  • The image in the video isn't correct, the Ad-Lib had an OPL2, not 3. ;)

Still, this is a very awesome track.

  • I know. I picked the AdLib because this song only uses the OPL2 portion of the chip. It was composed by Vandernurd Music, I can't even begin to sound even remotely this good if I tried. :P

  • When in 4 operator mode the OPL3 only has 6 FM channels btw.

  • @Atomicskull Actually, when it's in 4-operator mode, it has a maximum of 6 four-operator channels, with the remainder being either all two-operator or a mixture of two-operator melody and single-operator percussion (rhythm mode enabled.) Kind of an odd configuration, but interesting.

  • @OBSysteme I am kinda curious about this myself. I would assume that, as long as said OPL3 chip is a real YMF262 made by Yamaha and not a clone, it should still sound reasonably (or at the least acceptably) close to the OPL2.

  • @Eep386 Correction, I later learned that there are indeed very subtle differences between OPL2 and OPL3's respective sections. The OPL2's envelope generator is slightly buggier, and OPL3 lacks the almost never-used CSM mode.

  • @OBSysteme Actually it is using just the OPL2 portion of the OPL3 FM chip for this song.
