  • In the opening against Nh6, if you'd played d3, Bg4 wins the your queen, even after Bxf7+ Kf8

  • Orgasmic!!,

  • So, basically, Black made an inaccurate move with his bishop in the opening and that was enough to produce a win. Or, did you identify other inaccuracies?

  • Really informative! I wish I could play as good as you do! >.<

  • everytime I watch game analyses like this it makes me want to play chess, then I go play some blitz online and I make 5 blunders in one game and play a whole bunch more games that are just totally ugly. I guess what I need to do is start playing more quality chess, less blitz, and maybe even some otb games rather than online.

  • You're a much more aggressive player than your voice makes you seem like.

  • @scampbl Deceptive voice?! :)

  • Why did he keep playing on after he was forced to sacrifice his queen? Black should have resigned at before it got to that

  • @MilitaryMan006 in a short blitzy type game he still had chances with a lot of pawns on the board plus his rook n knight .. slim but worth playing on for a bit, see if white blunders

  • An amazing analysis...!!! I learned a lot :) You rock !

  • @1981cherryblossoms Thanks cb! :)

  • That was great. Thanks! I feel like I just went to chess class. I particularly love your tactic at 6:17 with the forced check/Queen capture position. At first it seems like a inexplicably foolish move, but there is method to your madness.

  • You make chess sound funny, WTF??!!?

  • gorgeous game!! faking genius!

  • Very good, like your style as it makes chess look interesting again. The internet and computers killed chess for me 5 years ago, went from one game a month at home to playing and losing countless games against fiendishly good players around the world, then, finally , being coldly "Shredded" by Shredder did it for me. But thanks to these videos have been looking and learning again.....

  • "Is this a blunder?" :-) Another great game analysis

  • good explanations and clear language.. i'm from germany but i understood a lot :D

  • After Qh5 you say Nh6 is a bad move because of d3. In fact d3?? is a blunder that loose the queen after lg4 as bxf7 does not solve whites problem.

  • excellent play jerry

  • Many thanks for posting! Roy

  • I enjoyed your game - thankyou.

  • why does the black player by 5:40 not hit with his tower your horse??

    it was not save

  • @94Jannis Because the queen on F2 is watching over that square. Assuming black captures the knight with his black bishop, the rook moves up, capturing the black bishop which black does not want to lose. Not only does he lose the bishop, but now his queen is also in danger, and it can't simply capture the rook, since it's guarded by the queen.

Lol, I thought this through the way Jerry would. It's like his voice haunts me now. :)

  • Are national masters on average weaker than Fide masters? Started looking it up, but it's really more detail than I'm willing to get into. Why aren't national and international rating scheme brought in line with each other?

Like the care with which these vids are mode.

  • also u made this guy look like a fool, he was unable to even develop his bishop AND rook

  • you made me think about playing this game a different way. I really like thinking in your play style. its like the computer.

  • After 4...Nh6 you cant play 5.d3 because of 5...Bg4 and then you have to play 6.Bxf7+ but after that black just plays 6...Kd7 and you lose your Queen.

  • ... I like these videos of yours. After watchin' a lot of jrobichess videos and other random tactics/openings/strategy videos, I get to actually see most, if not all of it in action and the mindset of a Master.

Keep the videos commin' if you don't mind. You're helpin' a rookie beat his Grampa! (Lmfao. I'm 22 and still haven't won... Though, I did Draw him 3 times.)

  • Bravo ! You are perfoming excellent teaching.

  • Please turn your audio volume up, or your mic. Thanks.

  • BTW, I forgot to mention, I watch and rewatch your videos because your commentary is fantastic. I always say I am going to be a stronger player after watching your videos. Although that is not always the case, it is my self dillusion, not your commentary :) I love your vids man!!!

  • My man you rock I have been watching your play for a long time and love re-watching your victories. Just wanted you to know you are an inspiration.,

  • annoying sound in the background

  • Have You tried poker? its much like chess but you would make profit out of it :)

  • one word that could describe you: AMAZING!

  • Wow, I have to say this:

I've watched a lot of chess commentary that's abstract but your commentary which shows all of the moves in color really helps me understand things. I'm slowly beginning to see these moves!

  • why king to g2 near the end?

  • The move 5.d3?? which you recommend in the video is a horrible blunder, due to the move 5...Bg4 which traps the queen. But after 4...Nf6 it is a bad placed piece horribly on the edge of the board on the square {h6} which gives you a positional advantage so the move 3...Be7 is bad in itself and the move 4...g6 weakens the dark squares too much.

  • The move 5.d3?? which you recommend in the video is a horrible blunder, due to the move 5...Bg4 which traps the queen.

  • Nice game and video.

move 28(?) Ng8-e7 was not good...

    Thanks for uploading this ;)

  • after Qh5 Nh6 d3 Bg4 and you loose your queen:).

  • It's the demented form of the king's indian defence

  • What program or software do you use to make these videos?

  • very good, sound was down alittle, but i liked anaylisis..thanx

  • I love these videos

    YOU CANT BEAT JERRY !!!!

  • My mind's working. Hhha Thanks Jerry.

    Benson and Tonic

    myspace/bensonandtonicproductions

  • I have to say Jerry, this might be my favorite game of yours. There is some fantastic chess going on here!

  • I've been watching a few of your videos and they're great. I like the commentary, and it's good to hear you describe strong positions and key squares. That's what I need to work on the most, and I appreciate your videos for that.

  • great game and nice video

  • Please keep the videos coming, I'm learning a lot from you

  • I love chess network

  • Hey!

I have been watching your videos for some time now and I have to say that you are an amazing chess player.

  • Also I have a question. At 5:49 would this next combination be good or not? Instead of Qf2 Ke6 check and black has to take with Pe6 (because if he takes with Re6 he loses the Queen with Qd1) then withe plays Qd1 and captures Queen and black has to recapture with Rd8 and white captures Rook with Rd8. I know white does not have a big advantage but black has a badly placed Pawn on e6 and black also lost a Rook while white only lost a Knight.

  • holy shit near the end when you were talking about how it was checkmate in 4 did you figure that out in your head during the game?

Or was it a standard game? Either way amazing!

  • I didn't calculate that prior to the rook sac. I just felt that there must be something good after Re7. I only noticed the mate when I was reviewing the game for alternative moves. My opponent played Kg8 without much consideration and so I spent no time during the game with what I would do if Kh6.

    This was a 90-minute game.

    Thanks for the compliment. =)

  • @ChessNetwork Hey Jerry, I'm just about all the way through all your videos- hope you'll do some more soon!!

I just wanted to clarify- you sacrificed the rook because you felt Kg8 was a defensive move you could exploit? I've been playing chess for years but never seriously and doubt I'm much beyond a beginner- sacrificing pieces more on intuition is completely out of the question for me! nicely played game :)

  • I agree, I don't think I would be able to figure that out during a game.

  • why do they resign if it's just one move away from checkmate? why not just play the last move? it just leaves a huge feeling of incompleteness inside...

  • I think it's a way of being polite to one's king as odd as it may sound. Like...I admit defeat, now don't kill me/checkmate me. Similar to that of waving the red flag.

  • @ChessNetwork another reason is to avoid mental fatigue, so you can focus on your next match.

  • @ChessNetwork you mean waving the white flag, not red.

  • because it does not make any sence.

mate and resign the same result - victory :D

  • That's one way to view it. =)

  • I totally agree with you; there is no point in resigning one move before checkmate. I would always let the opponent finish it off with checkmate if I see they have one in a few moves.

  • @NinjaDog251

well its cuz after you've played 3 million games, (and/ or actually reach the status or master or gm) u begin 2 have a sense of where the game is going & start seeing 6, 8 or even more moves ahead .... if u already no wat is goin 2 happen .... ie: lose the match, then continuing 2 play is futile & a waste of time

  • @NinjaDog251 because better players can calculate the position. They understand ahead of time if theyre lost or not. In the case theyre lost, they resign, rather than play out a lost position.

  • @NinjaDog251 I think in chess its considered impolite to play to the very end in high level games when you know your toast. Basically you are saying you hope your opponent makes a blunder so you can get out of it. So in a way it is an insult to your opponent saying that you have some confidence that you think they might make a novice mistake. In addition to that you are just wasting both of your time.

  • @NinjaDog251 Thats the point.

  • I guess its checkers for me for now ;)..

  • Haha =)

  • well played!

  • Thank you seppesai. =)

  • very clever indeed

  • Thanks for the compliment. =)

  • When there are square weaknesses created on the kingside castle, would you prefer castling queenside? Or do you think that he'd be able to hold onto the bishop in most cases?

  • It depends on how many weaknesses are created in order to know which direction the king should head to. One should really know where the king's address is going to be prior to making weaknesses.

  • Do you play on yahoo? Can you tutor me?

I can't put a game together at all.I haven't won a single game against ANYONE.I know the rules as far as where the pieces can move etc , the idea of checks mates , stalemates etc but I just can't get a game going right. If you or someone here is willing to tutor me on yahoo chess or elsewhere please respond or send me a message ty.

  • No yahoo.

  • I'd highly recommend purchasing Chessmaster. I have 10th edition (pretty old) and it still has tons of instructive stuff to learn the game.

  • Thanks for the suggestion.

  • I apperciate your suggestion but I have a cd with fritz and it also has instructional videos and whatnot , but that doesn't help me at all.I need a person to actually walk me through how to play , otherwise I don't think I'd ever learn. But I can't afford to pay 30 dollars per lesson simply because it would take at least a few lessons for me to start playing on even a begginer level and that would be hundreds of dollars =( .

If I wasn't starting from scratch I would have considered it.

  • Awesome. Keep up the good work :)

  • Thank you.

  • dude i used to hate chess after i talked to my dad about it and he showed me ur vids, i love it...ur awsome man im going to sbscribe to you, but i have a question...what do u use to record this stuf?

  • @TheStarcraftLegend Hey...thanks for the compliment. Glad you don't hate chess anymore. =) I use Camstudio to record.

  • @ChessNetwork thanks man ur a big help, just one thing, where do i get it?

  • Good to know. Google: Camstudio

  • I knew chess was a game involving thinking, but never this deep! You've opened my mind to a more strategical game. Thank you! :)

  • Glad to open the mind! =)

  • Ive noticed that castleing seems to be important as it happens in almost every game I watch. Is castleing really that good of a move?

  • Yes, since it allows the king to be moved out of the central files which are likely to become opened.

  • hi im completely new to this (not chess) just the whole *master* system. if you can please tell me the ranks, like, grandmaster is highest? or is national master highest? thx in advance.

  • Hi.

    Grandmaster is highest.

  • can you tell me the ranking of everybody? from lowest to highest? thx

  • Here's the list from high to low...

    Grandmaster (World title)

    International Master (World title)

    FIDE Master (World title)

    Senior Master (USCF title)

    National Master (USCF title)

    Expert

    Class A

    Class B

    etc...

  • impressive thought process. I really like the way you try to explain the purpose of every single move. It's very interesting to see what motives a master pursues in the course of a game. So, Thanks a lot for this and keep it up!

  • Thanks for such a great compliment. =)

  • Amazing videos! When do we get more?~ :)

  • Thanks. Not sure when the next one will be. =)

  • @ChessNetwork:

Many thanks to your vids!! Great work, great explanation of what and why you are doing your moves and what have been if you would do the worse move... I learn really much of those vids...!!! Thanks

    Asgi

  • Thanks for the compliment/feedback. =)

  • Simply awesome

    I learned too many stuffs

  • You learned too much? I apologize for this. =)

  • why apologize?

did I say anything wrong? eh?

  • I was just being sarcastic. Thanks for the compliment. =)

  • This is not an epic game, but I found it more and more useful for learning than a Kasparov vs Karpov game :)

  • Great! Glad to hear of it. =)

  • nice i enjoyed this game a lot. also nice speed and analysis, yea man good stuff. well appreciated for your efforts! peace

  • Thanks for the feedback and compliment. =)

  • Ok. Thanks.

  • You're welcome.

  • What chess program do you use in this video?

  • Blitzin

  • OK. Thanks for that!

  • You're welcome.

  • Hi! I am 11 years old but not that good at chess. Can you reccommend any good openings I should try to learn?

  • Hi. I recommend you playing openings that produce semi-open OR open positions so that you can become familiar with what squares your pieces function best on.

  • Very good. I really like your work and when I watch your vids I get the feeling that it is not impossible to become a master.^^

  • Thanks for the compliment. Glad to have such an effect on you. =)

  • smooth game for you =)

  • Thanks! =)

  • respect !!!!!!!!!! :D

  • Thanks. =)

  • if nh6 then d3? loses to bg4

  • You're right!

This was also pointed out by many other viewers as well.

    Good eye! ~¿o

    =)

  • ive been played chess sense 2002 and im 16 this years so i love to play sometime

  • Thanks for the comment. =)

  • It amazes the living hell out of me how you know the lines to "mates in 4" from not so common positions and such. Often I watch GM games and I see them offer up pieces which the other opponent doesn't take. And, sure enough, when I replay the game on a chess engine in which I can analyze it, I see that taking up on the "blunder" actually loses positional advantage, material advantage, or results in eventual mate. Just damn, how do you guys see it without going through all that analysis?

  • I've spent a lot of time with the game.

    Practice makes almost perfect! =)

  • Wow, you make these games so interesting. I've watched 3 in a row, and I'm not a huge chess player...but I am a nerd. :P

  • Thanks for the compliment. Glad I could keep your attention. =)

  • well maybe yu can make some request to help me...mayb a program or somethin

  • man dude is there neway yu can give me some lessons or somethin

  • I can't right now. Sorry. =(

  • Woaw ! Youre a pro ! your videos are my favorite in Youtube !!!

  • Thanks! =)

  • Thanks a lot. I'm learning the new tactical approach to chess caus of u!!!

  • You're welcome! Glad to hear of it. =)

  • totally cool. thanks for the excellent video!!

  • I appreciate the kind words. =)

  • great vids u should do more if ur got the time or whatnot

  • Thank for the compliment. =)

  • I have been playing chess for a while now, but I have always been a weak player because of bad openings. I recently took the opportunity to study under a Fide Master, and even though he is tutoring me personally, I have found that your videos are helping me as much as he is if not more. If I could thank you in a more personal way I would, and one day once I am a better player I would love to have a game with you, to see if I can match you. You will be a Grand Master someday! (if not already)

  • That was one of the nicest compliments I've received on here. Thanks for taking the time to relay that comment to me. =)

  • Wunderful! Thank you very much for your extremely instructive videos.

  • You're welcome AND thanks for such a nice compliment. =)

  • great videos =]

  • Thank you. =)
