one of the best singers in the nation (God given beautiful voice and the ability to sing complex melodies and execute difficult runs) ...ya'll remember Tell Me by Groove Theory...this is her ya'll...although this wasn't the best performance, she needed more background singers and this song isn't the easist song to sing...
I was at this show, this was a gift to my sister Vickie-Happy Birthday Vickie.. Thank Amel for allowing my sister photos with you and getting on stage so that I can get a shot of you too! Thanks
The song is metaphorical. It's a clever play on words, comparing the struggles of the acquatic world to the world we live in. It's a profound message.
"Can I come up for air?" Begs the question of trying to escape the harsh realities of the world. Trying to get ahead but can't. "The big fish have a monopoly, the little fish get buried in the sand..." It also talks about one's expectations for life that go unmet. "I mistook this for the promised land"
That makes total sense now. If I had looked at the lyrics I may have gotten the message. Too busy being in love with the melody! LOL Thank you so much! She is such a soul for peace...I may use this song when I do my massage sessions.
I know !The melody is hypnotic even to the end. I LOVE this song so much. Everytime I listen to it the hair raises up on my arms. Amel and Maxwell are some talents. Only if they did a duet (wishful thinking)....
I love how the interpretation of a great song can be different depending on who's doing the interpreting. When writing this song, I think Larrieux could have also been thinking about how limited her creativity and artistry was before the existence of Bliss Life Records. I love great songs like this one - songs that requires one to think about what is being heard.
I love her sprit it's pure light!

'I Look Up with Longing At The Surface
Hypnotized By The Way The Sunlight Seems To Ride Each Ripple
And They Do A Dance
Every Ray Becomes A Beckoning Hand
I Miss The Sweet Taste Of Oxygen
I Mistook This For The Promised Land"
Can i come up for air?
