1-althought it doesn t install right .. it will install some drivers for the camera and AS of then you will be able to CAPTURE in 1080i without any issue on adobe premier pro ... cs5 .. .
i finally got it to work hope it helps some of you guys
ps i can t capture anything with canon console but adobe premier pros cs5 works like a charm (and remember when you capturing you will only see the image on your CAMCORDER but controls will work perfect on the software on your PC) peace!
@C4n4di4n1 Hey i have a problem with capturing with my xh a1. I film my stuff in 50i but when i capture it in 50i it goes back to 25f whats wrong with it? thanks
are you capturing with premier pro ? when you first open your file in premier pro the settings of the PROJECT is probably your probleme ... open a new blank project and capture it from there with the CORRECT PROJECT SETTING in your case 50i ... if your already doing that right ... did you try getting that old software from canon called CANON CONSOLE ? ... i got it in some torrents the software is useless .. BUT when you install it it also installs drivers that FIXED ALL MY ISSUES reply me np
@C4n4di4n1 Yeah im doing that, capturing in premire cs5. Ive put it into after effects and it still says 25f even though i shot it at 50i, is this supposed to happen?
if any of you are still having the probleme capturing with the hx a1 canon .. if it only captures in 480i and not 1080i on adobe premier pro cs5 PC ... this is how i finaly was able to capture in 1080i and the image is incredible
1- you need to find and install canon console (its a software made by canon) to capture ... now i m running on win 7 and it didn t install properly BUT win 7 will promt you and ask you if you want to reinstall using the correct setting or juste remove it click instal
hi everyone! if someone can help me please!...when i send the final sequence to the camera (canon Xh A1) it only passes sound, no image..thank you very much
I figured it out after a bit of research. I had the same problem too. you need to change some settings so your camera will detect the HD format... because Final Cut Pro default settings are for standard defintion DV. Send me an email @ Corey@CoJaxMedia.ca and i'll give you the steps to settings up your FC
Hey Andy I hope you can help me.. I am trying to set on the menu (PLAYBACK STD) TO HDV but its turned off in the menu, other words I cant change that setting, can you help
In manual there is written that if the camcorder cannont be recognized/there is no connection by the PC please restart the camcorder and and the PC and then plug in Fire wire. So it means that camcorder can be turn on.
It was written in polish manual and I translated the meaning that is in polish manual.
This camera will work with a mac or pc on any any non-linear editor, you just have to set up your editor properly in order for it to respond. I had the same problem with my hv30 with FCP6, but it only took a few minutes of changing around some settings for it to capture. Do your research and I'm sure you'll make it work
BUT WHAT if you're shot a mix of 30 and 60i???? What do you do then? ??? Stop and do it again??? Must be an easier way? Please help - get my Canon twm with FCE4 (I know it doesn't handle 24p).
i had the problem then I played around in final cut express and i went to easy setup and put the setting on apple intermediate codec 720p30 and it worked
Some camcorders, especially Canon it seems, have trouble with capturing. There is a capture utility called hdvsplit, you can google it. I haven't tried it yet but I think this weekend I'll download it, because my Movie Studio Platform won't capture HDV, only DV. Curiously, Corel-ULead will capture without any problem; I just prefer the Vegas NLE.
Frustrating to have a camcorder and it balks at the last step.
Do not plug the XH A1 directly into your machine's integrated firewire port. Plug an external firewire hard drive into the computer then daisy chain your camera into the hard drive. Canon's firewire implementation in this camera is flawed at best.
I noticed that you plugged that firewire cable in while the camera was on. You have a big chance of frying your connection when you do that. Turn camera off, plug in cord, then turn back on. Open FCP only after all connections have already been made.
I noticed you couldn't figure out the problem 5 months ago, but in a comment you said 2 months ago, buying another cable fixed the problem.
I have this same EXACT problem and I was wondering if buying a cable actually solved it...?? =D
I sent my camera to Canon and just got it back today and they said everything was okay. so i'm hoping they're not stupid and it really is just a CABLE PROLLEM!?!?!
Under VCR mode go to MENU (when its disconnected from the firewire cable, select SIGNAL SETUP, switch PLAYBACK to HD, and set hd downconversion to OFF
@martintreestump you figure out the problem man.............thank you so much homie................... to bad your account is no longer activated i wanted to personally thank you with a message............ salute
Just called Canon. I was told that if it is flashing then it is possible a bad firewire port. I still have warranty, so I am sending my off to the doctor tomorrow.
I now know its a problem with the firewire, because when i push the cable (which is connected to the camcorder) slightly to the right, I can capture normally! So I have to hold it there, while I capture :P
it cant recognize it because your setting is wrong, i believe

Sell the camera, buy a new computer and play Crysis instead...Maximum Strength!!

if "HDV/DV IN" is blinking doesn't that mean that the camera and the computer aren't talking?

Capture with Premiere Pro from XHA1 don't work. I'll test it with hdvsplit, and I can capture HDV now!

@OompieDaan hey so how did you capture your video did you not use PP for your XHA1
BrooklynNYC777 1 year ago
@BrooklynNYC777 No, I don't use PP for capturing HD, it doesn't work. Just use HDVSplit, you can download it for free. Easy to use, good results!

@OompieDaan premiere pro cs5 brings in HD just fine........... i figure it out
also thank you for your advice with the HDVsplit

Hope this helps!!

Thanks for the reply, but it did not help :(
When I tried your suggestion, i got the following message: "Unable to locate the following external device: HDV (1440 x 1080) 25p"
I tried to connect my camcorder to my PC, and it dident work there either. The problem is in the cable or in the camera.

@Andyax Sounds like you are shooting in DV and not HDV. This is exactly what happens when you do that.
