It sucks that you can't record on Reason 5, because I really like Redrum. After using Reason's Drums + Guitar amp while recording through Audacity, much of the sound quality of Reason's drums are lost.
@ItsGottaBeFuckinSaid Yeah but Reason 6 has full and unlimited audio tracks. The 30 seconds you're referring to in Reason 5 is for recording samples into the samplers.
@TheSpinalMushroom Yeah you can. Are you on a mac or windows? On my mac, I just choose the driver called something like "Built in Input/Output" and then the internal mic is my input source.
@TheSpinalMushroom Yeah, I know. I just got Reason 5 and I'm still recording guitar with Audacity. Do I need to seperately get Record 1.5 just to record sounds?
@OmarBFG No, to record samples in Reason 5 all you need is Reason 5. If you want to record full audio tracks, you'd need Reason 6 which has that ability. But Reason 5 has live sampling and the sample editor already.
@OmarBFG I'd contact our support guys for help. They're experts at that sorta thing. For example, if you're mic is a USB mic and you have another soundcard for your output you'll need to create something called an
"aggregated device." They can explain. Head over to our website's support section and you can get in contact. Good luck!
@PropellerheadSW , my computer does not show any input in the audio preferences window , i mean nothing , i'v change all the audio cards and nothing appears int he input chanels says 0 of 0 how can i record samples if mi computer mics aren not being recognized what are my choices ??
@DoubleMannings Yes, among other uses. Samples recorded on devices like the NN19 and NN-XT samplers inside Reason are automatically mapped across the keyboard after they're recorded. So in this example, the flute would be playable instantly after recording. We have a tutorial video showing how live sampling works that you could check out and it explains the whole process and shows how creative it can be. youtube.com/watch?v=JZp4ihGyrpM
@DoubleMannings Any MIDI controller keyboard will work with Reason, yes. Some work better than others. If they have lots of knobs, buttons, faders on them you'll want to see if they have Reason Remote support. Almost all keyboards in stores do, however.
@TheS2LoVeYouS2 On September 30th we'll be releasing Reason 6. It will do everything Record does today so you can upgrade on the 30th and stay in the Reason program if you want to. Alternatively, you can get the Record for Reason owners upgrade today and get a free upgrade to Reason 6 when it gets released on the 30th if you want to get going already and not wait the 3 weeks.
@bullibeatz Probably a lot to try and fit into a youtube comment but I'd recommend our forums which are helpful or our support guys which are experts. If you have a USB mic, you may need to create an "aggregate device." If not, there may be some other wiring or setting error going on. propellerheads.se[slash]support
@fabmannatje did you flip the rack around and connect the audio output to the sampling input?...if not then do so (hit tab, go all the way up to your rack and reconnect the wires)...if yes...well...idk...
@fabmannatje If you have a USB mic, then there's some other stuff you need to do. You would need to create an "aggregated device." There are tutorials out there for how to do it. If you have an analog mic with a soundcard or interface, then you just should wire it up and be good to go. CountRicola's advice on wiring the sampling input would be correct in that case.
@PropellerheadSW one more question when i sample say a loop from a record, will i be able to export it out as a wav or aiff, to throw it into Recycle??????
@MaggianoTV Yup. You definitely can do that. You'd sample the record, assign the sample to a sampling device in reason (Redrum would work for your purposes, or a pad in Kong), and then just create a note lane in the sequencer that triggers your sample to play. Now just set loop markers for that short length of time in your sequencer and choose "Export Loop as Audio File..." in the File menu. From there you can bring it over to Recycle and get funky with it. :)
Ok so im trying to lock my devices in reason 5 but im still getting some interaction from an rpg-8 that im using? Its just playing over everything why is this???
Hi All, Unsure if anyone can help me I am stuck? I plug in my condenser to my audiobox interface to line input 1 using xlr to xlr with phantom power on. Now i think this channel is mono only so when i record in reason it only gives me the right channel with nice sound. how do i make the recording or sample play stereo or through both monitor L & R channels. Do I have to manualy edit each sample recorded? The other weird thing is only input one on my audiobox works line 2 gets no sound? HELP
@RandomPipes Sampling and recording differ in their usage AFTER the moment of capture. Yes, you use your mic for both but the difference is that recording a normal performance on an audio track is a linear process. You record it and play it back at one point in a song. Sampling records a sound but assigns it to a sample device's keyboard where it can be triggered and played back in various pitches, rhythms, and at any point in the song. Check out our sampling micro tutorial for more info.
@PropellerheadSW so i've got Samplitude Music Studio right now for learning everything. Can i just sample something and put it on my keyboard with Reason 5? Or can i do with other programs, add ons? because 300 euros for reason may be little too much for me. Have you got cheaper versions?
can i record my real guitar using propellerhead record/reason? i mean, plugging my guitar to the computer and using the reason/record to record a track?
@TractorTheBassist Yes, absolutely. And you'll get a Line 6 amp simulator in Record that will give you amplifier, speaker, and mic simulations. They are added after the fact so you can record your guitar plain and then change the tone, distortion, and amplifier type after the fact.
@drummerboyNYC No it's certainly possible but check your audio settings. There is a "built in output" and a "built in output + built in input." They're listed separately. You want the one with the inputs also. Then just make sure your mic is selected in your system preferences and it should work fine. I do it all the time on my mac laptop.
@dayv619 I have spoken to our support guys and from my understanding, USB mixers/mics need to have something called an "aggregate device" created in the settings. I'll get instructions for you and the other people who have this issue. /ryan
hmmm again the same problem, i have asio V2 and tryed pretty much al the settings but it doesnt work. I can see that i have 8 active inputs, but there is no movement what so ever.... am i doin anything wrong? with cool edit pro and other programs it al works fine without the asio drivers! please tellme. i bought reason just for this new feature... =(
Reason is unbeatable. I just got it a week ago and I have never seriously produced before, but I already used live sampling on my first beat, replaced the snare with a fingersnap (layered and paned). I can't believe how userfriendly it all is and how inspiring. E-Mail from support also helped me to get my G-track hooked up (need to create an aggregate device). Reason has brought me back to music again and I am free at last! Thank you to the whole propellerhead crew, you guys all deserve an award
@MrFufumann Totally serious when I say: Our award is comments from people like you. A main driving principle we have is to help people make more and better music. So hearing that from you is great for us. Thanks for taking the time to write and I hope you enjoy many more tracks, beats, and full productions!
A great step forward for reason - it means I can purchase an analogue synthi and rout the signal via my Mbox via the ASIO; I mean I love Thor and Subtractor but the GUI is small and I want to get my hands on real knobs occasionally, to save my poor eyes for one thing!
Well guys, i have this problem...before recording a song all sounds good, instruments, effects,..but once the riff its recorded (lets say a synth riff) i hear it so low (volume), or sometimes you can't hear anything, i don't know if the issue comes to my m-audio 25 or definitely i have a wrong configuration in reason 5...
Very very super sick ass video. I love how you guys play around with sound and make something happen. Here I am, thinking I have to follow a line to make a decent sound and here you guys go making it happen all over the studio. Much success to you guys and keep up the good work, wow I'm still blown away!!!!
Can anyone help with a little problem I have with using Serato with reason. When I have the serato interface open I can record into reason, the only problem is that while the serato is open, reason does not play any audio out, the track plays, but there is no audio?? As soon as I close serato, reason plays again?? I have installed the asio4all driver.
Cool video. What are you using to soundproof room?I have my setup in an extra bedroom with no doors.Apt complex wants to charge $450 for upgrade to add two cheap azz "hollow doors".And 22yr old son's room is next door with music seeping thru the walls. Not sure if that is a good price($450) and can't find a decent carpenter.
Reason is the only software that has a perfect track record of software upgrades. Every version has added invaluable updates that are so exciting. I can't even imagine how I used Reason back at 2.0 anymore.
Yo you guy are fuckin awesum man... honestly the whole video kept me jumpin... Keep it UP BOYS. Bruv after this video i am defo buyin REASON 5 with Record 1.5
I was very excited to use the live sampling tool (god I'm so tired of recording into audacity, cutting in recycle, and importing into reason). However, Reason does not seem to detect any "Active Input Channels" in the Audio section of the preferences. I can't get any levels in the sampling input at the top of the rack. I use the standard Realtek AC97 onboard. Any ideas?
Hello, I've never used MIDI software, but I'm just wondering... can you tune each note seperately, so that you can play in any temperement? Or, are all instruments restricted to equal temperament?
@iamnotkris2 Yeah but @yeekid's question was about a mac. On a PC you select your sound driver. If you have a built in sound card without an ASIO driver you get ASIO4ALL.
Propellerhead is like apple they fucking rule the world. I'm pretty happy that I invest with Propellerhead products. It change my life and for a person who can't afford all the hardware. I am a witness, that Propellerhead is so crazy that it's been use work with some of our main Hip Hop players. Check out my vid on youtube. Type in piranhas eating shrimp. Look for fortgreene31. The music you hear in that vid is a beat i made. I got better with it i just have to update a vid. Peace
@KRobertB90 im not suree...but all i know is that go to edit and click preferences....choose the audio option...connect ur soundcard and sellect the name of ur soundcard...i guess it'll pick up evrything frm ur mic input den...
how do they get clear audio coming into the speaker? i want a set up like that. i hate layering mp3s over my videos. can someone shine some light on that? thanks in advanced!
I got a demo on Record 1.5 and when i switch to my m-audio fast track external sound card I dont get any signal from it at all from the mic or the guitar. In preference you can see m-adudio device but when selected nothing happens :( someone tell me why :(?
What is the difference between reason 5 and Record 1.5? In Record 1.5 you have all that is in reason 5? If you are going you creat a song you could use Record 1.5 as it was reason 5?
@superpu2 Reason 5 and Record 1.5 are two parts of a suite. Reason 5 has the advanced synths, Loop Players, Drum Machines, and adv. effects. Record 1.5 has Neptune pitch adjust, audio tracks, SSL style mixer, its own instruments (piano, bass, organ type of stuff), and Line 6 amp emulation. Together when run as a Duo everything is available in Record's environment but it requires licenses for both apps. Bands and musicians might only need Record. Producers could use both for max potential.
@KRobertB90 It does work if you don't have ASIO drivers installed. You can output through DirectAudio. I have Sound Blaster Audigy. Anyway, I started with FLS because it was easier. I tried Reason, but it was rather confusing. Some time ago I switched to Reason and it felt very logical and easy straight away because of the time I spent with FLS. And I forgot to mention that ASIO4ALL stopped partially working some time ago. It doesn't detect any inputs, but the Creative ASIO drivers do work.
@KRobertB90 Err, you said that "if there's no ASIO driver installed" in your previous post, amirite? Also, stop being a fucking jerk. By the way, try bringing up the additional inputs in Reason. Your inputs may be assigned to some high channel numbers for some reason. If you didn't try that already.
@KRobertB90 Go ahead and install one, then! Of course ASIO won't work if there's no driver installed. Download ASIO4ALL and that's it. And it's not the only program. At least FL Studio can't use the inputs on my card when ASIO is not enabled.
@PropellerheadSW I don't know how to connect my condensor/XLR microphone to Reason 5...I have an audio interface but I don't know how to get it to communicate with Reason 5...
@coolum11 Yes Reason 5 also does live sampling. There is a live sampling input on the back of the rack. Check out our Micro Tutorial on Live Sampling here on youtube to get an idea of how it works. The process is the same for both Reason and Record. :)
This is cool and all, but Propellerheads should give away Recycle for free to all registered Reason owners. Otherwise Ableton Live is starting to look tempting.
Click my name to view COMMODORE 64 SAMPLES PACK: SFX SOUND EXPANDER IN 'C'. If you click the link below it you are also taken to a special selection of SID sounds and effects taken from famous games and applications.
@KRobertB90 thank you alot because now i just got an Asio driver so now i can actually use the live sampling function thanks to u because i would of never read thru the manual i never have im more of a hands on figure it out myself person but this i had no idea
@KRobertB90 It works with the microphone input on the sound card. Check your audio settings. There might be two options, one for built in output and one for built in output + input. Not sure you're exact situation but it definitely works with the microphone input on the soundcard.
@PropellerheadSW i'm having the same issue and i checked with all of my soundcards which i have three and none of them are detecting any audio input? how could i check for the built in settings besides going thru the preference settings because that was no help
ok to everyone bitchin about reason needs recycle.
I UPDATED TO REASON 5 TODAY N IM HERE ON REASON 5 N IVE BEEN ON IT ALL DAY!
N THERE ARE LOADS OF WAYS TO CHOP SAMPLES IN KONG! ITS NOT LIKE IN REASON 4 WERE CHOPPIN WAS SEMI DIFFICULT IN NN-XT!
I HAVE JUST RECORDED ME PLAYIN MY 15 YEAR OLD HARDWARE KEYBOARD VIA LIVE SAMPLING INTO KONG N SPLIT THE LICK I PLAYED OVER THE 16 PADS IVE FOUND AT LEAST 3 EASY WAYS OF DOIN THIS!
YOU CAN CHOP SAMPLES IN KONG AND SAVE THEM AS KITS!
I am selling Cubase 5 AMS Full software for £30 (non-registerable, unboxed) - Email: Blackbird_technologyhotmail.co.uk - no fuss. Paypal, cheque etc
lol ur tellin him dont do it n his name is UTubeKEYGEN
lol kum on the guy is like a full time pirate!
jokes on him tho kuz when u dont pay for software u develop gear lust, ur always downloadin the next peice of software for free, where as if you only had 1 daw you would take time to master it n actually make music!
i know a guy who has cracks of reason 5, sonar 8.5, live/suite 8, fl studio 9, reaper 3.6, pro tools hd, an so on n over 600 vsts n hes never made a good song!
@ceetheproducer I hear you bro...started down that path myself a few years ago, but quickly kicked the habit. Stuck to a couple pieces of software and been bangin' tracks ever since.
go through and read some of the things people say. the things people say about reason 5 are so stupid it blows my mind. its a DAW its cool no its not complicated unless u want it to be and it can sound as good as you want it to now shutup you idiots
I LOVE IT!!!! I FINALLY SEE WHAT MY BEATS ARE LACKING!!!! SUCKS I DIDNT KNOW THIS $ YEARS INTO MAKING MY BEATS!!! THEY STILL BANG BUT I HAVE SOME NEW SHIT COMING SOON!!!!
Propellerheads are poised to become the next "standard" (like Alesis was in the days of ADAT) .Believe it or not, this video illustrates the ORIGINAL meaning of the word "Producer"! its almost a lost art...play the sounds, chop, comp, and arrange the instruments you play...samplers are excellent tools for "production"....but have now taken much of the "play" (w.o.r.k.) out of it...Hey, its the 21st century, right? : ) rock on!!!
I have been playing around with the demo version of Reason 5 and man i must say the sampling capabilities of each instrument is off the chain, you can sample right into the New Rex loop player. Will check out today if you can splice the sample up right in the Rex Loop player.
When Reason & Record gets on the fly slicing in the sequencer, a graincloud sampler/synth i.e an advanced Malstrom with sample in, automation/parameter drag and drop, drag & drop knob/slider/XY PAD/programmable joystick combinators, dedicated beat repeat/glitch module, a proper spectrum analyzer with band cuts/real time modulation and better GUI representation of effects parameters I'd buy it without hesitation.
im so happy i upgraded to record for reason users, first a free reason 4 upgrade now and reason 5 upgrade. i love you. but please, can you the redrum expandable like the fruity loops beat grids would be perfectamundo then!
It sucks that you can't record on Reason 5, because I really like Redrum. After using Reason's Drums + Guitar amp while recording through Audacity, much of the sound quality of Reason's drums are lost.

(sorry for my bad english btw)

Very very super sick ass video. I love how you guys play around with sound and make something happen. Here I am, thinking I have to follow a line to make a decent sound and here you guys go making it happen all over the studio. Much success to you guys and keep up the good work, wow I'm still blown away!!!!

I have an M-audio usb microphone that i would like to record with but i can't connect it to reason or record...HELP PLEASE
hightide791 1 year ago
@hightide791 First place to start: Do you have an ASIO driver for the mic? ASIO4ALL is a generic ASIO driver for PC sound peripherals, if you don't.
PropellerheadSW 1 year ago
@PropellerheadSW um idk i have the same problem to with my mic it works and evrything it juss wont show up on reasons when i look at input

DJScizorHandz 1 year ago
@DJScizorHandz it's probably an issue with rewire.

Any ideas?
DJAknot 1 year ago
@DJAknot If you're not using an ASIO sound driver you'll need one. ASIO4ALL is a universal driver.

Hello, I've never used MIDI software, but I'm just wondering... can you tune each note seperately, so that you can play in any temperement? Or, are all instruments restricted to equal temperament?

except with a pc
iamnotkris2 1 year ago

Peace

What is the difference between reason 5 and Record 1.5? In Record 1.5 you have all that is in reason 5? If you are going you creat a song you could use Record 1.5 as it was reason 5?
superpu2 1 year ago
@superpu2 Reason 5 and Record 1.5 are two parts of a suite. Reason 5 has the advanced synths, Loop Players, Drum Machines, and adv. effects. Record 1.5 has Neptune pitch adjust, audio tracks, SSL style mixer, its own instruments (piano, bass, organ type of stuff), and Line 6 amp emulation. Together when run as a Duo everything is available in Record's environment but it requires licenses for both apps. Bands and musicians might only need Record. Producers could use both for max potential.

PropellerheadSW 1 year ago
@KRobertB90 Yup, I said it supports audio out. I didn't talk about audio input. But now ASIO4ALL suddenly started working again. Cool for me :p
liikennekartio 1 year ago
@KRobertB90 It does work if you don't have ASIO drivers installed. You can output through DirectAudio. I have Sound Blaster Audigy. Anyway, I started with FLS because it was easier. I tried Reason, but it was rather confusing. Some time ago I switched to Reason and it felt very logical and easy straight away because of the time I spent with FLS. And I forgot to mention that ASIO4ALL stopped partially working some time ago. It doesn't detect any inputs, but the Creative ASIO drivers do work.
liikennekartio 1 year ago
@KRobertB90 Err, you said that "if there's no ASIO driver installed" in your previous post, amirite? Also, stop being a fucking jerk. By the way, try bringing up the additional inputs in Reason. Your inputs may be assigned to some high channel numbers for some reason. If you didn't try that already.
liikennekartio 1 year ago
@KRobertB90 Go ahead and install one, then! Of course ASIO won't work if there's no driver installed. Download ASIO4ALL and that's it. And it's not the only program. At least FL Studio can't use the inputs on my card when ASIO is not enabled.

It posible to record a sample without a Record 1.5 ? I have reason 5 and i would like to record some guitar samples how can i do that ?
coolum11 1 year ago
@coolum11 Yes Reason 5 also does live sampling. There is a live sampling input on the back of the rack. Check out our Micro Tutorial on Live Sampling here on youtube to get an idea of how it works. The process is the same for both Reason and Record. :)
PropellerheadSW 1 year ago
This is cool and all, but Propellerheads should give away Recycle for free to all registered Reason owners. Otherwise Ableton Live is starting to look tempting.

The Reason 5 "KONG" is the bomb!!
klowe007 1 year ago
@KRobertB90 It works with the microphone input on the sound card. Check your audio settings. There might be two options, one for built in output and one for built in output + input. Not sure you're exact situation but it definitely works with the microphone input on the soundcard.
PropellerheadSW 1 year ago
@PropellerheadSW i'm having the same issue and i checked with all of my soundcards which i have three and none of them are detecting any audio input? how could i check for the built in settings besides going thru the preference settings because that was no help
