive. It just makes sense to me to do that, I wouldn't say one is better over the other.

  • @OyVeey An exception to my previous rule: Justin Bieber.

  • @renjidude97 Dude, calm down.

  • @LOZFFVII I dropped it. but someone else didn't

  • @LOZFFVII Im okay now :) almost....

  • @renjidude97 Dude, I have those days too. Well, that's everyday except today. *Brings out internet beer* Cheers to recovery.

  • @msh11201996 :3 yup

  • @OyVeey how can you hate on touhou, you just suck.

  • @BakaofLulz I don't like Japanophiles in general, but anything that inspires such slavish devotion in fans kind of freaks me out.

Just look at renjidude97's comment. There's something wrong with the Touhou fanbase if an innocuous troll comment like mine can provoke such levels of anger. That's why I stopped playing Touhou (well, that and all the stupid "my magical girlfriend can beat your magical girlfriend" threads on MotK ).

And as shmups go, I much prefer Dragon Blaze and Crimzon Clover.

  • @OyVeey i must admit, those threads do suck :/

  • @OyVeey You spelled "Crimson" wrong.

  • @TheUraneth

ZUN spelled "Fairy" wrong in Fairy Wars :P

Crimzon clover is a doujin bullet hell game made by a one-man developer like ZUN. It's more like a classic shmup than a flying-person shmup, but it's still an amazing game. Just watch a video of it, you'll like it.

It has a really impressive-looking Break Mode that functions like Trance Mode in TD, and the ship has lock-no lasers.

  • @OyVeey Just checked it. It surely has impressive graphics, and audio and menus are appropiate for a shmup. but I don't really like it cos it has a concept of "bullet hell" I don't like. In CC my own fire covers the screen, I can't even see the enemy bullets. I like Touhou style because of that, I prefer my bullets to be more... discrete.

  • @TheUraneth

That's understandable. I didn't have any problems with my fire covering bullets - they're the top graphical layer, I think - but the shower of point stars makes it hard to see.

At least you looked. That's more adventurous than many Touhou fans are willing to be.

  • @OyVeey I'd be lying if I say that the moe factor doesn't affects me, but that doesn't disallow me to do an objective analysis of other shmups. After all, I started playing typical shmups with overpowered-planes, and discovered Touhou much later.

  • @OyVeey 1. Five stages makes the game feel a tad too short, and seven too long.

    2. How, exactly?

    3. I'd like to see proof

    4. Yeeeeah, because a male character is going to make this series SO MUCH BETTER

    5. Reimu's been the main character of the series since HRtP, and Marisa's awesome. At least ZUN doesn't make it Reimu, Sakuya, and Marisa EVERY FUCKING TIME.

So anyway, I'd like to see just how your thought was working on that.

  • @OyVeey You suck.

  • @TouhouTV I'm actually quite good with the genre, but I got tired of Touhou a while ago.

Yes, I know that's not the sense of suck that you meant. I just get frustrated that the Touhou fanbase cares so much about the story when it's really quite inconsequential and formulaic.

  • @OyVeey troll....dickface...etc.

  • Not even mentioning the tournament fighter-style game are you?

  • @Astrenar What tournament fighter-style game?

    Do you mean 7.5, 10.5 and 12.3?

  • @LOZFFVII Pretty sure those are the ones i mean, I'm still a bit new to being an actual touhou fan, but because of those fighter games are how i was introduced to the series. I don't think you can just write those off. Unless of course I'm an idiot and you DID mention those and I didn't notice.

  • @Astrenar I didn't include them.

The simple reason being the same reason why they are given decimal numbers.

They're not a part of the 'main' series of games. They are canonical, don't get me wrong on that, but they're not Danmaku shooters. This is why I didn't count them. They're also some of my favourite games, but purely for the reason that they are the only games I can play on Normal without getting my arse handed to me on a platter (apart from Lotus Land Story).

  • @LOZFFVII Oh okay i get it now.

  • @LOZFFVII they are canon with the series AND ZUN intended for them to be included that way.

Suika was introduced in 7.5 for instance, and she's popped up (or at least been mentioned) many times since then in shooters, mangas, etc.

If you don't consider the fighters as part of the series, you take away a whole piece of the touhou story.

  • @Neherazade *sigh*

    Please pay attention.

I didn't include the fighting games for the simple reason that they are fighting games and not danmaku shooters.

They are canon, they are a part of the story and they are a part of the series.

BUT this video only considers the games that are given INTEGER numbers, if I was to include decimal numbers my theory would make no sense whatsoever, especially with the inclusion of 12.3, 12.5 and 12.8.

  • @LOZFFVII I think those are the ones, I've been too lazy to reinstall these games since i got my new computer so far (Partly because I'm not entirely sure where to get them since when i got them before it was from a link a friend gave me to megaupload) so I can't really check. But it's not like those games "Didn't happen" right?

  • @Astrenar BTW, if you want, I can give you a link to a website that has links to download all of the touhou games (including PC-98), including ISO files for most.

The webpage also has links to download some of the fangames.

  • @LOZFFVII That would be cool, thanks.

  • Well, you were right about Kogasa

I still can't believe Yuyuko is stage 1 boss, though...

  • @FlandreScarlet3 Yuyuko as a stage 1 boss was the biggest surprise in the demo.

I think the fact that Kogasa made a return appearance was just ZUN's idea of a joke - namely the fact that her ability is the ability to surprise others.

  • Demo for Ten Desires is out.

Go have your orgasms, we don't care.

  • Phantasmagoria of Flower View was easy.

  • @MattieTheRagePiss It was easy (apart from the extra stage) but that wasn't the point - I found it a genuinely fun game to play. That's why I'd like to see another Phantasmagoria.

  • i have a theory for the next phntasmagoria...i see in the 2 phantasmagoria there is a poltergeist in both games...i think 1 of the bosses in touhou ten desires will be a poltergeist...

  • @excalibursystem Maybe a reincarnation of Layla?

  • @kensaya that's a good idea

  • Cant wait for touhou 13 to be released! (ZUN rules!!! =D)

  • @GRADIUS5fan A demo should be getting released this Sunday (Reiteisai 8, 13/03/11), if you can't wait.

  • I dont want Mima though. That would mean 1 less new character.

  • please kogasa or sakuya.

  • Reimu,Marisa,Sanae,Youmu

    Touhou 13 :D

  • Awww that sucks and all the effort you put into that theory! *pats on back*

  • @Pixxa0659 Eh, I don't mind as long as there is a TH13. I'm a little disappointed it isn't a Phantasmagoria, though.

  • A lot of people think Mima will be in the next game.

  • @Pixxa0659 With a theme of 'Divine Spirits' I wouldn't be surprised if a certain Evil Spirit made a return, but I'm not expecting anything. As much as I am a fan of Mima, I have to agree with ZUN that suddenly making a character return and be all like "lol, hei gaiz I woz heer the hoel tym!" would be a bit difficult for the newer fans to understand/appreciate.

  • Thumbs up solely for this bit: "All that matters to me is that this will be the first game I actually purchase, rather than download for free."

  • Cross you finger, I HOPE MIMA IS BACK!!!!

  • Touhou 13 has been announced today, with four playable characters (the three from UFO + Youmu) and the spellcard practice mode. It's kind of looking a bit similar to IN at this point, but there's just not enough info.

  • @Shintear Huh.

Thanks for the heads up (furthermore, thank you for not being a troll either).

I guess my theory is just a load of clap trap now, right?

  • @LOZFFVII Your theory was good though because of the "elements" part :P

  • @FactoryHeadNoland I can't claim credit for that - someone else noticed that before me.

  • that was a good theory...but...the first phantasmagoria was touhou 3...and the next was touhou 9...but...it could be a phantasmagoria or a Danmaku one

  • @excalibursystem Yeah, the theory I made ignores the PC-98 games to an extent. I was really only focusing on the Windows series - I think the original Phantasmagoria was just a experiment at the time to create a 'different' danmaku shooter anyway, because it seems to sit awkwardly amongst the other PC-98 games.

Perhaps ZUN was going through an experimental phase at the time.

  • @LOZFFVII yeah...that's true...touhou 3 was an experiment...a good experiment...xD...i want touhou 13 NOW!...i was waiting 5 months...T_T
