Even better I imagine would be a system where the cars hang from the tracks similar to an aerial railway. The right hinge element would enable compensation for centrifugal forces in curves at different travelling speeds. Also the carriers could be used as throttled e-cars on regular streets which would only be latched into the railway at stations, so the whole drive could take place without transfer from door to door. Those cars could be then owned personally, too.
We looked at this concept at Taxi2000. We chose above-track due to cost and safety factors. The system as you describe it would cost several million dollars more per mile both because of the additional technology required and the additional materials required. Further, the ability of individuals to hook up and unhook their vehicles correctly adds a danger to the system that we find unacceptable. Still, it was an idea worth considering.
I have followed this idea for several years now. As a visually impaired individual - I would love such a system in my town, but I wonder; has anyone/city bought into this yet?
IT a good video, but there needs to be a Test Track in a city or a place. I would want to see it. I would ride it. What does the weather do to the track? Are you talking to cities in the US? Are people looking at this more?
