This is a wonderful video with a very appropriate soundtrack. It's been too long since I climbed Humphrey's Peak and Mount Elden. The song is, however, much older than you state. The German version, Mein Vater war ein Wandermann, was written in 1810.
The original song was written by Friedrich-Wilhelm Moller shortly after World War II. It is often mistaken for a German folk song (probably the one you stated), but it's actually an original composition. Moller's sister conducted a youth choir which performed it on BBC radio in 1953 and the song became a hit.
Well, Flag is a great place to go wandering, that's for sure.
