no reducing the flash strength still makes shiny fabrics look crappy and skin look greasy. This does do a good job of diffusing the light. Yeah, it's expensive, but it stays on securely and looks a lot nicer than some paper towel taped on!
He tries to make you think that the Lightsphere allows you to expose for the subject and the ambient lighting. Notice in the "Direct" example there is very little ambient lighting behind the subject. Let's see the unmanipulated EXIF data...
Yeah, it'll help fill a small room with light but outdoors you're just throwing most of your light away. I don't know how many people I've seen using this outdoors...fairly funny. Like mywuffi said, just reduce bare flash enough to pop a little light into the eyes when outdoors and you're done.
we used it on a wedding, and it really came through, we love it now, especially when shooting an african wedding,in low light conditions, it allowed us to get the couple s every details, and we bought it on our way from the church to the reception,.
I shoot without flash all the time I've never gotten that bad color before! How did you get a funky color like that mine always come out perfect skin tones. If you don't want shadows in the eyes you can put them in shade too. If you want some nice fill light use the white card built into the flash tilt the flash down at a 35-45% angle lower it by a stop or 3 and your Golden! Its fast and easy!
HE PUT THE FLASH ON WITHOUT LOCKING WTF IS HE CRAZY????

@Solarfactor A shutter speed comparison would be nice... 1/250 vs 1/60?

I have this and it works great outdoor too...it's not a scam. I shoot with a canon 50d and speedlight 580 ex ii.

Great to see how one can manipulate spectators.
It would be sufficient to reduce the strength of the plain flash by 1 or 2 stops to get the same effect.

@Prophit7 I think he had the white balance set for flash without using the flash. But it looks more like the WB was set for fluorescent or tungsten.
Thanks for the tip about the white card and tilt. I will remember that.

I heard about this before and then I read a book that talk about the lightspere. This has really convinced me to get one.
