We do these for the homeless shelter in our town. we use plastic grocery bags from various stores and also do the single crochet or double crochets 3 to 3 1/2 feet wide by 6 feet tall. we have a group project. Some folks make the plarn and some crochet. Works great as a project for the whole church.
@HisGoodGirl25 It's literally a bag that holds milk, as opposed to a carton or plastic bottle. I think they have a reusable pitcher they fit into to make for easy pouring.
@Yrhelper, just saw another video regarding these plastic sleeping mats. They were making theirs 3 ft wide by 6-6 1/2 ft tall. Lady said whatever size you think would be wide & tall enough. She also showed the finish product w/handle straps so it'll be easier to carry around.
Has anyone begun this for the homeless of America? How about those "put out?" What size do you aim for with these mats? Are "milk bags" any grocery plastic bags?
Women helping Haiti -Omemee makes these mats. They meet every other Tuesday Morning at Reaoro-Omemee Baptist Church. See the Omemee Pigeon eFlyer for more details.
It is so touching to see how churches members can work together on a project such as this, in order to MINISTER to the needs of others. Not only are we helping the planet, we are ALSO being a blessing to those in need. To God be the Glory. Gotta spread the word of this video on Google Buzz and Facebook.
A small group in my church has started collecting milk bags for the purpose of creating milk bag sleeping mats. We haven't yet put together a team to make the mats yet but we have a substantial collection of milk bags. Are there any established groups making milk bag sleeping mats that could use the bags we have been collecting? Please contact me if you are interested.
I've briefly heard of milk-bags once, but I've never seen any in the States here, however back in the 70's, and maby even today, my grandmother used to make some through rugs out of plastic bread bags.....I havent seen any in a long time, but this is very close to that I guess.
