Like so many, I just grew up knowing nothing else. In our area it was very much one sided but obviously that wasn't the case everywhere. Thank goodness MOST people have moved on and may those who are still at it end up in prison where they belong. Brilliant, well made video that had a huge effect on many.
remember watching this video many years ago in belfast, how times change for the better. hopefully thats the end of the troubles on either side, to many good people have lost there lifes.
@cfc0403 Well the father being involved in the IRA, missed his son growing up in and out of Jail. Although due to his past actions his son was then targeted at the end of the video, as retribution for the killings in the bar.
@cfc0403 You'd have to be Irish to understand, mate. But, what do I know. I'm just a plastic Paddy that lived in Ireland for a while. Swazy911 gave a better explanation.
I can remember this video having such a huge effect on me as a kid, like I am talking major. Some PSAs do work so I am glad they made this, to this day that song brings back memories of a very very troubled time in mine and many other peoples lives. I just hope we dont fall back into that way of life, we can be so much better.
It was Harry Chapin's song alright, but it was re-recorded in London with another singer for the ad (Harry died in 1981 BTW). It was shot mostly in and around Glasgow - some exteriors were around Belfast. I was the producer.
Take the part of Sweden u live in - draw a line around it from the Norway border cutting a sixth of Sweden into a new country called Eastern Norway. Now imagine that years and years ago Norway ruled this area but now the majority of people living there call themselves Swedish and do not want to be part of Norway. But there is a Terrorist group killing police, soldiers, innocent people etc 2 get their way. Would u switch Nationalities so easily? If the economy suited u would u become Nordish?
i think if the 32 counties had have been one country (ireland) since michael collins first went to london to ratify the treaty back in 1922,i believe the protesants, who would have actually been a minority in terms of the whole of ireland, would have got better treatment than the catholics did by them!therefore no war would have been necessary!the english had the power to prevent every single bit of that conflict! however, they dont like losing, to the point where they would rather see people die!
I think the number of misinformed statements, bigotry, and general hatred expressed by many of the people commenting on this video highlights the need for a more cooperative approach in Northern Ireland. Ask the family and friends of PSNI officer Kerr who was murdered because of his choice to join the police force. This advert had a huge response within hours of being aired. Children are brought into this world oblivious to hatred and violence...
Its easy to see why the fighting needed to stop but it harder to see why the fighting most go on until the mission is done .We don't have to do it with killing but it must be seen to the end other wise the death of all the boys that gave their lives for freedom would have meant nothing
If this ad tells us anything it is that the vast majority of people in Northern Ireland want peace. The main paramilitaries have disbanded and are now fighting with political debate and not guns. There may or may not be a united Ireland but either way it will be in the ballot box.
Unfortunately there remains a small but determined group of twisted individuals with contempt for humanity. These individuals must be isolated because their violent agenda will do nothing for Ireland.
So davetonia1233, hereby know as Mr. Redcoat, who the the hell are you?
You oppose American intervention in Ireland. Wow Mr Redcoat, how very noble of you. Your Redcoat worship is so good and honorable. Your Redcoats burned New York and WashingtonDC, and all the American patriots who died in your prisons. Mr. Redcoat, many people in America care very much what Britain does and does not do in Ireland. We got enough food Mr. Redcoat. Us from Norfork, the east of England and us from County Antrim.
@scottnsanfran yeah so what. I am a protestant. I support britain. It doesnt mean I went round shooting people. I never funded people who did. How many yanks from places like boston did. The blood is on their hands as much as any provo oruvf man.
@boy1belfast The Provos will get that wee touting bastard.I dont support the reals or the contos but if they shot him im ok with that :) Still a target you bastard
I remember watching these on TV years ago, they still make me sad. I'm so glad we have are making strides in the right direction. Lets learn to love each other for Christ sake...
so its 2010 is britain leaving very emotional video is britain leaving the key, the everything is england leaving they are the murder, the death the famine when is england leaving? cool vid from a irish american boy, who got enough food to live to tell and say we are not going away
they british wanted the UDR to do just as they did, the UDR/RIR were sectarian catholic haters who were in the most part uvf mebers or other loyalist group members and the UDR was a way of getting guns to the "nutters" as they didnt have to play by the rules and be accounted for,,bit like in afganistan using local malitias so dont try and pretend that the RIR/UDR who were the B-speical before that again are anything other than terrorists themselves
The truth of the matter is that, especially nowdays, the laws of Eire and the UK are so similar and the level of mutual friendship between the two such that there's hardly any difference between North and South unless you're looking for it.
Therefore all these Provo, RIRA and CIRA, as well as UDA, UVF and for all we know IVF are just self-important macho tossers being cunts with no real ends, just means.
@Rhynome I am afraid their is a very big difference between north and south unfortunately. You speak of eire the republic. Not the six counties of the north. The level of friendship between the six counties of the north is not the same as the perceived friendship between the republic of eire and the uk. By the way, you know how the republic came into being don't you ? Certainly not with the mindset that you have !
funny how people spout off about the UDR and how it was full of UVF / UDA terrorists. they say these things like they have have all the numbers and know all the facts. my father was a part time member of the UDR, who was committed to protecting both communities, even though he came under constant attack from the catholics. the UDR inadvertently provided easy targets for the IRA, so in order to justify the killings of UDR soldiers, the 'loyalist-collusion' theory was magnified dispropotioinately
The films characters are not meant to belong to one side or another, everything in it is generic, no flags, banners, slogans or murals are ever seen. Which in my opinion is a good thing, terrorism is terrorism in my book, no matter which side they support.
There is chance he could be a member of a loyalist terroritst organisation ( UDA or UVF) and the fact there is no flag on the coffin leaves it for either side. It was an anti-terrorists ad.
Fair point ajsnr1, I think your right. But I served in Northern Ireland and I know for a fact that videos like this opened peoples eyes to what was going on, and hopefully helped.
duffy belongs behind bars 4 murdering innocent soldier's..if he was so smart and gud at wot he did how cum they failed 2 get away with..it aint that hard 2 burn a car out.wots he gona say next, that the evidence was planted..grow a set and take responsibility 4 wot u done 2 those families..h.r.f..r.i.p boys u did the county proud
Finally, someone's posted this ad where it is in sync.
Unfortunately, from some of the posts here, it's clear some in Northern Ireland haven't moved on.
Especially cringe-worthy to see teenagers glorifying terrorism. That children seem to think the IRA were anything other than callous murderers and back that up with a twisted revisionist history to suit that agenda suggests while there's much progress on the surface, deep down little has changed.
well done 0xbecax0 thats the biggest loada shite i've seen..(an i argue with yanks).
Wind yer neck in ......and before you go off on one i've lived my life in good oul Norn Iron so i know (see the spelling of know - as in to have knowledge....not no ya daft sod).
i remember this song when it came out, i think i was about 5 or 6, it used to make me cry my eyes out and used to hide behind the chair crying. looking at this ad now, it bring back terrible memories (even though i was young) and reminds me of all my wee fallen friends. rip everyone. miss you all still x
This is a really well made advert, I remember it from years ago, it doesn't discriminate against either side. It really makes you think, and gives me goosebumps to watch it.
doesnt matter what tradition or religion your from this advert graphically puts the troubles into prospective alot of men and women had thier lives destroyed due to needless deaths or having family members rot in prision cells lets pray to god we never slip back to them dark days ever again
I remember this commercial on U-TV between programs, it was shown in 1993 and during the same year Ugly Kid Joe had the same song on their album. Which everytime I hear the song I think of the commercial.
Powerful and hard hitting images. I was living in Eglington near to Greysteel in 1993. Ironically and tragically the Rising Sun Massacre (Greysteel) happened when these adverts were current.
I was seven years old when i first saw this ad,scared the shit out of me........,everytime i hear the cats in the cradle song it reminds me of this ad..powerful stuff...
The Catholics in the north were kept down by the loyalist community, had no rights and couldnt get a lot of jobs, treated like second class citizens,in much the same way black people were in America in the 50s and 60s...,doesnt matter if loyalist community wants to call themselves British or not,the rest of the world see's them as Irish Paddy's...,born in Ireland, have Irish accents...,great ad,violence was wrong on both sides of the community, especially when the innocent died
Flip! I heard this song a few minutes ago over the internet and immediately I linked it to something to do with NI, so I looked it up on youtube and what do you know? I remember this ad, must've been like 5 when I watched it. I think there was another one with Turn Turn Turn as the song.
I for one am glad that the troubles are behind us and let's hope that it stays that way.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
to be honest fair play to the IRA shit happens death is a part of life .. y live nat to die? the brits got what they needed the fucking brits came and TOOK over ireland took our houses and the thought they would get away with it! the onli thing the IRA did wrong was stop! but its not over yet believe me one day it will all start up again .. if only the IRA was still up and running like it used to be i no for sure id be most likly apart of it!!
bullshit this showed us in a way we could relate to that the real "victims" were our children regardless wether brit or irish , green or orange all suffered the same !
you seem to know a lot for a 15yo schoolgirl - ffs if your age is right you were about 3 or 4yo when the good friday agreement was signed - hardly a vetern republican are you LOL
16 now thank you .. maybe i was just a child but my family was apart of it all.. i no alot about the history of ireland..! im no republican as i go to a intergrated high school and have many m8s mixed race but i will always no the IRA were right to do what they did! the brits should never of took over ireland! so yea dont try tell me what i no and what i should no as i bet i no more about it than you do!
No offence but your school isn't teaching you too well when you can't even spell "know' properly and furthermore, the fact that you glorify terrorist murderers says more about you than anything else.
If a referendum was to take place tomorrow the vast majority of catholics would wish Northern Ireland to remain esp given the economic situation in the republic.
What has the ira given us? 30 plus years or murder destruction and mayhem dont try to make them out to be saints, they are far from it as are all paramilitaries.
well wait a sec, why have they killed people why was there war in ireland? yes because of the brits coming over thinking they can just kill of innocent people and take our land! the IRA were only doing what was right! and yes they have done things in the past that was no need for like the omagh bomb but even that wasnt the way it was planned they didnt mean to kill any1! i dnt agree with war but it cases like this it has to be done! people cnt just our land from us!
lol they killed people because the didn't agree with them and/or their policies, most normal people when they have a disagreement don't murder each other and for you to say that murder is right somehow, makes me feel sorry for you.Of course they didn't mean to kill anyone with the omagh bomb or any others - yeah right and parking a car with a 500lb bomb in it is not going to harm anyone - get real.
the aim of every IRA bomb in the troubles was to cuase destruction of property.......and you make it out as if the IRA had a disagreement with somebody in a bar and decided to kill people......i think it was just a little more than a disagreement, maybe a fight for freedom.
Oh fuck off dkr...people have had enough of your kind spouting your shit - has this last weekend taught you nothing? Obviously not it seems...people dont give a shit about your cause of any other cause of a terrorist organisation - we have moved on and you can stay in the dark ages if you like but realise that nobody else actually gives a flying fuck.
wat the fuck are you talking about my 'cause'. i have no desire to go back to the days of the 60/70/80's etc...were in my comment did i imply that i did. i simply stated what the aim of ira bombs were and that they did it for something more than a 'disagreement' and you say that no one gives a shit about the cause of a terrorist organisation? well the former leaders of that organisation are currently in goverment, so i dont think the got there by no one caring about them.....dick
To say the ira planted bombs to just destroy property is laughable were it not so serious..So lets see...the enniskillen bomb on 8/11/87..they killed innocent men and women attending a rememberence parade - they demolished an old hall with their bomb - yea that was really a target wasnt it!!...infact they admitted afterwards that they had been trying to kill the soldiers providing security for the parade...not that u would remember as u were only born in 89..get yer facts straight laddy.
dkr56 was wrong to say every bomb was only supposed to destroy property but the majority were either part of a financial war or designed to kill british forces loyalist paras and such
not that civilians werent also targeted kingsmill ect or that accidents didnt happen but the majority of attacks were strategic
How would that explain for example then, the device in the abercorn bar which not only killed innocent people but also took the legs off two sisters out shopping for a wedding dress? Or the device in the Droppin well bar which slaughered innocent people by bringing down the roof of the building on them, just to kill a handful of soldiers in the crowd? Wise up - people aren't stupid and know that the IRA were a pack of murdering scumbags.
although all civilian casualties were regrettable none of them would have happened had the brits not been there it was there presence that put people at risk the argument that the were sent there to protect nationalist is also pointless as nationalist would not have needed protection except they were in the british state
"all civilian casualties were regrettable" ! Your comment's are typical of a world which the vast majority of people in Northern Ireland and the republic of Ireland have left behind,You have offered no reasonable argument for my last questions and how lovely to see that you are keeping the old provo statements alive and well not that anyone cares. Finally I don't hear too many "nationalists" complain when they claim the governments cash every week in the dole queue.Money before loyalty eh?
yeah because if there is a united ireland loyalist will never take the dole that would make them lundies right and that money comes out of my tax as well british government dosnt seem to mind takin money of republicans but hey money before everythin fuckin else gotta fund that war in the middle east were how many civilians have been killed?
and you answered your own Question last time to kill a handful of soldiers
That money comes out of your tax because you are a British taxpayer - yes,you live in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland im glad you are starting to get on board.Secondly even the "republican leadership" have admitted that they will never see a united ireland in their generation or the next so I wouldn't worry about a situation where the Irish government is giving the people of Northern Ireland handouts - they can't look after their own economy as it is.
By bringing the subject of middle eastern politics into it you are avoiding the subject in hand, and you still have not provided any reasonable response to my argument mentioned earlier regarding the abercorn restaurant and the droppin well bar, infact whilst im at it how about the la-mon house hotel? ah yes they were real targets those people, out having a dinner dance, see this is why the ira are and always will be classed as terrorist murdering scum.
well abercorn should never have happened but to say about the droppin well it was a success eleven soldiers died and also the ira never did the droppin it was the inla and then we come to kingsmill was a response to the ruc/udr/uvf gang murdering catholics and dont say that protestants are innocent as i seem to remember the dup arming the uda and uvf and orange order members burning three kids in the beds because they couldnt march
The droppin well was a success was it? Tell that to the families of the 6 civillians killed in it.
Those murdered in Kingsmill were innocent men coming home from a hard days work which is something which the ira scum would'nt know was,and shooting innocent people who they didn't even know because "the other side shot some catholics" is wrong - you would think you'd be aware that tit for tat murders got the country nowhere fast for years upon years.
well they chose to go drinking with soldiers thats the price so did the protestant government not letting sdlp into government it could have been over in 1974 but ian didnt want to go into government with catholics
How do you know they chose to go drinking with soldiers? Do you know every single person in a bar in the middle of Belfast for example? No of course you don't and that is a typical excuse that is well worn out and dragged out over the course of the last 35 years.
So it could have been over in 1974 if sunningdale had worked? Well the good friday agreement has been working here since 1997 and still the scumbag terrorists carry on so your points are irrelevant im afraid.
well the club was close to the army base in derry and was used by soldiers as everyone knew thats why it was bombed as for the good friday agreement hasnt been working as unionists keep trying to pull it down the dup didnt want the good friday agreement and said they would NEVER talk to sinn fein why because they are bigots the protestants started the conflict the pira only formed in 1970 four years after uvf
what about the official IRA who were propagating many many "operations" against innocent protestant victims and security forces?? i never believed terrorists had any mindset other than to create carnage to the people they're meant to be fighting for. long live the udr and rir, faugh a ballagh.
none of the shankill butchers were udr members... there was no 'state terrorism'. although unfortunate, there were members of all organisations that were repeatedly disillusioned that they couldnt strike at the ira legally through the army or ruc, so they joined the terrorists. i think its a shame that the republican element have to spout verbal about udr members that had nothing other than thinking on their communities and brand them terrorists.
The UDR actions during the troubles are unforgivable the not only had members in both main Loyalist groups they also supplied weapons, uniforms & even UDR vehicles as was the case in the Miami show band massacre an attack carried with a particular vicious intent by shooting the lead singer so many times in the face after he was dead! The UDR were & always will be a disgrace but also a symbol of the unfair treatment of the Catholic people
I would never EVER condone the actions of Protestant gunmen against innocent catholics, nor that of the armed forces,I believe for example that bloody sunday was wrong and innocent people died.
However people have moved on from raking up the past here weather you like it or not,and with a username like the one you have it's evident that you are one of "yesterdays men" - If thats what you choose then fair enough but terrorism will never beat democracy as Mr Duffy is today finding out.
well your the person bringing up the past as you can see with all your comments and by the way kingsmill was a response for 87 catholic murders by domocracy as it was the armed forces who where in the gang also you state the droppin well was the ira it wasnt it was the inla
@eyleseo i ahte to say it but i dont think that many people have moved on. Twats like that guy are just as sick and twisted as they have ever been and theres a fari number of them about
Furthermore, have you ever heard of a day which occurred in 1972 called bloody friday? When the ira exploded around 20 bombs all over belfast in the space of a few hours, giving the security forces no time to defuse many of them and resulting in the deaths of innocent men and women who, coincidently were both catholic and protestant.
And on the subject of the omagh atrosity - tell the familys of the innocent people who died that "they didnt mean to kill anyone" its blatant lies.
A message to both sides of the divide: If crime fighters fight crime and fire fighters fight fire, what do freedom fighters fight? Let us both walk side by side into the light.
i was made to watch this while we were learning about the whole thing in school.Thankfully i never really grew up in it (im only 12). really powerful as were all the adds-got freaked out!
I grew up in Northern Ireland during the troubles! This advert was put on tele when I was 8 years old and I can honestly say this advert trumatised me more than anything that happened to me during the troubles (and my dad was almost shot, my mum used to have to go check her premises for bombs and two of my uncles saw bombs go off!!!!) I had nightmares about this bloody thing I swear! Kids watched this on television everynight - who in the name of god thought that was a good idea!!!!!!
Advert ever created documenting the trouble in north of Ireland. First screened in 1992 it delivered a powerful message. Everyone from my generation will remember this video!!! i'm 33 now
Ahh, all the musings of those that have read their history, not actually been there.
This video was not about apportioning blame, it shows that normal peace loving people (the majority of the Northern Irish populace) didn't have to put up with this crap on their streets. They were designed to be hard hitting ang memorable.
anyone have a link for the northern ireland cease fire videos "days like this" and "brown eyed girl"

The Catholics in the north were kept down by the loyalist community, had no rights and couldnt get a lot of jobs, treated like second class citizens,in much the same way black people were in America in the 50s and 60s...,doesnt matter if loyalist community wants to call themselves British or not,the rest of the world see's them as Irish Paddy's...,born in Ireland, have Irish accents...,great ad,violence was wrong on both sides of the community, especially when the innocent died
dhlfh 3 years ago

What has the ira given us? 30 plus years or murder destruction and mayhem dont try to make them out to be saints, they are far from it as are all paramilitaries.
eyleseo 3 years ago 4
well wait a sec, why have they killed people why was there war in ireland? yes because of the brits coming over thinking they can just kill of innocent people and take our land! the IRA were only doing what was right! and yes they have done things in the past that was no need for like the omagh bomb but even that wasnt the way it was planned they didnt mean to kill any1! i dnt agree with war but it cases like this it has to be done! people cnt just our land from us!
0xbecax0 3 years ago
lol they killed people because the didn't agree with them and/or their policies, most normal people when they have a disagreement don't murder each other and for you to say that murder is right somehow, makes me feel sorry for you.Of course they didn't mean to kill anyone with the omagh bomb or any others - yeah right and parking a car with a 500lb bomb in it is not going to harm anyone - get real.
eyleseo 3 years ago
the aim of every IRA bomb in the troubles was to cuase destruction of property.......and you make it out as if the IRA had a disagreement with somebody in a bar and decided to kill people......i think it was just a little more than a disagreement, maybe a fight for freedom.
dkr56 3 years ago
Oh fuck off dkr...people have had enough of your kind spouting your shit - has this last weekend taught you nothing? Obviously not it seems...people dont give a shit about your cause of any other cause of a terrorist organisation - we have moved on and you can stay in the dark ages if you like but realise that nobody else actually gives a flying fuck.
eyleseo 3 years ago 2
wat the fuck are you talking about my 'cause'. i have no desire to go back to the days of the 60/70/80's etc...were in my comment did i imply that i did. i simply stated what the aim of ira bombs were and that they did it for something more than a 'disagreement' and you say that no one gives a shit about the cause of a terrorist organisation? well the former leaders of that organisation are currently in goverment, so i dont think the got there by no one caring about them.....dick
dkr56 3 years ago
To say the ira planted bombs to just destroy property is laughable were it not so serious..So lets see...the enniskillen bomb on 8/11/87..they killed innocent men and women attending a rememberence parade - they demolished an old hall with their bomb - yea that was really a target wasnt it!!...infact they admitted afterwards that they had been trying to kill the soldiers providing security for the parade...not that u would remember as u were only born in 89..get yer facts straight laddy.
eyleseo 3 years ago
dkr56 was wrong to say every bomb was only supposed to destroy property but the majority were either part of a financial war or designed to kill british forces loyalist paras and such
not that civilians werent also targeted kingsmill ect or that accidents didnt happen but the majority of attacks were strategic
crumlin08 3 years ago 2
How would that explain for example then, the device in the abercorn bar which not only killed innocent people but also took the legs off two sisters out shopping for a wedding dress? Or the device in the Droppin well bar which slaughered innocent people by bringing down the roof of the building on them, just to kill a handful of soldiers in the crowd? Wise up - people aren't stupid and know that the IRA were a pack of murdering scumbags.
eyleseo 3 years ago
although all civilian casualties were regrettable none of them would have happened had the brits not been there it was there presence that put people at risk the argument that the were sent there to protect nationalist is also pointless as nationalist would not have needed protection except they were in the british state
crumlin08 3 years ago
"all civilian casualties were regrettable" ! Your comment's are typical of a world which the vast majority of people in Northern Ireland and the republic of Ireland have left behind,You have offered no reasonable argument for my last questions and how lovely to see that you are keeping the old provo statements alive and well not that anyone cares. Finally I don't hear too many "nationalists" complain when they claim the governments cash every week in the dole queue.Money before loyalty eh?
eyleseo 3 years ago
yeah because if there is a united ireland loyalist will never take the dole that would make them lundies right and that money comes out of my tax as well british government dosnt seem to mind takin money of republicans but hey money before everythin fuckin else gotta fund that war in the middle east were how many civilians have been killed?
and you answered your own Question last time to kill a handful of soldiers
crumlin08 3 years ago
That money comes out of your tax because you are a British taxpayer - yes,you live in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland im glad you are starting to get on board.Secondly even the "republican leadership" have admitted that they will never see a united ireland in their generation or the next so I wouldn't worry about a situation where the Irish government is giving the people of Northern Ireland handouts - they can't look after their own economy as it is.
eyleseo 3 years ago
By bringing the subject of middle eastern politics into it you are avoiding the subject in hand, and you still have not provided any reasonable response to my argument mentioned earlier regarding the abercorn restaurant and the droppin well bar, infact whilst im at it how about the la-mon house hotel? ah yes they were real targets those people, out having a dinner dance, see this is why the ira are and always will be classed as terrorist murdering scum.
eyleseo 3 years ago
well abercorn should never have happened but to say about the droppin well it was a success eleven soldiers died and also the ira never did the droppin it was the inla and then we come to kingsmill was a response to the ruc/udr/uvf gang murdering catholics and dont say that protestants are innocent as i seem to remember the dup arming the uda and uvf and orange order members burning three kids in the beds because they couldnt march
SNIPERATWORK100 2 years ago
The droppin well was a success was it? Tell that to the families of the 6 civillians killed in it.
Those murdered in Kingsmill were innocent men coming home from a hard days work which is something which the ira scum would'nt know was,and shooting innocent people who they didn't even know because "the other side shot some catholics" is wrong - you would think you'd be aware that tit for tat murders got the country nowhere fast for years upon years.
eyleseo 2 years ago 4
well they chose to go drinking with soldiers thats the price so did the protestant government not letting sdlp into government it could have been over in 1974 but ian didnt want to go into government with catholics
SNIPERATWORK100 2 years ago
How do you know they chose to go drinking with soldiers? Do you know every single person in a bar in the middle of Belfast for example? No of course you don't and that is a typical excuse that is well worn out and dragged out over the course of the last 35 years.
So it could have been over in 1974 if sunningdale had worked? Well the good friday agreement has been working here since 1997 and still the scumbag terrorists carry on so your points are irrelevant im afraid.
eyleseo 2 years ago
well the club was close to the army base in derry and was used by soldiers as everyone knew thats why it was bombed as for the good friday agreement hasnt been working as unionists keep trying to pull it down the dup didnt want the good friday agreement and said they would NEVER talk to sinn fein why because they are bigots the protestants started the conflict the pira only formed in 1970 four years after uvf
SNIPERATWORK100 2 years ago
what about the official IRA who were propagating many many "operations" against innocent protestant victims and security forces?? i never believed terrorists had any mindset other than to create carnage to the people they're meant to be fighting for. long live the udr and rir, faugh a ballagh.
jacko86ni 2 years ago
The UDR repeatedly colluded with the UDA and UVF. Several members of the shankill butchers were in the UDR.
There is such a thing as state terrorism and it is just as bad as any other type of terrorism.
TheTollundWoman 2 years ago
none of the shankill butchers were udr members... there was no 'state terrorism'. although unfortunate, there were members of all organisations that were repeatedly disillusioned that they couldnt strike at the ira legally through the army or ruc, so they joined the terrorists. i think its a shame that the republican element have to spout verbal about udr members that had nothing other than thinking on their communities and brand them terrorists.
jacko86ni 2 years ago
wise up u silly fucker
deee1979 2 years ago
The UDR actions during the troubles are unforgivable the not only had members in both main Loyalist groups they also supplied weapons, uniforms & even UDR vehicles as was the case in the Miami show band massacre an attack carried with a particular vicious intent by shooting the lead singer so many times in the face after he was dead! The UDR were & always will be a disgrace but also a symbol of the unfair treatment of the Catholic people

However people have moved on from raking up the past here weather you like it or not,and with a username like the one you have it's evident that you are one of "yesterdays men" - If thats what you choose then fair enough but terrorism will never beat democracy as Mr Duffy is today finding out.
eyleseo 2 years ago
well your the person bringing up the past as you can see with all your comments and by the way kingsmill was a response for 87 catholic murders by domocracy as it was the armed forces who where in the gang also you state the droppin well was the ira it wasnt it was the inla
