This song is full of emotion. Written for a friend who was dear to them.
For them to be emotional and cry for Jasmine shows that he is deeply miss.
I too get emotional listening to song and I continue to cry for my son who passed away last Christmas. It seems like it just happen yesterday. Even if I only got to hold him in my arms for the few hours that he was here, there was already a bond and the sadness never goes away no matter how time has past.
i just realized i see Twiggyay trolling on a LOT of jrock videos. siriously this guy can find some shit in every single video and its really annoying.... Btw awesome performance
but why is the audience so silent at the end? i know its a song to just listen to, not shout along too, but still, afterwards, i still would have cheered or clapped :P
this song makes me cry, the members are so passionate and when kamijo falls to his knees it made me cry more, i love how the end as the curtains fall it looks like eyes closing....it also looks like they are all about to cry which makes it sadder, R.I.P eternal member, Jasmine You
@Ryuusa and @Twiggyay How dare the both of you say it is all fake. It's obvious the both of you have not the slightest idea of how it feels to lose someone. My grandfather is dying right now and I am crying from dusk till dawn, then why would their crying be fake?
My grandpa is dying and I've been singing this song everyday since I know he may have only a week left... but I also sing for Jasmine You. I still can't believe he is gone, just gone. Every morning I wake up and think why, why him? It's just so hard to believe. To wake up one morning and see it everywhere, R.I.P. Jasmine You. The world will never seem the same...
@juliocesarblack91 well actually my name is Eva, I just copied the name of someone I 'used' to be a fan of. Well, my grandpa died now already, but I just felt really emotional at that moment. but really, someone dying isn't something to laugh about. I will be turning seventeen at the 5th of january and I am from the Netherlands. Anything else? Bai-bai
This is so beautiful. I lost it the first time I watched this. I may have only been a Versailles fan for 7 months, but it hurts knowing I will never have a chance at meeting Jasmine You, he's one of my idols<3
Musicians write music about how they feel and dedicating a song for a fallen bandmate and friend is nothing out of the ordinary and actually quite fitting for them to write a song about it. Its great they didn't split due to his death, and I doubt Jasmine would have wanted that, and I'm sure he's glad that they are still making great music and found a great replacement for him.
Some of these comments are just uncalled for. Why would anyone feel the need to put on an act of grieving over a death of a close friend for sympathy from fans? Jasmine was a truly beautiful soul and they loved him. To lose someone close to them suddenly when they were at the turning point of their career, of course it would get noticed ever more. It's not their fault Jasmine passed on at the time. He will always be remembered & loved by Versailles & their fans.
One of the more painful songs to listen to ever and not because its bad either...far from it actually!
Its one of the more painful songs a person can listen to because any and everyone can relate to losing someone important in their life and they lost a dear friend and bandmate in Jasmine.
Sometimes bands will state that someone is "gone but not forgotten" and in their case Jasmine is neither. I have the same feelings about a grandfather that passed when I was in High School years ago (tbc)
@Ch1va103 - You're being bigoted and close-minded. There is nothing wrong with men wearing clothing considered to be feminine. Likewise, it is perfectly fine for women to wear clothing considered to be masculine. I also find it sickening how you refer to clothing choices as a "role" for men and women to play.
@temarishinobi345 I became a Versailles fan a week after jasmines death, and the reason i discovered them is that i kept seeing "RIP Jasmine" all over Japanese music videos.
They definately exploited his death to a certain degree with Serenade.
I cry almost every time I hear this song, I cried when I first heard it, even though I didn't know lyrics (I don't know Japanese :(), I cried when I read translation, and I cried now when I watched this. You can think I'm weird but this song simply makes the tears fall and I can't even explain why... I heard of Versailles after Jasmine's death, and I don't know them personally but still... Somehow, this song just makes me cry.
And, I don't think they're acting. But that is just my opinion.
They lost a band member, a friend, someone who was like family to them. How are they overreacting by shedding a tear or two? They rarely perform this song live, and when they do it must be hard for them. This is the only video I've been able to find of them performing this song live. It's not like they profited very much from making the PV for this song, either. It doesn't even have it's own single. To say that they're milking Jasmine's death is absurd.
As for the crying, let them. it's not like it's forbidden or anything. even though they cry or not, they still feel genuine sadness when they sing it, because no ballad song, not even Sympathia, comes close to the melancholic feeling of Serenade, and to think Hizaki did the bass parts on the CD recording, it's like a double dagger for Hizaki, Jasmine's long time friend.
I know they loved Jasmine very much but as for the "Hizaki crying-moment"... it's fake.
I think they're exaggerating this whole grief thing to a bit more than feelings, Jasmine's death made versailles' popularity skyrocket and they know if they mourn him and make a song and look sad while performing it they will gather sympathy, fans and money.
Of course, i know they miss him, but they (or warner) could stop exploiting it.
@Twiggyay I dint see them perform overly...well they are a visual kei band so they have to perform some way or the other .Hizaiki s crying isnt too prominent and kamijo always does stuff on stage!
@Twiggyay If that were the case , everything entertaining shud be dropped.Cos they re false too.Actors are false :O TELEVISION MEDIA EVERYTHING IS AT FAULT!
@Twiggyay They don't actually "associate" it. The term is "dedicate", because Jasmine is something for Kamijo. Weeks before Jasmine passed away, he drank with Kamijo and a couple of friends (so says Jasmine's blog), and there he led out everything in his chest, including his plans of Versailles' future. But that obviously didn't happen, so this was Kamijo's reply for those plans, that he'll faithfully carry it.
@matakame I'm not doubting the song's content, but i see it as a way of exploiting Jasmine's death. and don't misunderstand, i like this song, i even learnt it on guitar.
If they were genuinely crying i would have nothing against that but it's obviously fake, when i saw them live i showed up 7hours in advance to get a place in front of Hizaki and i did. what i saw wasn't crying and tears, all he did was the sttrum-hand-up-in-the-air-with-a-melancholic-look.
@Twiggyay Why couldn't it be genuine crying? Toshi from X Japan started crying during Forever Love when they were playing at Hide's memorial (or funeral, I'm not sure).
And why should they cry at every concert? If Hizaki didn't cry at the concert you went to, that doesn't mean the crying before was an act, it just meant that he wasn't as sad as he was more recently after Jasmine's death.
@JaketheSnakeESP I don't think they asociate this song with Jasmine, why would they connect a song they recently made with a person they've known for several years.
@JaketheSnakeESP I know it's dedicated to Jasmine but that's just the image they portrait outwards, in real life i think that the song has no meaning to them.
@Twiggyay I'm sorry, but I really need to get this out of my chest. I don't think you really understand what the song, or what I really meant. 1) The exploiting part that you maybe thinking is done in part by fans who just grieve, for lack of better term. 2) They're not crying, I know. They may not associate it to him, but it's for him. Like an elegy. 3) To better understand what we all meant in here, the song's enough. You may have listened to it, but haven't felt it.
@Twiggyay i have been reading all of ur comments and u do have a point to a certain extent. but lets face the reality; its a sad song indeed. how would u feel if they had mild or possibly no emotional expressions while performing this song? i think in the realm of art we were suppose to ventilate/express our feelings in a bit dramatic way. that drama would make some feel consoled and some feel exaggerated (which were all reasonable by nature).
@Twiggyay and that leads to you saying they were exploiting from Jasmine's death which is way out of league for a devoted Versailles' fan in my opinion. we dont know them personally and shouldnt make conclusive judgments just based on their performances and musical works...btw, they are human beings too and cant be perfect all the time. just a seemingly fake expression from ur observation or they didnt cry at one concert doesnt mean they cannot grieve over long periods of time.
@BlueRoseOrchestra This argument goes in circles, i've stated my opinion.
Yes i do think they are exploiting it to some degree, but crying and acting up a bit at special concerts like the annual C.C lemon and at the Jasmine You memorial is perfectly fine but faking this at all times deceiving fans and PRETENDING to be overly sad is wrong in my opinion which I am allowed to have.
@Twiggyay that is a deep insult to any music artist, saying the song has no meaning for them. I know for a fact all of Versailles music has meaning to them or else they wouldnt be able to deliver such beautiful or heartfelt music. really if your going to say things like that then just dont comment at all because what you say can really hurt someone emotionally.
@Ryuuusa If the song actually means something to them. i would've got it if they maybe shed a tear the first 5 times they performed it but they would have came over the emotional stuff after that because it would have became routine and it' s just another song they had to do the get the gig done.
When i saw them live i remember Hizakis false stare into the air when doing the verses, i could do that too.
My point is, they could tone the crying a tad down and actually express real emotions if any.
This moved me so much. You can FEEL the sadness in Kamijo's voice. And when he fell to his knees I felt like crying. This was the song that got me into Versailles, and it's one of their best. Because even though it's not hard and fast like some of their other songs, this one has the most emotion and meaning. I'm so glad I found this band.
