Great thing, this recorder is compatible with SD cards (with adapter) - do not use Kensington Cards though, they are very low quality and create dropouts in high resolution recordings.
Cons: eats batteries... I have never experienced 4-6 hour battery life during recording.
XLR's are a little noisy depending on mics - noise improves when using an external phantom supply with a condenser mic - shows the unit must have some sort of ground issue?
I have this unit, Marantz claims to have enhanced the preamps, but they are too noisy for dynamic or ribbon mics. Not as clean as my Mackie mixer. If ur looking for better portable sound for the same money, check out the Roland R44 or the Fostex FR-2LE. For 1k u can do better.
Thank you for a most informative review, which helped me make-up my mind to purchase one of these machines. (Could have been longer though) As an aside I found the 'musak' which accompanied the speech to be both intrusive AND irritating. Why spoil the presentation with that awful, awful noise?
This is a two track recorder, if you want to record multitrack, you need to get a multitrack recorder. You could use a mixer and mix four mics down to 2 tracks and recorder with the 671 but you lose control to remix after the event.

Nice Audio-Technica stereo mic. I am outraged that they discontinued these, the AT825.
