  • good that u put him in a bigger tank, but u shouldnt do that because u stress them out and if your fingers are dirty u will pollute the water. fish also have a special layer on them and if you touch this u could damage it, proving potentialy fatal. good luck with future fish :)

  • How come my betta has survived for three years in a little betta hex jar that is maybe a quart big (and probably more like a pint). That's right. No heater. No filter. A pint size jar. And a healthy, happy fish.

  • Guys...I have have a male betta in a 1 gallon fishbowl and he's never had any kind of filtration system. Granted I do change his water every few weeks. About half of his little bowl is taken up by a rock that he loves to hide in. When I take even that out, he tries to hide in his gravel and doesn't move. The space is fine, unless I'm missing something here. PS he's a wal-mart betta and is nearly 5 years old now. Maybe this is a different type though?

  • I sop the top comments ....that tank is perfect for there size..

  • I hope I can get a Betta like that..seriously gorgeous!

  • The fish is all "ARRGH IMMA EAT YOU"

  • The tank is too small. Unless you do daily water changes he will die bettas can live in puddles for a couple days. They are found naturally in the warm murky water of farmers rice fields. Eating bugs on the surface of the water. Be decent and go buy a at least 5-gallon starter kit for 20$ at walmart make sure you have a heater aswell... I know this due to many books exstensive reasearch and owning bettas since i was four.

  • @Keeganschannel My betta has lived in a 1 gallon for 3 years now. When I tried putting him in a 5, he would sit in the same spot for hours at a time and not move or eat as often. He never got used to it and only stayed in the five gal for four months before I moved him back into his 1 gal. The books you're reading are bullshit. Bettas prefer smaller spaces.

  • The tank is fine betta fish like small spaces because you catch them in puddles sometimes

  • @MeKiller45 Just because you catch it in a puddle doesn't mean it lives there, they hop from puddle to puddle searching for a larger body of water...

  • God !!! i love mute button!

  • I use to have beta a lot in Thailand but now I'm in england so it too cold for beta

  • I'm just about to get one. Plus does it even hurt when they bite your finger??

  • STOP ABUSING YOUR FISH. THEY DON'T DESERVE YOU. whoops caps lock :P

  • Yeah, they usually do that when they hate their owners for putting them in some kind of square bowl that's supposed to pass as a tank.

  • Yeah, they usually do that

  • Show us that when you get a piranha :)

  • A lot of you people here are bleeding-heart morons. A betta needs very little space to actually thrive. People need to stop humanizing fish. Even in the wild, though it can swim freely, it would keep it's territorial limit small.

This seems like a 1 gallon or 1.5 gallon tank which is plenty for a betta that is kept alone. With the addition of the plant and the cave, it's nearly prime living. Personally, I keep Betta's in nothing smaller than a 2 gallon, but that's my own choice.

  • @Canadarm123 I keep mine in a 5 gallon and he uses every square inch of it .

  • @Canadarm123 I don't humanize my fish. A wild betta keeps a territory of a 2 foot radius. I am not very good at math, but I think that is quite a bit larger than a 1.5 gallon tank. And it has little to do with space and a lot to do with water quality. It is impossible to keep a tank that small cycled and stable.

  • @PartAwesome So what? That's in the wild, this is a pet. Just like dogs cannot live in forests or fields where they have acres to run around in, they are kept in backyards etc.

No one should humanize fish, they are even entirely different from mammals. What I simply said was, that they live comfortably and adequately in tanks about 1.5 gallons big. Just like a dog can live comfortably with a normal sized backyard to run around in. Fish don't also share mammal emotions either.

  • @Canadarm123 so what? Well you were the one that brought up the wild in the first place. Can't stand the fact that you got your facts wrong so you have to change your story around? It has NOTHING to do with the fish's emotions. Anything under five gallons cannot be kept stable. Bettas need stable water conditions.

A small backyard is quite all together different than a closet, which is the best comparison for the fish scenario. And what happened to fish aren't like mammals?

  • hey do you have any bettas for sale?

i live in vegas do you know where i can buy a nice betta not

the same ones that petco and petsmart have?

  • @11leojuan let me know if you get any responses, i live in vegas too and still have my beautiful betta which i rescued from walmart. he's awesome. but in the future, id like to go elsewhere

  • @ghettocandy how much do you want for that betta.

    ill buy off you seriously.

  • bastard.

  • Hes aggresive and ur an asshole that does not go so well...

  • Wow man where does this false rumor spread that "betas don't need space"? A mid sized fish like the beta needs at least 1 gallon of space, it's a fish, not some sort of weird fish that has exceptions to all rules. WTF people cmon.

  • Thanks for sharing

  • hehe, betta's dont need space :P

there not ruykin's because they got a wagtail:P

  • where u get the cave

  • I really hope you have that poor thing in a proper tank by now.

By the way, he wasn't attacking you. If he was, he'd be flaring at you, and not biting you at all. He thought your finger was food.

  • @PartAwesome

Unfortunately, he's passed on now, but I did move him into a much bigger nicer tank! First I switched him to a 10 gallon, then he was in a 25!! I feel bad having them in such small spaces. And he was quite a gentleman when it came to my mollies and platys!

I know he wasn't attacking =) Title is a joke.

  • @STangoFox

if you move bettas into large tanks they will die.. dont ask me how, but its a betta thing.

  • @STangoFox eyy have you posted your newest 25 gallon aquarium video? wanna see

  • @STangoFox tha

  • @PartAwesome actually bettas do better in smaller low water level and little to no filtration. They do not like moving water and they are labyrinth breathers (they breathe air in from the surface). Plus they feel stressed when they are placed in a large tank with moving water. This betta is nice and happy where he is.

  • @trumpetsownu94 Ah, maybe you should tell all my bettas that they should be stressed out and dead by now. Silly me for not knowing that when I put them in 20 gallon tanks. Bettas do better with filters. There is a difference between a filter and a current. Bettas don't do well with water movement (although some water movement is perfectly fine), but it's impossible to keep a tank cycled and stable without a filter. Bettas NEED cycled, stable water to live to their full potential.

  • lol, do their bites tickle?

My Betta will follow my finger, or brush against it, won't ever bite though. But he's probably trying to charm some bloodworms out've me.

  • Cute Betta! He's so active, all mine does is swim around, he hasn't gotten too accustomed to me yet but I hope that changes when I get more Bettas

  • @Sasukesorrow In the same tank? Hope not. they'll kill eachother :(

  • @gingersassy Well yes and no, they would be in the same tank but separated by dividers of course

  • where did you get the cave? I have been looking for a white cave for my betta

  • @whiteboypatrickkelly

Check eBay! =) Can't remember where I got this.

  • @STangoFox that is so wierd b cuz my betta is scared to hell of fingers....

  • @EveryoneLuvzBetaFish mine too!!! freaks him out.

  • My betta actually does attack me....abit distressing tbh :/ lol!

  • Thats not aggresive bhvr. He is not inflating his gills. Its just chasing the finger frm where all the food comes!!

    Every betta does that.

    I have 4 bettas.

  • mine enjoys biting my eye

  • my bettas love me!

  • there is a good site on betta care called fishforums and it's net instead of com

  • You should have a 5 gallon tank, and the fake plant could rip your bettas fins by accident. I suggest a silk plant or real plant. That is cool how your betta goes after your finger, did you try hanging a bloodworm on your finger and see if he will leap at it.
