  • Euro versions of Americana are often a bit skewed, as are American interpretations of European culture. I'm thinking that the calliope doesn't have a full chromatic scale or enough range to play the Marines' Hymn as we'd expect it.

As for respect and patriotism, the 3rd verse of the Hymn is not very reverent toward the Army and Navy.

  • I bet other songs sound good on this calliope, but this one is dreadful, to be honest.

  • Transposing is different... you aren't changing the melody of the song. I'm just saying you are making a proud PATRIOTIC song into a sad drudge. It's like turing a song about the holocaust into a grande march. I'm all about artistic freedom, but taking a patriotic song and making it sad and depressing is where I draw the line. Especially after all the men and women we've all lost at war.

  • Why are they playing it in minor?

  • Why should they not play in minor?

  • Cause that's not how the song is ment to be played LOL!

  • Why? It does not make any sense. Are you saying that it is not okay to play a piece of music in a minor key when it was written in a major key? Is it okay to transpose? Can I play a g-major song in c-major?

  • Ce lac Léman me manque parfois !

  • J'aime beacoup cette région. J'ai passé quatre ans à Vevey.
