Hey, are you seeing the screen at 0:49? That is the screen where all the drivers for safe mode are loaded. Wait a few minutes for them to load, and it should automatically start the OS up.

your hal.dll file which is needed for the pc to start up is gone for some reason your best option is to get a windows xp install cd and reformat your hard drive and reinstall windows. then it will work normally

i see what your problem is press CTRL+SHIFT+ESC then task manager should open when its open go down to the bottom and click new task. then type the following:

C:\WINDOWS\Explorer.exe then everything should start to load as normal and you can close the documents window if you want

Click the start button > go to Run > type in MSCONFIG.exe.

In the General tab under Startup Selection, make sure you have selected Normal Startup - load all drivers and services only.

Then navigate to the BOOT.INI tab, and look at the bottom left Boot Options. Make sure those are all unchecked.

Try this and tell me if it works!

It's intended so that sound does not load in Safe mode.

Just boot up your computer normally and you'll have the sound back.

Yea, I have autorun spyware that keeps changing important registries! Had to reinstall Vista. This didn't get rid of anything!!! It moved all my old files into the c: drive under Windows.old. That was stupid because it again, copied itself to my C: drive. The only way to stop it was to reinstall windows, and boot in safe mode to delete Windows.old before it could copy itself. I still don't know if it is gone because it was a system configeration file. I don't know if it booted during safe mode.

You probably can run some basic games in Safe mode, but none of the modern ones we see today, since many drivers required by game are not started in safe mode (like directX).

Safe mode is really something used for solving problems like malware or screen errors, not for general usage.

It depends how severe your BSOD problem is. Usually, you can fix Blue screen of deaths by reformating or reinstalling the registries.

You can try using registry cleaners - they wipe out some of the errored registries that reside in your computer.

Also,there is a difference between System Restore and System Recovery. The restore uses restore points made at different times, usually when a large change is applied to the system (E.g installing a program)These are typically larger in size, but they vary.

The system recovery is similar, except it only saves the windows components. This means that it doesn't save all your personal files, including favorites, documents, programs, etc.

And do you mean reformating your computer without the CD?

Another difference is system restore can only be used if windows is bootable in either normal mode or safe mode. It can't work if you've screwed the files up to the point where windows cant start up anymore. This is where system recovery comes in.
