I remember the hunger strike, he and was it Bobby Hughes, they died. I am of Irish decent in America and it broke my heart. I don't like bloodshed and violence but the way the Irish have been treated in their own land by England is beyond horrid. Oy. Bobby Sands was a member of PIRA who, along with nine others, went on hunger strike to try and gain what is essentially POW status for themselves and other IRA prisoners, along with other rights. The British refused, and the hunger strike continued, until Bobby and the ten others died.

That just about sums it up, till you find that tehran has a monument as does Tripoli and Damascus, that about tells we decent folk all we need to know!

I remember the hunger strike, he and was it Bobby Hughes, they died. I am of Irish decent in America and it broke my heart. I don't like bloodshed and violence but the way the Irish have been treated in their own land by England is beyond horrid. Just give the Irish back their country and go home, England doesn't need the 6 counties.

I have read some of the hurtful comments against these lads here and I do want to straighten one thing out. They died for their country. They died for the right for freedom so long denied. It took something like three months for them to die! So why don't people starve themselves for a day to fit into their shoes.

Oy. Bobby Sands was a member of PIRA who, along with nine others, went on hunger strike to try and gain what is essentially POW status for themselves and other IRA prisoners, along with other rights. The British refused, and the hunger strike continued, until Bobby and the ten others died.
