  • what was the song at the end of the documentary? does anyone know?

  • When will this end?

  • Someone should be real cute and upload this documentary ;D

  • I've taken the simple approach. I stopped caring what the Christian deity cares about. Richard Dawkins (an atheist) got an apology from the British government about the Alan Turing treatment (because of his homosexuality).

  • Do Does same schools get u out for being a liar, thieves, fornicator, or any other sinner? If not that's what will make them hypocritical and fake Christians.

  • most of them would. and if they dont then they usually require repentance and different humiliating acts

  • What's your point here? Because you are comparing homosexuality with theft, etc. And that is not the point of this documentary at all.

On the other hand, if you lie (cheat on a test or paper) and are caught or if you rob in campus grounds, you will be kicked out and even prosecuted. And if they find out you're a fornicator if they don't kick you out they would probably label you and give you the cold shoulder too.

  • This is all nonsense private institutions have a right to make their own rules and expel individuals who violate said rules. It's called freedom of association and it is protected by the Constitution.

  • of course. thats why the gay students werent trying to argue theyre points in court. the simply are attempting to make life a little easier for christian lgbt students who find themselves trapped in a bad situation

  • Plato, the problem about this video is that, as the title suggests, it's only a trailer. This doesn't allow you to see the whole picture. I have seen the whole documentary, and at the beginning I thought the same thing as you. But when you see it all you understand that this goes beyond trying to challenge some university rule.

I invite you to see the whole documentary. Just google "Equality U LOGO" and click on the link that ends in "playlist.jhtml"

  • I have seen the whole documentary while fliping through the t.v a while back. I still think it is silly to walk onto private campuses and demand that they change the rules. If you are gay you should not apply to religious schools that you know prohibit homosexual activity because you are only asking for trouble. Some people were not allowed to graduate in the film and that suxs but you have to take responsiblity for your actions.

  • By your comment it seems you had already made up your mind after the first few minutes of the documentary, and although you saw the whole thing your mind and ears where closed to what they had to say. How different would it have been if you had replied: "You know what, I have seen it and I still believe that is was silly. HOWEVER, and even if I disapprove homosexual activity, I do understand CERTAIN/SOME aspects of their message. For example: I, II & II"

  • That would have shown that although you are committed to stand by your convictions and principles, you are also open to at least hear what the other has to say and even be able to hold a dialog. The rider's themselves were conscious that just to think that with their actions they were going to change the status quo was in fact silly. And as the ride progressed they were truly learning from the experience and they said several times that their main goal was to at least start a dialog

  • Make the universities stop ignoring that they had to address this issue, and be able to (in someway) reconsider what they were doing. And by the end of the doc some of them actually did change/modify some of their policies. On the other hand, no gay man or woman who has come to terms with their sexuality and have decided to separated themselves from the hate and animosity from family members, community, etc. would ever in their straight mind try to apply to a religious university

  • And after seeing the doc I don't believe it was the riders goal to "change the rules" so every gay could apply. No. For starters they wanted to denounce that some students were expelled just for being gay, forget about homosexual activity, it was just for having homosexual inclinations. And on the other hand how harmful and destructive the environment was for those still studying and were forced to be "in the closet", in fear, hiding their orientation

  • During the doc they played a speech from the president of North Central University warning that if they would ever meet a "nice gay", who looked like a family member, a church goer or a decent member of the community you had to know that they were just wolves in sheep clothes, and that behind the mask were "chained men wrapped in leather" and even went ahead and compared them to pedophiles. That is not only denigrating but also false and misleading

  • A product of ignorance, that promotes only division and hatred. This kind of attitude is what the riders were trying to challenge. Because how can a person or institution that claims to be following God's word be so cruel to close it's eyes to the fact there are gays within their families, church goers and exceptional members of community/student body and in the process victimize them with their gruesome comparisons, name labelings and most importantly their dismissal and exclusion?

  • It was because of the riders that BYU amended it's policy to "behavior instead of feelings or orientation".

This reply was long, but on the other hand you do say in your profile you are dedicated to the "free exchange of ideas" and that one should not hesitate to express one's point of view. I hope you read it all, with an open mind, and at least gave it some thought. For me this is it, I don't plan to turn this into a debate. Take care and God bless you and your family.
