  • I hate racing. If there was a sport that killed 370 humans a year would it be legal? What is the difference...Horses run with fear not because they want to..This needs to stop. <3

  • I've been around Standardbreds race horses my whole life, and I have NEVER seen this kind of racing before. This is not a style that is popular. I'm not saying racing isn't dangerous, but what I am saying is this video is ignorant propaganda. How come we didn't see clips from a regular race? Or ones from this decade? These clips look atleast twenty years old. Also this is an industry, not entertainment, thats why the risk is overlooked. People rely on their income this business.

  • This is ridiculous. I'm a huge animal lover, I'm a vegetarian and I know horses. I work with horses. These animals are bred for this. They want to run, they'll go mad if they can't. There are fatalities and that is tragic when it happens but if a horse breaks its leg, it DOESN'T heal like a cat or a dog. It's humane to put it down, and if it broke its leg racing at least it had a good life. Loved, treated like a king, exercised properly - more than can be said for horses neglected in fields.

  • Yes, we all know that horses are well treated but why they must be raced to death?

I think that races like THAT should be banned, the obstacles are too dangerous. Horse and his rider must have luck, not skills in horse racing.

  • What about the jockey's? What if they get hurt and die?

  • @HuckleberryKae They are not forced to do it and they will not be put down. Also, they are not the ones who have to put in the intense effort and suffering to complete the race whilst being whipped. In actual fact I care a lot lot more for the horses than the jockeys.

  • how did you make this video

  • Its both man and beast out their risking their life for our entertainment AND their own.., I dont see any concern for the number of injured jockeys per year. My grandmother has a huge plot of land with wild brumbies and we regularly pulling out the level action to shoot a lame horse which happened naturally! But of course., I must be inhumane too!!

  • how would you people like to be expected to run half a mile in 1:00and be as hard as possible and then get no reward when you did most of the work

  • people take opinions soooooooo seriously

  • Never in my life would I ever contribute to the breeding, the killing - the injuries and deaths of these horses. I find it an absolutely disgusting industry !

  • God what is this country coming to? Everything that we stand for and people want to stop it all, hunting racing what next? I used to own an ex racer, once a racer always a racer - retired for years and still get an open space and all he wanted to do was go as fast as he could (even though i didnt)! His passion was speed! He injured his leg galloping in the field UNRIDDEN its a risk you take owning horses!!!

  • This is forced cruelty its simple, if these horses were not forced to run in steeplechases they would die from fatel acidenets, i think only flat racing should be allowed

  • OMFG. Whoever made this video knows nothing! Its not cruel. The horses get well looked after. The fact that they fall and occasionally don't survive is LIFE. I don't know about other countries, but I know here in New Zealand the horses are not abused at all. They have to be in good condition and well looked after to be in top form to race.

  • @alicemrox these horses are not looked after well AT ALL. they are drugged, over-run, and under-fed. if theirleg breaks, they are killed. a normal horse wouldnt be. if my horse broke a bone, he wouldnt be put down. these horses are run so fast that almost any flaw could kill them. yes, horses will gallop when they are wild, but NOT AS MUCH AS RACEHORSES. you really need to learn some stuff before you comment about it.

  • @Bellesweetie cool , just because i've been round horses all my life means nothing LOL. and yeah, if any horse breaks a leg thers a 90% chance they'll put it down. wild horses gallop more than racehorses. racehorses love to run, to stretch their legs and gallop fast. im preeety sure i know more about racehorses and horses alone than you so if i were you i'd shut your mouth(:

  • @alicemrox well i know a lot myself. my aunt owns a huge ranch, so i'd shut it if i were YOU. hehe :) wild horses definately dont gallop as much as racehorses. being expected to run half a mile in a minute and get nop reward for their work is horrible! shutcho mouth :) have a good one

  • @Bellesweetie oooo well i've been interested in the sport all my life, even tried it out in the sulkey. its fun, the horses get really well looked after, and love to get out there and run. yes theres some people who are only in it for the money, but some aren't. hey, they aren't pets either. i've been there at the track, researched, and have been to see my uncles friends racehorses many times. its a great sport - sometimes people can be unfair, some people are only in it for money, but

  • @Bellesweetie but to have a successful horse you have to look after it well, train it well, and race it well. people don't exhaust their horses, these animals are athletes, they train for big races, they race - they love it. sometimes horses break their legs etc in racing , but really - what quality of life would they have with a broken leg? broken legs + horses are very hard to fix. even barbaro who broke his leg got given the biggest chance to live, they did everything they could, but it just

  • @Bellesweetie wasn't happening. if a pet horse breaks its leg theres pretty much a 95% chance the horse will be put down. racehorses aren't pets , people seem to think they are, but they are work horses, they don't know any better. racing is not a bad sport, its just like xc, show jumping etc. racing sort of gets "picked on" because people don't know anything about it and just make stuff up about it they believe in. its not a bad sport, go protest about more worse things, like dog fighting etc.

  • @Bellesweetie also if they are underfed, how can they race? a successful horse is a healthy horse, so if theres such thing as bad feeding in the horse racing industry, thats just wrong. the horses do NOT get underfed. they wouldn't be allowed to race if they weren't looked after properly.

  • @Bellesweetie You clearly have no idea what you're talking about, lets play imagination for a minute. You spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on a race horse, and you want to win that money back and then some. Is beating it, starving it and running it to the ground going to get you that money back? No! You dumbass, people treat their horses with respect and care so they perform well, maybe you need to learn some stuff before you comment.

  • @alicemrox

Exactly how it is in the UK! We have a charity for ex-racehorses and alot of people competing buy them because they are fairly cheap to buy!

  • well if as many riders as horses died, maybe there will be more action to stop this......

or if we simply slaughter the injured jockeys

  • this is bollox, racing is the sprot of kings, ye horses break there legs etc but they do that all the time in eventing as well, wasnt it mary kings horse that broke its leg n had 2 b distroyed in an arena that had jumps in, n in dressage at high levels they strap the horses heads down n cause them so much stress n pain in there neck, back n hind limbs cus of all the work, more horses have serious problems n die in eventing n dressage than racing u just dont c it on tv all the time

  • Comment removed

  • not all race horses r beaten n drugged, all ur lookin at is the bad side, i av worked 4 5 different trainers n all of them treat there horses wiv more respect than the stable lads, race horses love wat they do n if they dont then they tend 2 get re-homed or go n live there life out in a field wiv other horses, if u want horse racin 2 stop u want all these amazin horses 2 b slaughtered cus thts wat they will do

  • Non-humans are not our slaves, property, or commodites.

    Stop speciesism! Go vegan!

  • @VeganButterfly Wtf does going vegan have to do with horse-racing?

  • @BackstretchUnderdog Horse racing is obviously a form of animal exploitation. The animals are owned and exploited for human use.

What are horse races for? For human entertainment and for betting purposes. There you go.

  • @VeganButterfly These horses are taken better care of than millions of people in the world. Yeah, they're in SUCH pain. And, horses obviously love running anyway. They're not "exploited". If you've ever seen a race where the jockey falls off, why does the horse keep running?

  • @BackstretchUnderdog Veganism isn't about how much pain slaves feel. Veganism is about refusing to support slavery at all.

The horses are not enjoying the race, and even IF they were, "happy" slavery is STILL slavery.

Would you support human slavery if the slaves were not beaten, were given adequate shelter, food, and water, and were treated in a generally friendly manner by their owners?

  • @VeganButterfly Horses aren't SLAVES. They're pets, livestock, and friends. HUMAN slaves are people being owned by other people, which I am not for. Honestly, without human caretakers, horses' life spans would be shortened dramatically, and about only 1-10 horses would live to be 20. Not to mention predators, lack of food and water, and natural diseases would kill them.

  • @BackstretchUnderdog

So it's illegal to buy, sell, and own horses then? You can only adopt and put up for adoption? You cannot breed, exploit, or harm them? You're kidding yourself! Society and the law has considered non-humans as property for thousands of years!

Try selling a horse on Kijiji, then try selling a human child on Kijiji. See what difference it makes what species you try to sell.

  • @BackstretchUnderdog Livestock....think about that term. Live ...STOCK. LIVING COMMODITIES. Living property for human use and sale. If human children were treated as "livestock" here, the ones treating them that way would go to prison.

Their status as property of humans is made even more obvious with terms like "livestock", "pet", and "owner".

  • @BackstretchUnderdog So what if slaves might be protected from dangers of a life of freedom. Would YOU want to live in prison so you never have to worry about getting hit by drunk drivers, falling down stairs, or running out of food?

Why don't you come over and be my housework slave? I will give you plenty of food and water, and I won't beat you. You will just do whatever I tell you and you will be my property. Sound appealing?

  • @BackstretchUnderdog

    Now, please answer my question.

Would you support human slavery if the slaves were not beaten, were given adequate shelter, food, and water, and were treated in a generally friendly manner by their owners?

  • @VeganButterfly I do not have time to argue with someone so close-minded. Good-bye.

  • @BackstretchUnderdog

    Lol, if I were close-minded I would still be the meat-obsessed hunting/fishing non-vegan I used to be.

If you can't explain your speciesism and support of non-human slavery, then perhaps you should open YOUR mind and think about why that is.

Anyways, I hope you have a great day.

    ~*~Peace and Love~*~

  • @BackstretchUnderdog If you won't support "humane" human slavery, but you will support "humane" non-human slavery, then you are a speciesist and that is what I'm talking about. Speciesism is just a immoral and illogical prejudice like racism and sexism. Non-humans are not property of humans anymore than blacks are property of whites and women are property of men.

  • @BackstretchUnderdog I invite you to debate this with me over private messaging, where we are not burdened by character limits and scrolling through posts to find a particular post.

  • Suffer? Well you obviously have never been to a racing stable, because they are very far from suffering. You are just another complete idiot who doesnt know anything about racing.

  • I spent four years working at a racing stable in Newmarket. Yes, the horses are well tended while they are in training, however, they have no access to a natural life or behaviour, such as mutual grooming, grazing, company, a natural diet. They are overworked when they are physically and mentally immature and they are discarded when they are injured or no longer profitable.

  • All of these reasons and more are why I stopped working in racing. I got fed up of going to work in the morning to discover that one of my old friends had been shot in the head! Racing is all about money and glory, and what happens to the poor creature at the end of its career is often not of much concern.

  • U DON'T KNOW WAT UR SAYiNG!!!1

  • I only JUST watched the video.

    how stupid are you?

All of those are ACCIDENTS. ACCIDENTS uncaused by the HUMAN, and not the fault of the HORSE either, but ACCIDENTS.

    Where's the 'cruelty'?

And if you didn't notice, the rider was getting hurt too.

    Holy damn.

Be alert and aware of the truth behind animal cruelty, DON'T gobble up whatever bullshit animal rights groups throw down your throat.

    Hurray for further media manipulation.

  • My mom used to work with racing horses. My best friend had a few horses her family entered in races. Both ADORE horses and would NEVER indulge in this sport if it was cruel.

Accidents happen. Mistakes are made. As they are only horses, we are only human. Face it - we're dumb.

I'm a proud vegan, and I do NOT condone animal cruelty in the LEAST, but the "dark side of horse racing"?

If someone wants their horse to win, which is the POINT OF THE SPORT, they don't mistreat the animal.

  • It is still speciesist animal exploitation.

You're a vegan? Vegans do not support animal exploitation.

Eating a vegan diet isnt the same as being a vegan.

According to Vegan Society (Donald Watson's org - he created veganism): "A vegan is someone who tries to live without exploiting animals, for the benefit of animals, people and the planet."

Exploiting animals for human gain is NOT vegan.

  • I woudnt put a friend through that shit!! horse racing is a sick, sadistic and egosentric!! I only have one question. WHY?

  • horse racing isnt sick ... ? so having a fishin a tank is cruehaving a bird in a cage crueLhaving a hamster in a ball is cruel

no its not horse racing is not cruel

horses love to run the love to jump that what there born to do. when i race my horse if i dont wanna run i dont make it it rears up and walks backwards so does all the other horses if they dont wanna race i always see this. if they band horse racing that means more horses go to the slaughter house ITS NOT CRUEL HORSE RACING

  • yea and like those horses would run like that if they didn't have some ba*stard leprechaun on their backs whipping them to go faster?? It's sick!

  • Damn right. As a recent ex horse racing gamble, I have seen horses get whipped a hell of a lot, then go slower instead of faster and then lose the jockey at a hurdle. The horse that was last easily goes into the lead (but it doesn't count in betting terms as it's riderless).

  • @ArticElephant Liar

  • Accidents happen in every sport. The horses are worth millions and sometimes billions of dollars. They do not abuse the horses at all. Horses are not as smart as mules and donkeys are prone to running themselves to death. Saying they abuse these horses is like saying evey time someone buys a new giant 1080p HD TV they break it, spill water on it, or throw it away.

  • You people are crazy!! this sport isn't cruel!

If so many people are against horseracing, how come many people aren't against barrel racing and other great horse sports?

    HORRAYY TO HORSE RACING!!!!!

Long race the sport of kings!!!

  • fck you,i hope you realise one day how what you said is so horrible

  • What did I say that is horrible? I know thats its not cruel.

Believe me, when you know the sport, you know the facts.

Oh wait, are you against this wonderful sport?

Well guess what, it will never be illegal,

    SO deal with it!!!!!!!!

    Then maybe you'll understand someday.

  • im against this horrible sport,it doesnt matter what facts you know if trainers know that the horses could very likely get hurt

  • Horrible sport? You have no right to judge it because you obviously just base your opinions around what you have heard about it being bad. When you learn something about the sport, and I mean more than winning pointlessly about how you think its cruel, then you can come back and see me.

  • Well ya know there is a little sport called Steeple Chasing.

our video contained steeple chasing NOT modern horse racing.

Plus, just because there is a few falls doesn't mean the sport is cruel.

    Because its not.

I support both Steeple Chasing and Horse racing.

    And I'm extremely proud :)

  • i don't suppose i should ask what "destroyed" means?

  • its shit

  • This video is so powerful. It really exposes the racing industry and everything thats wrong with it.

  • its sad!!!

where do you get all these horseracing movies??

    xx thank you

  • This is MY opinion.

If I sw a horse and a jockey fall,I would make my horse stop and get up and HELP them.I'm not a heatless cold bitch. :/

  • Race horses live better lifes than any others . They get bathed 2 times a day , feed all propper meals , if they show any signs of sickness the vet is called to help sort it out , and the list goes on . Most would dream of this kind of the 5 star treatment !!! so stop talkin shit about things you dont know !!!!! JACKASS !

  • ya they get bathed not 4 them but 4 the money!!good meals to keep them fit! and when there sick of corse there gunna get a doc the onwer wants them to race!! and ya list gose on and its all for MONEY!!!!!

    FUCK THE RACE HORSE INDESTRY!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Most people regard horse racing as a harmless sport in which the animals are willing participants who thoroughly enjoy the thrill. The ... all » truth is that behind the scenes lies a story of immense suffering....ME ARSE...dis is sum bullshit...get a fuckn life

  • u dont have a fukin clue bout horse racing its der natural thing would u prefer if a went out to de field wit my gun nd shot all de foals cause dey at no good 4 annytin if u ban racin .....its more cruel to keep a fish in a fish bowl or a dog locked in a house in a city........tuk use all u think ur doing good but ur actually just a pak o wasters

  • omg. i had no idea horse racinng was so cruel... until now. we have to stop this
