Well , can do circles around the 109 forever so yes stay in the horizontal. As for the on your 6' there are many different manoeuvers. Trick em do anything you can. Just do not make easy shots for him, such as flying straight . I find decreasing speed and "drifting" ( using rudder ) combined with making small turns helps him overshoot. Google "Combat Aerial Maneuvers" or however its spelt and study it . You'll get it eventually.
Question... I know against more agile foes the spit's best option is to fight in the vertical, but what about the bf 109? Keep the fight in the horizontal, right?
And what do you do if an opponent manages to get firmly on your 6? I can never seem to shake them, they just grab on and don't let go...
If you're flying the 109, keep him going vertical. You can climb, he can turn. If you can't outturn the spitfire, dont try, just keep the ball on your court and make him climb. Vice versa when flying the spitfire. Make him turn. If you're in a spitfire and fighting something more agile, well then you need to find your opponents weakness. Sometimes other planes are just going to have better characteristics than yours. Outfly them.
