excellent video....where did you find it? I am a "space buff" and never heard about this testing of X-20 cockpit by Apollo astronauts. I do lament that the X-20 didn't get a chance to fly......and am equally intrigued that the US is returning to capsules (for this go round). Perhaps my ideal world is one in which we persued both approaches simultaneously and in force.
I hate to break it to you but Nasa wount be operating any king of space capsule for a long long time. The shuttle will be retired at the end of 2010 and the constellation progran to make the orion capsule was cancelled thanks to obama wasting money on bailing out wall street banks
Yes, if it could have been possible to create such a spacecraft, I guess, that could have solved quite a lot of problems. However, what about project Apollo? Could they do something like this with Ddyna Soar technology?
Im guessing they are testing different types of suit for cockpit fit and control reachability. First set seem unpressurised, second seem to be with air-hoses attached. very interesting clip. Shows how far they got in terms of design and build.
Do you have any clips of the almost complete article before the drop test was cancelled?
@rossco1966 Some suits remamber Mercury Programa, and others remamber early stages of Apollo Program, when the suits still was being developed to allow a man to walk on Moon.
@rocketshipstud2 Notice how they have the thing painted flat black....plus like you say, olive drab suit. They never canceled it like we were told. Apollo 1 was probably a rub-out by the CIA. They knew too much and were unwilling to co-operate. Heck, SR flights were probably cover for Space Force missions.
Wally Schirra was the only astronaut to appear in the I'm The NRA ads.
Enjoys the Right Stuff underscore.

What an awesome era in aviation history these fellows lived in! BTW, I enjoyed the "Right Stuff" soundtrack. Went great with the footage.

spam in a can? not in the x-20, but I think so in a capsule. This is way too cool.

Good video. You never know, they could have made it and said it was "canceled" to throw off the Russians.
