  • omg is same with alice cooper

  • This guy isnt just a great guitar player he is an artist. He writes great songs and has so much passion for what he does and thats why he's one of my favorites

  • omg i think the same way he does when it comes to music and fantasy shit lol

  • He is handsome and pure, great musician!

  • i think his the best and its handsome

  • Steve is awsome great player and great person only to a few people will understand!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • We all have special gifts, but not everybody has the nerve, or courage, to do anything with it. am i crazy or is that the most bitchin advice for any human being?

  • Steve is the real deal.

He inspired me to keep recording after I became disabled...and met up with me 3 years later after I completed my song.

He is genuinely a great human being: down to Earth, humble, gracious.

Actually, my friend Vernon (Living Colour) told me Steve was the most humble guitarist on the Experience Hendrix tour they did together!

Every Steve Vai piece of music contains a little piece of his heart and soul.

  • This interview just made me get off the computer to start practicing harder.

  • I used to love his (Eddies) gibson explorer guitar, i wish he'd have played that a bit more, anyway, back to vai......

  • @guitdude09 EVH is playing his Ibanez Destroyer in the clip in this vid. He stopped using it because he didn't like the tone after he cut a chunk out of it --that shark fin cut behind the bridge.

  • @WatsonMusic yeah i heard that he cut the back out, i just miss the look of that guitar haha.

  • Steve vai is SOOOOOO SEXY!!!!!!!!

  • yeah nobody left that alcatrazz gig because they were probably stunned that someone could actually compare.

  • 15 hours a day? how the hell does he manage that???

  • Better yet lets dedicate 1:02 to the dislikers.

  • This was more than 20 years ago, he's 51 now. How different does he look?

  • @CyValkarion He was sexy then and he is still sooooooooo sexy today.

  • how did he know joe satriani (it doesnt mention it in the vid but he took guitar lessons from him when he was much younger_

  • @hobiehippo

i don't think vai took lessons from satch. i know hammet took lessons from satch. but for all i know vai did.

  • @kaboose111 He did. He actually gained significant commercial recognition before Joe, and it was his raving review of him as a teacher in his first interview that contributed to Joe's wider recognition.

  • @kaboose111 Vai took lessons from Satch for years, they are both from the same place, Carle Place Long Island

  • wat is this song

  • @SuperBobo228 the first song with david lee roth is "yankee rose"

  • @lordriger amen

  • 10-15 hours a day? imagine if he'd gotten 63 in a day like JP!

  • Comment removed

  • They just do their own thing, thats whats cool about them!

  • nobody clapped, but nobody left. pwned.

  • Steve is a god.

  • @Eddie3890 that's also why I like Mark Tremonti. Mind you, I think they both let their egos loose on stage, but thankfully they leave em there.

  • lets dedicate 0:48 to the 38 dickheads that disliked!

  • @metaldudeupnorth let´s add a 1:02 to that 0:48 to those 38 dickheads that disliked!

  • @godgodgodzilla Roth's balls and Vai's middle fingre... lol goodbye haters :D

  • @metaldudeupnorth lol, fuck yeah Steve, give em the bird!:)

  • Vai is just the coolest guy, he's like I would imagine Jesus to be, full of love and passion, kinda looks like Him too a little, I think. A lot of musicians are and seem stuck up but Steve is true to his nature, he's an approachable caring guy and a cool dude, on top of being one of histories best guitarists and best musicians in general, and it's true, when he plays he has a little quirky funny kind of thing with his facial expressions and movements and incorporates them into his playing! : )

  • i have passion to listen to the album right now.

  • Hot hot hot. I remember watching this live as it came on tv...I was hooked instantly. Needless to say I have his name tattooed on my back!

  • steve is right, is something between chemical and intuition!

  • What's more....Eric Sardinas was fucking awesome at that gig!! Maybe Vai was pissed.....??

  • Me and my best friend met him backstage in Manchester, he was touring with Eric Sardinas! We'd seen him and Satch twice before that on the G3 tours in England. My best friend was obsessed with all things Vai, and waited a year to meet the guy, but when we met him he was a complete asshole!! Arrogant, rude and short tempered, my friend completely binned everything Vai after that, and even sold his custom Ibanez axe!! He even seemed to be shitty with Sardinas offstage

  • Damn, Steve vai was hot !

  • @twinzo123 He still is <3

  • this is what I called a genuine modesty.

he's an undoubtedly godlike guitar player and still modest.

  • yngwie is arrogant

  • @GBAVTE Could't agree more.

  • @GBAVTE Couldn't agree with you more

  • God I love that man,Steve Vai is the best and I'll take him over Malmsteen anytime. He is so inspiring and so is his music,I've never ever heard anything from him I didn't like.

  • @Vailover4ever steve vai thinks tommy emmanuel is the best

  • steve is better than eddie, hes just being modest... its likwe when you grow up and you are being compared with one of your fav. guitarists thats always inspired you and you are being asked whos better. you would say the other guitarist

  • MTV sux now

  • Vai is truly an Inspiration...

  • Steve vai , should thanks Malmsteen for the great career

  • @MichaelJacksonSpin back in the day I think more people had heard of Steve from Guitar Player magazine than had heard of Malmsteen. In fact Steve having transcribed Black Star for Guitar Player probably helped Malmsteen a shit load more than being in Alcatrazz helped Vai. Either way, they both made guitar history on their own terms.

  • @MichaelJacksonSpin Thank him? Why? Vai REPLACED Malmsteen.

  • I just LOVE Steve Vai! He is so cool.

  • he is just SHOWING OFF.he shows off his beastly talent

  • what is the song at the beginning?

  • @CGLmusic it's yankee rose by david lee roth

  • 3:53 anybody know about conspiracy theory?

  • is yngwie playing a strat upside down @1:27?

  • @GuitarMaster5155 I think he sometimes strings a left-handed guitar upside down, sort of an homage to one of his heroes, Jimi Hendrix, who played a right-handed strat left-handed.

  • I especially liked 0:14

  • 36 people listen to justin bieber

  • Thank you for posting this! I remember the day Passion and Warfare came out...I RAN over to Tower Records and screamed "YES!!!" when I saw that Blue Powder was on the album!

Intuition...the key that unlocks The Truth. It's so wonderfully obvious that you are playing from your intuition--your music is so purely true and beautiful. No note is arbitrary...it is all good! Jaya!

  • man im a guitar player too!! and you really inspired me a lot!! your guitar playing is so unique, i have a original project at BBUTEO channel and i live for it

  • 1:01 Pelvic Thrust!!!

  • @ZigZag802 WOOOOOO!

  • The Muse speaks.... and Steve listens.

  • I don't think he's received the critical acclaim in the popular media that he deserves as one of the best guitarist but people who know guitars know how much Steve jams and his level of talent.

  • @zzsql

Absolutely. Its really a shame, but FAR too many people don't know who Steve Vai is.

  • One of my favourite guitarists of all time. its amazing what hes done in the last 20 years.

  • Little did he know, he would surpass them all.

  • well im going to just say this please dont get pissed at me but comparing guitar players are stupid when you think about it because it 100% your opinion no matter who you campare and when someone doesnt agree with you you get mad or they do plane and simple you cant campare two diffrent people from two diffrent familys who live two diffrent worlds sorry love steve vai and also love evh !!!!

  • ah ah people always compare great guitarists to EVH but curiously he is never the better in the comparaison...

    nonsense !

the truth is that Eddie is always compared with others because he is the absolute REFERENCE

I'm a fan of Steve anyway but open your eyes blind men, and accept the truth once and for all

  • @lightnessss Thanx for shedding this bright light on the Eddie van halen vs all other great guitarists! Hands down on your comment here!

  • 0:20 "I started playing the organ at a very early age"

    LOL me too Stevie

  • god the 80s were gay

  • @stitcha123 no they werent.

  • @rickyjshiznit lol, yes, they were.

  • @stitcha123 no they werent, they fucked literally thousands of women. how is that gay?

  • @rickyjshiznit firstly, i doubt vai fucked thousands of women. and secondly....im not being literal. im not saying theyre actually homosexual and fancy men im just sayi......oh fuck it, ur too retarded to chat to.

  • @stitcha123 im sure vai has fucked atleast a thousand hes been a very well known guitarist for over 30 years... and he was in david lee roth AND whitesnake. also, how am i retarded? is it because i gave you a perfectly acceptable reason why the 80's werent gay and you couldnt think of anything clever to say?

  • @rickyjshiznit a well known guitarist for yes, but has been married for many if not all of those. i suggest u find out about steve vai before commenting on him sweetheart. i find it laughable you cannot view 1.02 and not have a laugh at the gay 80s. lyrca? big hair? well gay. awesome though.... and as for your 'perfectly acceptable reason' for the 80s not being gay being the the members of these bands probably fucked thousands of women - yup gotta hand it to u, ur a fucking idiot.

  • @stitcha123 as "gay" as you want to call the 80's, you can't deny that was pretty much the beginning for hard rock and metal alike.

  • @WhySoSerious55555 ohhhhhhhh yes. i dunno i guess id stretch to arguably the two bands with the most clout in the rock industry, acdc n black sabbath, so perhaps pre 80s. i love how literal eveyone has taken my comment, by 'gay' i dont mean every man was a homosexual. i mean the lycra, the tight pants, the big hair, the make up, the synth, the cheesy rock faces.....lol GAY!!!!!!! but good gay. once again i point you to 1.06 - 1.08. hehe

  • @stitcha123 yup. Hard to believe that was the style, isn't it?

  • @WhySoSerious55555 crazy dude, crazy.

  • @stitcha123

    your mom is gay

  • @EMOHOLACAWST yes yes, quite.

  • The think i've noticed about Steve vai is that he doesn't sound like blues, he makes the guitar sound like nothing i've ever herd before

  • love how he gives props to EVH...but really wtf has EVH done in the last 15 years that is worth mentioning? ...and this is coming from a EVH fan from the early 80's

  • nice speech

  • the singer looks like a true fag

  • @Hoshang2 i'm pretty sure that's David Lee Roth, google him. i think he's had some success, you noob!

  • @tranesonic Mr Transfaggot, even if hes had success , he still acts like a...fag. Pretty sad for a rocker...

  • @Hoshang2 Do you even remember the 80s? you clown? oh, no, you don't. you're from fucking germany! that explains everything. haha!

  • @Hoshang2 erm... ever met him? After you have, you can tell me what he's really like :)

  • @Hoshang2 why should some act a certain way because they play guitar a certain way. i could be mistaken but isnt rock about not giving a fuck and just having a good time doing what you love?

  • @6Immortal6Fears6 i menat david lee roth..not steve vai

  • @Hoshang2 LMAO then forget my comment sorry man

  • @6Immortal6Fears6 shit happens (quoting Predator 2)

  • at 3:00 the man has to be so respected to say that about edward van halen

  • the cross earrings... thats so rock n roll

  • haha steve hasn't changed a bit in 20 years!

  • yup. hes amazing.

  • LOL vai is better than eddy

  • Ha Vai has come a long way

  • daa

  • steve vai is probably the easiest guy to interview ever, you could ask him - "whats your favorite color?" and hed go into a ten minute, intellectual answer, of course that's awesome though.

  • omg steve is super intelligent. really knows how to express himself not only with a guitar but with words too :)

damn id be like duuuuuuh... xD

  • You are the best man.....I am of Brazil, and...eu não tenho palavras para descrever o quanto vc é bom, sou seu fã e é isso ae, vlw...

  • how can 34 people not like this?

  • @MajorRochey because i bet they listen to crap hmmm rap**

  • @MajorRochey Always same comment haha like it

  • @MajorRochey because their cunts! :D

  • @MajorRochey they are jealous

  • @MajorRochey How can ANYONE not like this

  • @MajorRochey cus he sounds like a douche

  • @MajorRochey because the world is round, and they are fags

  • @MajorRochey Probably all that 19Gayties footage of the Roth video.

  • @MajorRochey I know right lol

  • @MajorRochey

    Different oppinion's i guess. :)

  • i love it when musicians sound like philosophers...

  • @ialvarez357 Steve Vai can do whatever the hell he wants. The man will rape you with his solos, and you will love every minute of it.

  • @ialvarez357 He could be one.

He recorded for the love of god by fasting one week and recorded it on the 4th day.

  • he looks like a female version of julia roberts

  • @yourdairyman He is very pretty.

  • Three things that changed my musical life. Album Tatllica MOP in 87, Vai Passion and warfare '91 and DT Images & Words '94

  • guitar god, guitar virtuoso, this man is creative and doesn´t like to compete, he is famous because he is talented

  • he seems to be humble and not self absorbed and realizes no one is the "best" in the art world

  • this is one of my favorite "vai" moments. i remember watching this and say wow I want to play better

  • Frank Zappa.

  • EVH RULES.

  • Steve Vai Shits on Eddy

  • Steve.check out my crosses.

  • Damn that frontman is as gay as the cows come home.

Shovin ya mound infront of the cam. What the feck?

  • @ExtremeBogom sadly, that isn't a man. :( hahaha jk but it was hard to tell in some of this eighties stuff

  • He got alcatrazz's set down in one day?!

  • great Spirit!

  • Ahhhhh, so thats how you pronounce Ywngie's name, I thought it was like Ying - wi

  • great interview...

  • that was one intelligent interview..

    modest and intelligent..

  • I love Steve Vai!

  • "I would be a fool if I tried to compete with the people I replaced"

  • Very introspective.

  • 10-15 hrs a day?....wuhhT!~.wer'd u get ur enrgy from?LOL

  • everything he says is quotable

  • nice to see this video, Vai was/is a huge inspiration to me, almost every song off P&W is a classic! I like what he said too, he tries to be original and not copy anyone, very nice Steve, hope to meet you one day and get a lesson. :)

  • Attitude is as great as his talent.

  • It was the other way around Jason Becker filled in for Steve after steve left roth to do other projects

  • Khankir pola ra chup thak

  • wow people had gay outfits back then pause at 1:02

  • I think Jason Becker was supposed to be Roth's guitar player but he got ALS and they got Steve to fill in. Steve's the man!!!

  • Almost, Becker recorded an album with Diamond Dave and noticed his hands were getting weaker and weaker, so he couldn't do the tour, and eventually his whole body succumbed to the disease, which is a shame.

  • Not the player...........but the "guitar" came a very long, long way. Since Buddy Holly, Chuck Berry, Mr. Gibson..etc.....I remember when Eddie Van Halen did the Eruption solo, I was very intimidated. The solo to Beat It by Michael Jackson blew me away. That was then. Now, today, those solos are like child's play compared to what guitarists are doing today with the instrument. Personally I think the most innovative is the Guitarist in Rage Against The Machine. PERIOD.

  • Love David Lee Roth, but good lord did he remind of that guy from the death metal cartoon. The "Rock n roll clown".

    Cool interview though.

  • wow.. he's pretty good lookin in this vid. lol. i love steve vai, just listening to him talk inspires me. i must say his music and just the way he plays makes me wanna go pick up my guitar and play my heart and soul out.

  • I'm sorry but I think that Steve Vai is the fucking man enough said best guitar player I've ever seen and I've been playing for 16 year's

  • alot of these guitarist like these guys know it each other and play each other WE JUST DONT SEE THAT SIDE

  • actually eddie van halen and steve vai are very good friends as zake wilyd

  • О чем собственно идет - разговор-то?!

Эдди и Стив - музыканты абсолютно разного уровня, как возрастного, так и стилевого.

Стиву - огромный респект за, то, что он сделал!

  • if u think eruption sucked then u my friend dont know jack shit about good music, although i do think steve vai is better than eddie van halen, both of them have different styles

  • He was much better than EDDIE VAN HALEN !!!

The Eruption Guitar Solo SUCKS !

Adnoydal DUTCH Guitarist & Professional DOUCHBAG

  • @learn2strum WAS? LOL

  • Nobody clapped, but nobody left.

    LOL

  • This Guy Inspired Me To Learn How To Play Guitar

  • なまらカッケーなっ!

  • Steve Vai seems very intellectual. You have to appreciate someone who hasn't let drugs fuck up his brain and still having that much talent.

  • @336kgf Drugs are like the dark side to musicians... they are the quickest route to playing emotionally, but they have horrible repercussions.

  • I must admit, I never knew how smart he actually was until I saw this interview. I'm a HUGE Satriani fan, but I think I may buy a Vai CD to hear how good he actually sounds. To be honest, if it wasn't for Vai, I doubt if I would care what David Lee Roth sounded like as a solo artist.

  • @336kgf If you're only buying one album, buy passion and warfare. IMO it's one of the best albums ever made.

  • @336kgf i agree

  • @336kgf Well except all the Satanic references on his album cover of Passion and Warfare :/
