As a metal guitarist, I can appreciate the modes, but tis guy is totally fantastic! None of us could keep an audience mesmerised for forty minutes. All hail Nigel Kennedy.
I wonder how many times he played that to memorise it and get it that fluid ... fucking talent for you there my friends, classical beats most modern music hands down. * Glares at R and B *
You had to be there! I was, and as Richard Morrison in The Times points out today (8 Aug 11) Nigel Kennedy was superb. You could hear a pin drop - 5000 people listening to unaccompanied violin playing Bach - there was definitely a sprinkling of magic in the air on Saturday.
@whoknows2007 no, but at the same time this is an extremely difficult piece played with great precision and tuning and within a live concert i think we can all forgive Kennedy for a few scratches ...
@Harmony4lfe I appreciate it's difficult, but this is the Proms, it should be the absolute highest standard of musicians - there should certainly be less scratching and out of tune notes. :P
@whoknows2007 the way he scratches makes the performance more enjoyable. i mean it shows that its a human being with passion playing. this is similar to what my teacher always criticized about me when i would play sibelius 3rd mvt.. NO SCRATCHES, IT HAS TO BE CLEAN. But whats wrong with scratches, it adds on to the feeling!!! Dont you think!!!!!
@carloslaran There's passion, and then there's just not very good playing. People put plenty of passion into music without making it sound unpleasant in the process.

This is shit.
If you want to listen to Bach played properly go to Alina Ibragimova.

Isn't he a bit old to have such a silly hairstyle. It's the sort of cut an 8 year old kid begs their parents to let them have LOL
