Good news! The State of South Carolina took away the I-526 extension project away from Charleston County where a small minority has been very vocally opposed to it. It looks like it will be built now with construction starting sometime in 2013.
I love that town. Never drove SC 30, though. I live in the Denver metro area. Maybe I could get I-70 coming down out of the mountains into Denver; I could use some tips, though.
That city looks so laid-back. I always love those elevated marshland highways. I-10 in Louisiana has a lot of stretches like that, if I recall. Same with the area around Mobile, AL. Nice work!
@Freewayjim Yeah.... construction budgets are tight in all the states right now so not much is getting done. Speaking of construction... I was on the Orange Line Metro this morning and saw what looks like VDOT doing some lane widening on I-66 inside the beltway in the Falls Church/Arlington area. Will be nice to have more capacity on that cramped stretch of highway.
All these "freeway people" here--I'm just a lowly Moody Blues fan and don't know much about freeway videos. But that was quite a "trip." Wish traffic would always flow along like that in real life. Enjoyed your video!!
That's a pretty neat lil' stretch of freeway. Funny how the marshlands are literally right next to heavily forested area. I definitely enjoyed watching this.

Whenever I drive over that bridge, I always call it the Connector.
Even on the local news, no one ever addresses it by its official name "James Island Expressway."

Nice mini-tour. I like how smooth and new looking that concrete is.

@Bryant5493 -Thanks, for the most part it is, but near the end as you go under the bridge the transitions from Concrete to Asphalt are very rough.

I have a relative down here and this reminds me of her, the ocean and sunnier days!

@VaFreeways -I like those highways too, can't wait to see what the missing 7 miles of this road might look like....someday.

Great video Jim, I wasn't expecting a SC-30 video. I thought you'd film US-17 in Charleston, including the Ravenel Bridge.

@FreewayAndrew Oh, there's more coming.
