Reggae actually was influenced by American rythmn'n'blues and music from West Africa (where most 'Jamaicans' orginally came from, being brought there for slavery. The first inhabitants were the Arawaks) and parts of Europe. Yes there are Rastafari influences but there are also different forums of reggae that do not involve it at all.
