stand your memory sticks and daughter cards and "slocket"-style processors up in a casserole dish. Add and fingers you've snapped off. Now having secured a litre or two of ferric chloride we pour this liquid into the casserole dish. FeCl2 demonstrates great solubility for copper. The gold is actually plated onto copper. If we dissolve the copper out from underneath the gold - we're left with high purity gold foil. Investigate this online. Ferric plus gold fingers should be adequate. GdLk
wear a glove and hold onto the processor now crack along the bottom edge with square-nosed lineman pliers or channel-locks. Don't try cutting the board - way too arduous. Just crick crack along the length of the fingers and then snap it off in more or less one contiguous piece .. works fine. Ixnay on the cutay.
@ArcadeGames So would I. Pentium II CPU's also do not have the built in hardware of a Pentium3 which flags visited locations across the internet. Just a cool little fact about pentium II's which makes them kind of cool, although the uses for this are obscureand so not something I'd be prioritising. A 350mhz Pentium2 with a 100MHz FSB is quite a fast machine for basic OS usage or servers too. Electricity consumption isn't so great although pico PSU's help. :)
You are Kidding right? The fingers have gold but SO DOES THE CPU!! All the internal wires are 24K solid gold.. they are small but the processors buy these as well.
How many of these would you have to recycle to actually make any money? I mean, with .0063 grams per processor, you're going to be at it for a long time before it's worth it, I would think. Or am I wrong?
@lifeandtruthchurch i googled "gold calculator" and learned that .0063 grams of gold is worth a dime. granted, the source of information might be worth less than the processor, but it wasn't worth my time to keep looking. have you ever seen the "gold recovery material" auctions on eBay? that smells like a total scam....
Nice, Thanks!
