  • you spelled instrumental wrong haha

  • @PhukIT1865 it's also spelled intstrumental you moron haha [at least on the Internet]

  • @PhukIT1865 Are you an idiot for real? Thanks for marking the misspelling, it can happen to anyone and especially when you upload hundreds of videos. I don't think it's the title who's the important thing here. Go to Ebay and type in "a new life" in the searchbar

  • @Leksingen There is a name for people who find these types of errors (I just discovered). They are called "Grammar Natzi's". They are as annoying as little gnats, flying around in your face and they are reproducing at a startling rate. And it appears that they have now included picking apart pretty much anything you say. They search for any tiny error in fact and if one is found, I guarantee they will point it out to you. We need to squash these buggers as they serve absolutely no purpose.

  • its a pitty my soundsystem delivers the guitar distorted

  • A beautiful blend of heart and talent...genius

  • Hi Leksingen, i like so much the video you did but i am wondering how can you have this kind of unreleased piece of music? Anyway, thank you so much.

  • Mark Knopfler should be acknowledged as a "Certified Guitar Player" as was Chet Atkins. Unless he already has that honored title.

    R.I.P.Chet Atkins

  • Words just simply cannot describe the beauty that Mark Knopfler creates with a guitar

  • What a sad sound!!!!

Is not easy to get it from a guitar, you can really feel it.

  • Now Chet is tuning in his Gibson, waitng for his true Neck'n'Neck comanion sooner or later will arive in heaven. Lets hope it will take many years!

  • Yesss, this guitar has soul and really weeps. What a sad sound.

  • Was Chet a big influence on Mark Knopfler ?

  • @Aqene1000 Good question! They sure played complimentary styles.

  • @Aqene1000

Chet and Mark played together wonderfully and shared a real mutual respect. See their duet album, "Neck and Neck." Some of their duets posted here on YouTube.

  • Cliff Richard also done a vocal version of this

  • Thank you so much Mr. M. knopfler

  • This is from the Golden Heart sessions, along with a couple of unreleased songs and instrumentals, it was recorded when Chet was still alive, because he visited Mark in the studio.

  • r.i.p chet....

  • argh, this song is beautiful and annoyingly not in any key in standard tuning (440Hz = A) it's about a quarter-tone out so I can't try and play along x-D

  • Of course you can, tune your guitar after the song :)

  • *effort* :V

  • @DylanCobb It´s really difficult playing in the same tune as he did, you take a lot of time to tune. I prefer playing in the standard tuning, the song continues beatiful.

  • @DylanCobb You can play it in A minor.

  • damm i love this it whas made back in the 90,s by knopfler my mother says that it is a old irish song R.I.P chet

  • your mother is right

  • ok thanks;-)

  • I had no ideá when it was from when I uploaded it. But I felt that it had something to do with Chet. But it obviosly didn't, but now I have made it into that ;-)

  • The water is wide i can't cross over neither have i the wiongs to fly give me a boat that can carry two and both shall row my love and i<3

that was the first verse=) i love this song! <3

  • where can i find the rest of the song, or the other version with the lyrics?

  • Try The Mersey Wreckers version just posted - Steve

  • Just to let you know. James Taylor most certainly DID NOT WRITE THIS SONG it is an old irish song that has been around for centurys.

    xD

  • Chet Atkins..R.I.P.

Thank you so much Mr. Mark Knopfler.

  • @mnuel60 I t5ry to give modern guitar players the benefit of the doubt, but they always let me down when I try compairing them to knopfler

  • Yes this was originally written by James Taylor in the 70`s, while he was still writing songs for the Eagles. The singer was Karla Bonhoff. This instrumental version is Mark Knopfler, beautiful though it is, he never played this version live on stage

  • Dude ... this was NOT written by James Taylor. It's an OLD folk song that's been around since the 1600s or so.

  • Mark payed touching homage to his friend Chet. It's a pity he's gone in 2001 defeated by cancer. But death rate is one per person. Who can change this?

  • wow you sure know alot about mark...this is his classic sound...thanks for all your input...i love his music

  • chet and mark are a legend....

  • Oh my god...Why do I always start crying when I hear this song...?! What a wonderful peace of music!

  • yes this is Mark Knopfler playing an instrumental version of water is wide by James Taylor or a fan playing it.i am an accoplished music teacher who has studied music theory for 20 years and did a note by note comparison....beautiful song though

  • Bella!!!

    Here's my 5*

  • No, it's not a James Taylor song, The Water is WIde is thought to be an old English or Scottish folk song.

  • really beautiful--thank you so much

  • Wow...this is amazing.

  • Wait a minute this isn't Knopfler.This is a James Taylor song.WTF!

  • this is knopfler and not james taylor or james must play and knopfler styleXD
