@Thesoulpills No, I don't consider myself an expert, though I've owned prairie dog for over nine years. One doesn't have to be a nutritionist to know that cookies are high in sugar. And prairie dogs are adapted to digesting grass with very little sacharides. Too much sugar causes serious problems to them.
However mhiwvm stated that these cookies are "special", so I guess they are some kind of low-sugar rodent treats.
it is so funny to regular people all prarie dogs look the same but to people that have them as pets notice the little things different..like mine she loss the fur on the top of her nose from putting her head through the bars of her cage
I had one for a few years. She passed away from unknown causes. They are pretty smart suprisingly. It took ours a little bit to learn her name but she was very cunning. And yes THey are ALWAYS this fat. They are the cutest animals on this planet and they are very affectionate. Careful they do get nasty sometimes. You can't buy them anymore from stores. You gotta find a PD breeder.
I'm pretty sure they are now illegal to keep as pets in any state. I heard this while working on an ecology study with wild ones this past summer, correct me if I'm wrong.
@pouchedrattie everywhere? or just certain states? I'd love to have one as a pet to maybe sway my mind towards liking them again. (ie workign with angry wild ones sort of skews your perception of them being docile animals lol)
He is too fat, not healthy.

You're feeding them cookies? They are bad for prairie dogs' health.

Not anymore. People can find them for sale online, which I don't recommend, exotic shows, breeders and pet stores.
